.net - Why Not Have OnXXX Event Raiser Methods Return A Value

Jun 2, 2009

Say you have an event raiser method (OnXXX) that raises an event using the CancelEventArgs class is there anything wrong with having the OnXXX method return the value of e.Cancel?

For example:

Public Sub ProcessFiles(folder as DirectoryInfo)
For each file in folder.GetFiles()
If OnProcessingFile(New FileEventArgs(file)) Then
.....ProcessFileCode

[code]....

Purpose Of Using Shared Methods That Return An Instance Of A Class?

Oct 11, 2010

What is the purpose of using shared methods that return an instance of a class, as opposed to a constructor?

ie: in VB.net, the system.drawing.color class has shared method "FromArgb(int, int, int) as color". This is different from java's implementation which simply is a constructor that takes three ints. Why the decision to do one or the other?

Executing Different Methods On Button Click Event?

Aug 2, 2010

I have created a class, in which button control is created programatically. The click event is added using "Add Handler". Now I create an instance of this class whenever I want to create a new button. The problem with this design is that in the ButtonClickedevent I have to write swtich cases to provide different implementations as per requirementI don't want to perform this functionality in this class. Is there any way in which when I click on this button the method from other class gets executed? may be inheritance,

Visual Studio Shortcut To Auto-Add Event Delegate Methods

Serial Port Event Does Not Return To The Interrupted Subroutine?

Sep 30, 2010

I am running a Windows Form application, in a button called subroutine is controlling a series of events in a with a timer with 500ms ticks. There is an IO port that will send information asynchronously about another set of events that need servicing from an external device. I want to deal with the event from the IO port and return to the original subroutine, but it appears the once I complete the delegate subroutine called by the IO event, the program does not return to the subroutine that was running. Do I need to resort to polling or is there another solution through threading?

Making Class Methods Instead Of Instance Methods In .NET?

Mar 29, 2010

I am not sure how clear my question is by the title, but I am trying to make Class methods instead of Instance methods in Visual Basic that way I don't have to waste memory and code creating temporary objects to execute methods that don't need instance variables.

I am not sure if you can do that in VB but I know you can in Objective-C by using either a "+" or "-" sign in front of the method declaration. And in C++ (at least I think, I can't remember) you put the static keyword or const keyword in front of the function. How would I do this in VB if it is possible? Or should I just make a separate set of functions that are not members of a class?

Return An Object As The Return Value Through A RealProxy Transparent Proxy?

Oct 7, 2010

I'm working up a system where I plan on using RealProxy objects to enable intercepting method calls against a set of objects, handling the call, and then returning appropriate results. This works just find for simple return types like strings or ints, but I can't seem to return objects from the RealProxy.Invoke method. Everything works. I get no errors, but the returned value is always NOTHING, instead of an object.

I've worked up the smallest sample code I could, and have included it below. Essentially, just call RPtest and single step through. The code creates a simple object, RPTestA, with a string field and an object valued field It then retrieves the string

The background color does not change to green. Why?

Override An Event - TextChanged Event Not To Be Triggered When The CellClick Event Occurs?

Jul 20, 2010

I'm trying to validate a few things in a form I'm building. It has a datagrid with clients info (taken from an access database) and a few textboxes where the user can type some search criteria. The thing is that those same textboxes are used to add new clients to the database and to modify a client's information if one from the datagrid is selected, so I made it that the buttons to insert and modify clients are disabled on load and thenevery time the text on a textbox changes ("TextChanged" event) they become enabled. So far so good. But then I wanted to make it so when a client from the datagrid is selected both buttons become disabled again until the text on a textbox changes (to make sure they're adding a different client and not the same one that was
selected).

I tried using the CellClick event from the datagrid to disable the buttons, but since every time a client is selected from the datagrid the info is shown on the textboxes, this triggers the TextChanged event too, and the buttons become available. So, is there a way I can tell the TextChanged event not to be triggered when the CellClick event occurs?

C# - Using Async Methods Asp.net?

Jul 15, 2010

I have two methods on the page. One AddMessageToInboxOutbox(params[]) and other one SendNewMessageMail(params[]).

Once user sends an message to other other first message is added to DB and then sent to recipient's email. Sometimes SMTP is heavy loaded and it takes up to 5 seconds to get answer from it. I want to enclose SendNewMessageMail(params[]) with async call using other thread or something. I have never done that.

How do i perform this action right in ASP.NET?

Extended Methods To A DLL?

Feb 27, 2012

I created a couple of extended methods in a VB.NET module. I put them inside a Class, built it and got the DLL. From another program I made a reference to that DLL and imported it using Imports as well. The extended methods appear in IntelliSense and it works but a warning appears in the Error console saying,Could not resolve this reference. Could not locate the assembly "nK0deExtendedMethods". Check to make sure the assembly exists on disk. why this error occurs even though I have referenced the DLL?

This is the Class where I've put my module with the extended method.

Imports System.Runtime.CompilerServices
Imports System.Drawing
Namespace nK0deExtendedMethods

[code]....

And I'm having another doubt. In the Imports statement, I have to mention the DLL's name along with the Namespace name. Like this,

Imports ExtendedMethods.nK0deExtendedMethods

Normally you only have to import the Namespace's name, right?
