We build a class (i.e. Server) and create a LOAD method that loads a dataset with all the details of that object.We need all that information sometimes... but what about when we only need one piece of data from that object (i.e. webserviceUrl).Should we build classes with a bunch of scalar methods that get back single pieces of data as opposed to only getting ALL the data and then only taking what we need?It's a waste to get all the data when we dont always need all of it but it also will take longer to write the extra methods..
View 2 RepliesI am having trouble doing something that is probably pretty simple!I have a stock listing that is done by 1) a simple form with parameters (Index) and 2) an ajax called partial view that displays the list of stock (based on the params).On this same simple form (Index) I have an action link to an "Add Stock" method which calls another form for adding stock.When the user has finished adding the stock I redirect them back to the stock list page (Index).
My issue is that I would like to "remember" the parameters that were initially entered in this form so the user isn't just directed back to a page with blank parameters forcing them to enter them again.I thought I could simply overload the Index method as such:
[Code]...
I get this error: The current request for action 'Index' on controller type 'StockController' is ambiguous between the following action methods:.Now I have read this post and it's answer but I cannot figure out how to implement the solution. Is this solution applicable in my situation? Is there a better way to acheive what I'm trying to do?
I read somewhere that older VB .net (pre VB .NET 2005?) couldn't use overloaded operators in a C# class. Is it true for overloaded cast operators?Either way do you guys think it's a disadvantage for a C# class library not to include them and arithmetic methods as actual methods for other languages, like:
ToDouble
ToFloat
FromDouble
Add

How can I provide an error message if the user does not provide a value in my textbox. I found this example, but it doesn't work in my
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e_
As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If TextBox1.Text = "" Then
[code]....
It says that Error Provider1 is not declared. How do I do this the right way?
I'm validating entities in EF4.1 with the On[Property]Changing partial methods in a VS2010 Winforms project. Example: OnJobNumberChanging(value As String) I throw an ArgumentException in them if 'value' violates a rule. When editing in a DataGridView which is bound to the results of an ObjectQuery, user clears the text in a cell bound to a property which is not nullable and tabs out. Code enters the partial method, exception is thrown.

Where then do I catch this exception? I am unable to find the correct event. Exception message is, "ArgumentException was unhandled by user code".
I have many similar calls to database and they work fine
Using ta As New QT_SSTEntities
Return ta.Product.
Select(Function(c) New RadComboBoxData() With {.Text = c.FieldName1, .Value = c.FieldName1}).

I came across a DbParameterCollection object, which should have an "Item" property inherited from IList, but IntelliSense does not show this object has the Item property.
View 2 RepliesI have a WinForms DataGridView control on a form. There are two fields in this DataGridControl:
Email Address
Resolved Email Address (calculated based on the input in Email Address)
After the user inputs or changes a value in Email Address, I want the value in Resolved Email Address to update based on a separate method. What event should I tie in to so that that the Resolved Email Address cell is updated after the Email Address cell is updated?I'm not sure where to put the event because the user could do a number of things after adding/changing a value: tab to the next cell, click cancel on the form, click ok on the form, etc.
this is my first time making an application so I would like to make a Login form in VB. I haven't gotten into any problems so far but my question to you are the following1) Is it possible for me to make an event/action that will allow it to work with the script that is php? IE: Application has a button that will scan all files in /public_html for viruses, when the button is clicked, it will send the event to cPanel and make it scan all files.2) Once the user has connected and all information has been verified make another window show and the new application will be the new window.Another question I have isRight now I'm using WHMCS(url..) for my billing system they have an intergtation code that I use for my web page and it goes like this
<form method="post" action="http://www.orionconn.com/clients/dologin.php?goto=clientarea"> Email Address: <input type="text" name="username" size="50"><br> Password: <input type="password" name="password" size="20"><br> <input type="submit" value="Login"> </form>
Normally I raise an event like this:
RaiseEvent PropertyChanged(Me, New PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName))
at some points, I need to call the same method on those controls (ex. user presses the clear button on the big control, I want to call the clear f(x) on each of the controls)I thought to toss the controls in a collection, and then be able to handle them something like this:
nextturns out, and I should have realized, methods and properties of controls are not exposed when treated this way. The only thing that can be seen is the stuff that the base class (control, I guess) has.
I wanted to know if anyone could tell me how to access the Click_event.I have a boarderles form with a panel control which has the Dock property set to fill and on the panel I have placed a Label also with the Dock property set to fill. I also have a timer running.How can I get code to execute in the Label1 click event.I've tried doing it by using the generic Click_event and also with two variations of the Click_event Handles parameters
'Alternativ 1:
Private Sub Form1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Label1.Click

If I have the following ListView, how can I attach a SelectedIndexChanged event listener to the DropDownList so I can perform a command on the respective object? Imagine I have a list of new users and I want to add them to a usergroup by selecting the group from the DropDownList.
<asp:ListView ID="NewUsers" runat="server" DataSourceID="NewUsersSDS" DataKeyNames="ID">

I just want to know the unique ID, Class names and other Properties of controls used in .NET framework.
View 3 RepliesSay you have an event raiser method (OnXXX) that raises an event using the CancelEventArgs class is there anything wrong with having the OnXXX method return the value of e.Cancel?
For example:
Public Sub ProcessFiles(folder as DirectoryInfo)
For each file in folder.GetFiles()
If OnProcessingFile(New FileEventArgs(file)) Then
.....ProcessFileCode
[code]....
I have created a class, in which button control is created programatically. The click event is added using "Add Handler". Now I create an instance of this class whenever I want to create a new button. The problem with this design is that in the ButtonClickedevent I have to write swtich cases to provide different implementations as per requirementI don't want to perform this functionality in this class. Is there any way in which when I click on this button the method from other class gets executed? may be inheritance,
View 4 RepliesI have a question in regards to the usability of panel controls (2.0 frameworks). I have a change request that I'm currently working on where the end user wants to see the data in a different format. Currently the data is only being returned in a weekly format, and now they want the data to also be returned in a hourly format as well.
The data is being displayed in a series of labels (child controls) that are tied to a single panel (parent control.) I would like to set the user up with a checkbox that they can use toggle the way that the data is displayed (weekly & hourly), but I would also like to use the same single panel control to display both views (weekly/ hourly). Is there an object associated with the panel control that will allow me to do this? If not then what would be the best approach for this change.
Below I create an array of labels. I would like to add an click event to my labels. Can someone point me in a direction?

a datacontext defined in a module(domain services ado.net ria)a page having add/delete methods whenever any method is executed, it is found that all the previous actions (NEW RECORD ADDITION and DELETION OF RECORDS) are carried out before the new action is carried out normally
this behaviour is not prominent but "when using break points and inspecting the values of the variables and table object to be added to context, it is clear that all the previous actions take place again. even when the datacotext. savechanges is called, even after that still all actions carried out on the datacontext repeat themseleves, when any new action is to be carried out
In C# adding event handler methods is very easy. You just type "object.event +=" and then press tab twice. Is there anything like this for VB projects? Note: This is for dynamically created controls or controls that are not declared WithEvents.

Does anyone has an idea what i should change to let it work and let my UserRepository use the methods in RepositoryBase while implementing the IUserRepository?
I am new to VB.NET, Now i'm working with Events in VB.NET, I have two event methods, Mouse Click and Mouse Down for a single button in a form, I have displyed a message in each of these methods but only mouse down event is triggered. Why Mouse Click is not triggered? Similiarly I Did the same for Mouse Enter and Mouse Move for a particular button, in this case both the events are triggered.
View 2 Repliesi am asking that can i use c# language to implement "actions" fired on "click side events" such as mouse over the reason for this stupid question is that i remember some syntax of registering functions for particular events of formview, which are call when the event occurs (yes there ispostback involved" is something like the above possible for client side events using c# or even vb.net
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Label3.Text = "this is label three";

I am working with a vb program, but there is something strange on one of my .vb code pagewhen i put the "dot" afther the object name its dont show the methods availables for this objectbut on other vb code pages i can see it. but in this one no.for exmaplethis is a piece of code: Dim sb As New StringBuilder()
View 3 RepliesI am not sure how clear my question is by the title, but I am trying to make Class methods instead of Instance methods in Visual Basic that way I don't have to waste memory and code creating temporary objects to execute methods that don't need instance variables.
I am not sure if you can do that in VB but I know you can in Objective-C by using either a "+" or "-" sign in front of the method declaration. And in C++ (at least I think, I can't remember) you put the static keyword or const keyword in front of the function.How would I do this in VB if it is possible? Or should I just make a separate set of functions that are not members of a class?
I wanted the same event to happen from using two different controls, a print button click event and a menu item print event. I put the code for printing in the printButton click event and added the additional event to the handles clause. I'm getting the error under the added event PrintToolStripMenuItem that a "Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types".[code]...

View 5 RepliesIs it possible to set up a common event handler for a group of like controls like buttons or text boxes so a single event handler is called regardless of which of the controls is clicked, changed, etc.In my PrinterDialog study project I have 5 text boxes named TB1, TB2, TB3, TB4 and TB5 in a text box array called TBs so they can be accessed with TBs(0), TBs(1), etc.My question is if I can set up a single click event that responds when any of the 5 text boxes are clicked to avoid duplicate code n 5 different click events.
