.net - Avoiding Overlapped Bookings In Booking System Application?

If a booking is present in database on 12/27/2011 at 5:00 pm for 2 hours and i try to make a new booking on 12/27/2011 between 5 to 7 pm then my code generates an error message. Even if i try to book at 4:00 pm for 2 hours it generates an error message as the 2nd hour will be overlapped here with already made booking from 5:00 to 7:00.
Now here comes the problem part. When day changes it doesn't generate error message i.e. IF a booking is there on 12/27/2011 at 11:00 pm for 3 hours then it should not allow new booking till 12/28/2011 2:00 am but when i try to book 12/28/2011 at 1:00 am it saves it in the database and doesn't generate an error message. I want an error message generated in such a case.
I am using two separate fields in database one for time and one for date. Both of them have DateTime datatype.
newtime refers to time on which i'm trying to make new booking addednewtime refers to time after adding the duration to time on which i'm trying to make new booking

I have created a hotel booking system programme. However, I am puzzled as to how when the booking button is clicked it can search a database and find the best suited room (RoomType) and make sure that it is available (Date of Departure < system.date).
This data is held in two tables (Access):
Booking:
BookingID (Primary Key)
CustomerID (Foreign Key, Table:Customer)
Date of Arrival (Date)
Date of Departure (Date)
RoomID (Foreign Key,Table:Room) Room:
RoomID (Primary Key)
RoomType (Text)
RoomPrice (Currency)
Floor (Number)
This has all got to be done within a single button click. Any ideas as to how I can place this into my vb code?
I have a rough query for picking a room that is best suited:

SELECT roomID
FROM Room INNER JOIN Booking ON Room.RoomID = Booking.RoomID
WHERE Room.[Room Type] LIKE '" & Room_TypeTextbox.Text & "'"
AND Booking.[Date of Departure] < Now()
I have been trying for a while to get it to select a single matching record as there is a high chance that this query will return multiple records but im unsure on how to deal with that.

I am trying to put together a booking system. I have managed to program rates, discounts etc., and am now onto calculating the nights for the stay. On my form I have two datetimepickers, and a button. The code I have entered is: (I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express)

This works well when getting how many nights between two dates in the same month, but if I enter say 30th August to 2th September, I get a -28. Is there a way to get the number of nights booked between two different months?

I want to develop a system for booking cars for example. Suppose that one customer wants to book a car and this is the last one.Another customer searches with the same criteria and is finding this car too. How I am able to stay away of this situation?I don't know if I explained well... Imagine when you book tickets. How they can 'lock' the last ticket (or maybe the one that someone is viewing it) and make it unavailable to customers that have browse the site after?I use C# and it's about a very simple web service.

I am making a vb.net client application that works with a php based website where users can reserve a pc for themselves at a certain day and a certain time. I have made the application in such a way that upon logon, it queries the database and finds the person who booked pc at this time and compares the username to the person logged on. If it matches a welcome screen is showed with additional options. Else a window is shown which says "This PC is already booked. You will be logged of in 10 seconds".
The problem i am facing is, i have coded the close button to logoff since i dont want user to bypass this part, but yesterday i saw that if i close the app directly from taskbar (processes) it just closes.without logging him off.How can we code or is there anything we can do that, even if he closes the application through task bar there is still an instant log off?

how to work multiple bookings into my program. At the minute i have two calendars, one visible (Start date) and one invisible, wich the user can make visible if a repeat booking is required (End date).
How would i work a repeat booking into my SQL Statement, as i only have one BookDate field and one BookDate parameter.

I have a basic calendar schedule i want to loop through and then do some checks. My first data reader works fine. But as soon as i put in the second data reader it does not finish.Here is my code

Basically the above code looks up distinct calendar entries in the database.i then loop through the entries and put the items in a list view.The code above will list about 1600 rows.in the above code if i uncomment the 2 lines the system will break It will on display one line of code. What im trying to do in the second query is to see if there are double bookings in the database.

I'm using a CheckGroup in a project found here. There were several things in the code that needed fixing to really be useful to me:The fact that the panel in the regular groupbox overlapped the checkbox control so that the bottom of some letters were being cut off. When changing the back color of the groupbox, it didn't change the back color of the checkbox. Fixing these two problems was easy, but fixing the second one led to a new problem. When changing the backcolor of the groupbox to Transparent, it also changes the backcolor of the checkbox to Transparent, thus displaying the text for both the checkbox and the groupbox's header.

I'm attempting to communicate via USB to a hardware device. So far I can use CreateFile, ReadFile and WriteFile to communicate with the device efficiently, but occasionally the WriteFile call will hang because there is no device located at the port where it was installed. I have the WriteFile and ReadFile calls in a managed thread that I use the Join() method on to return control to the parent thread.

I am using Visual Basic 2010, I have Created A DataSet Called "GaryTPHDB. and from that, I have created A form Called "Booking Form" , And I have also created a "Daily Jobs Form" And on this DailyJobsForm there is a DataGridView1, and at the begining of the row I have inserted a button called "View Job" and when I click this Button I want to View the whole job in the Booking Form so a user can edit the booking.
And at the end of the DataGridView1 Row, I Have inserted Another Button called "Allocate" There Is also a ComboBox. that a user can select a driver and when a driver is selected. I want the user to click the Allocate Button to update the dataset/Database with the selected driver. then remove the row from the DataGridView1. the DataGridView1 should be refreshed each time a row is remove.

and now the problem is, its not working , its all going through ok and im not getting any run time errors. But the booking details arent being shown in the main menu screen.

I have a customer and booking data sets on my form. customer id is a foreign key in booking table .but when i click delete button. it gives me an error: The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "FK_Booking_Customer". The conflict occurred in database "photoshoot", table "dbo.Booking", column 'Cust_id'. The statement has been terminated. Its a one to many relation between customer and booking. one customer can make many bookings each booking will belong to only 1 customer.

I have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.

The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?

Im adding listviewitems and want to avoid duplication. Now currently, I have resorted to looping through the listview and comparing each items text property against what Im adding. But for a big table this is very slow. The ListView has a .Contains Method but this does not seem to do what I would have assumed; for example [code]Is there a way of doing this so I dont have to loop through all the items?

I'm working on a new DAL for my latest project. As the performance is essential I'm avoiding late binding/reflection as much as possible. One central part is the DAL function for populating Business Objects.One class is called in order to connect to the database with the given SQL (stored procedures can't be used in this environment) and the given Business Object or List is populated. As different Business Object types will be populated by the same function I made an Interface that all of the Business Objects implements with the Sub called "Fill". The question is - will reflection be used in this scenario? My thought was as I'm "describing" the objects trought the interface the compiler doesn't need to use Reflection.

I'm writing the following bits of code for a SaveFile Dialog box in Visual Basic 2010.NET. The code works well as the XLSX file is created and opens in Microsoft Excel. However, the problem that I am having is that if the program overwrites a file, the user is getting two prompts. One prompt is from the program's own SaveFile dialog confirming the choice. The other is from Microsoft Excel asking you the same. It's as if the program is running in the background.[code]

One feature of C# compiler is that namespace declaration by default follows the folder name structure in the project. By e.g. you have MyProject1MyDrawing and inside you create a class MyPoint the namespace for MyPoint will be MyProject1.MyDrawing
In VB I cant see any namespace declaration(apparently it implicitly 'inherits' the project(MyProject1) namespace). If I create a MyPoint and MyLine clases in the MyDrawing folder I need to surround each of created classes with "Namespace MyProject1.MyDrawing"..."End Namespace".
Is it possible to automatically name the namespaces like in C# by the folder name?

I have an MS Access database and an MS Visual Basic 2008 front end.I get this error when trying to update a record that has related records:The record cannot be deleted or changed because table 'X' includes related records.I only want to update one field in the row in the 'parent' table which is not the primary key field of either record but the 'Update' command seems to want to rewrite the whole datarow. Rewriting the whole row causes the error (as this updates the primary key). If I switch off refrential integrity checking in the underlying database this solves the problem except that I want to maintain referential integrity so its not really a solution. I have tried beginEdit and EndEdit with no success - same error.Is there a way to update just one field in a row and write that back to the database?

I've seen a good bit written on avoiding updating a form from a thread.However,I was wondering if that was a problem if the thread exists in an object that programatically builds the form?Thus the form and associated logic exist within the same "thread space." Seems on the face of it like it would work since everything in the form should be in a single dispatch queue.
