View 4 RepliesI'm trying to lern VS 2010 from VB 6 and one of the things i'm hawing a problem whid is control array.In vb 6 if you create a text box it's named "Text1" and if you yust copy it and paste it it renames to "Text1(0)" and the new one's name is "Text1(0)" and the code would lock like this

The only thing I can do for now is either use the substring function to remove the first character from all array values after 0 but I don't like that because it's messy and what if the split "works" as I want it to one one of the lines and knocks of the first character when I don't want it to.
I currently have a graphics object g where I am drawing lines and ellipses on with the command

the text is long (say 100 chars);
the textbox can display about 20 chars.
The following code:

selects a part of the text and sets the cursor (blinking beam) at the and of the selection, in this case the first caracters of the selected text is out of the user sight because the textbox is too small to display the entire selection.
Is it possible to force the cursor to be at the beginning of the selection so the first part of the text is visible? (as if I had selected my text with the mouse dragging from the end back towards the beginning)
I am creating a Map Rotation Randomizer for my Call of Duty clan, and I am having an issue with understanding how to randomize the text from the list and placing it into another textbox.
Here's what it looks like right now:
All textboxes are multi-line.
When I click a button for a game (CoD4, MW2, WaW), it places the map list into the left textbox like:
mp_bloc
mp_broadcast
mp_crossfire
etc.
When I click the button with ">>>", I want it to randomize that list and place it into the right textbox like:
map mp_bloc map mp_broadcast map mp_crossfire
Or if I click it again:
map mp_crossfire map mp_bloc map mp_broadcast
And so on. I think I need to create an array, but I've never worked with those before as I'm still new to learning programming. I'm not even sure what controls I need to put on the form for that, if it even requires any.
I am having problems with creating this change problem. The idea is that the user puts the amount of money in the textbox and then in separate textboxes shows Dollars, Quarters, Dimes, Nickles and Pennies.
Example:
You Money: 12.54
Dollars: 12
Quarters: 2
Dimes: 0
Nickles: 0

In a program I'm working on, I want a "Loading..." dialog to close when it can't log in to a site using the username and password provided by the user. Basically, I have the code set up right because the function it is supposed to carry out when that occurs does work, but for some reason it ends up in some really weird stuff happening. In the Loading form, I have it set to do "Form1.Show()" and then "Me.Close()", assuming it would simply show the login form and then close the Loading form. However, when this happens, the Loading form closes, and then for only an instant Form1 shows, and then the Loading form shows and Form1 closes. This happens forever until I stop the debugging, and I can't seem to figure out why. Am I using the wrong method? What exactly does Me.Close() do anyways? All I want to do is close the form and open another

I am trying to port a program I wrote with old VB 1 and I have many control arrays in the program, and it was so easy to do this in older versions of VB, now I am trying to find how to do this and all the answers I have found are a major productions, to replace something that was so easy to do? I would think that microsoft would make programming easer with each new incarnation. instead they are making it harder. doing away with the DATA and READ statement, now it is much harder to fill an array with a loop, now you have to enter each item in an array ONE by ONE. they did away with the ON statement, I had several ON statements, I had to make complex Select case constructs. to replace a simple one word statement?
To make an array of controls in OldVB all you had to do is Name a Second control the Same as the First, and a dialog pops up and ask if you want to make an array, you click Yes, and that's it, what could be easier than this?

It works as I wanted it to but my problem is when a user puts in anything but a number into the text box it gives an error, I want a message to pop up and let them know that a numbers needs to be entered not a text.

I have a textbox1 on form1 with a click evet that says textbox1.text= form2.txt(1).text but it gives an error (txt is not a member of form2). I tried disabling option explicit, option strick and option infer. Still won't work. My code is to long for this place maybe a short version osf the code. Do I need to make a Public MyArray(15,15,15,15) as string, in the Module1 then copy txt(n).text to the array or is there a way to access txt(n).

Windows Forms, VB application... Forgive me in advance for this very elementary question but I am overlooking something really simple here. I would like to have a label show the current value of a variable as the for each loop runs.. I created a very simple Button Click event to figure out where its failing. As it is right now the value does not display until after the for each loop finishes running, which it should actually display the counter value each time it runs through... I am writing an app to be a single button failover of a set of mirrored SQL servers. The app has to handle several other functions (enable/disable and start/stop of services, writing to local registry, copying files from server A to server B, initiating stored procedures, etc.)I have a collection of labels that indicate the status of 4 services on 2 servers, I wrote a function to check the services when passed the machine name, and the service name. Originally I just called the function 8 times (4 services, 2 machines) and populated the labels 'manually'. I have all of this within a timer so that the service status is refreshed every couple seconds. Id like to clean up the code to a single for/next loop that operates on 2 arrays (an array of service names, and an array of labels) such as:

The only reason I want the control array is to be able to use the .Text and .BackColor properties of the labels in the loop. If I make an array of strings with the label names it doesnt seem to pick that up.
