API Feed - StreamReader Files Get Cut Off At End

Mar 2, 2011

I am reading data from an API feed and saving the chunks into files. When the files reach 2 MB I start a new file and write to that file. What happens now is that an entry (

) can get cut off at the end of a file and continues into the new file. I try and reconstruct the files by taking the last entry and combining it with the first entry of the next file but this is tedious handling the data transmission and file creation.

Do
timestamp = DateTime.Now
numbytesread = responseStream.Read(bufferread, 0, BUFFER_SIZE)
If numbytesread > 123 Then
'timestamp = DateTime.Now
responseData = Encoding.UTF8.GetString
[Code] .....

Reading Data From API Feed And Saving Into Files

Mar 17, 2011

I am reading data from an API feed and saving the chunks into files. When the files reach 10 MB I start a new file and write to that file. What happens now is that an entry (

) can get cut off at the end of a file and continues into the new file. I try and reconstruct the files by taking the last entry and combining it with the first entry of the next file but this is tedious and was wondering for better suggestion on handling the data transmission and file creation.

The data stream is of variable sizes and where one request can return 60 MB of data the next can be as little as 2MB. I know the data stream will end with a token
but my problem is the cut off data in between. I guess I could just make the max size really large and then hope the data is never more than that but then I have to work with large text files and reading in and parsing would be a problem.

timestamp = DateTime.Now
numbytesread = responseStream.Read(bufferread, 0, BUFFER_SIZE)
If numbytesread > 123 Then
'timestamp = DateTime.Now
responseData = Encoding.UTF8.GetString

Publishing Vb Application With StreamReader/StreamWriter .txt Files

Mar 4, 2012

In my code I've allowed used to create their own mazes and save them, under whatever name they like. I've also included a few pre-created mazes. The mazes themselves are saves in .txt files in the bin/debug folder of the project, along with a .txt file containing the maze names.

I really need to publish this program to send it to my teacher, but when I publish it it doesn't include any of the .txt files in my bin/debug folder.

Feed Reader - Compare The Feed To The Database And Only Load New Items Into The Database

Nov 8, 2011

I am trying to figure something out. I have an application in which I am adding the ability to consume a feed. I have no problem with the feed itself, but my problem is how can I mark certain items as 'read'? The only thing I can thing of is to read the feed into a database. In this database, I add a column for 'read' which I update when the user has read the article. Then each time I retrieve the feed, I compare the feed to the database and only load new items into the database.

Streamreader Limits - The Streamreader Works Fine Until The File Is More Than 100,000 Bytes Long?

Apr 19, 2011

I have a problem with a streamreader in visual basic 2008.I am updating a database from text files on an ftp server. The streamreader works fine until the file is more than 100,000 bytes long.It reads until it reaches this point and then just ends. No error message, it just reads to this point which happens to be 2 fields out of 6 in the database stream. My question is - does the streamreader have a limit? And if so what is a workaround?

Dim connString As String = "Data Source=" & pDataBase
conn = New SqlCeConnection(connString)
Dim strQuery As String = ""[code]......

StreamReader/Writer - Loads An Entire Text File Into A Streamreader Variable

Jul 9, 2009

I'm writing a program that basically loads an entire text file into a streamreader variable, then reads this variable line by line and parses and writes a line into a new text file. I'm VERY new and my knowledge is mostly self-taught, but I can't seem to get out of this one. It works for smaller files, but it appears to reach a limit in characters at some point because in a file of 900 lines, it stops writing about halfway through 800 and there are no errors, the program actually completes and the message box pops up.

There are a few things with this code I already know I should fix, such as creating the new text file name, it's messy, I just don't know how.

Private Sub btnProcess_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnProcess.Click
Dim IndexValues As String()

Extract XML From RSS Feed?

Jul 24, 2009

I am having trouble extracting the response XML from an XMLHTTP request.

I am currently subscribed to a RSS Feed, [URL]

The code I have only retrieves the first 20 posts rather than all of the 133 posts that I see.

I am linking the problem to cookie settings. I seem to think that the request I am sending is not incorporating the cookie settings that I have on my computer.

You may have to subscribe to a feed to extract more than 20 posts. The standard for RSS feeds (without subscriptions) only allows a user to view 20 posts, HOWEVER, with subscription, the feed's number of posts grows.

Provided is the code I have implemented so far

Sub tester()
Dim xmlreq As MSXML2.XMLHTTP
Dim xmldoc As MSXML2.DOMDocument
Dim strurl As String

C# - Consuming WordPress RSS Feed In ASP.NET?

Jun 25, 2012

How do I consume my WordPress blog's RSS feed to display my latest blog posts on my homepage? I ran into the following piece of code to do this:

Function GetRSSFeed(strURL as String) as DataTable
'Get the XML data
Dim reader as XmlTextReader = New XmlTextReader(strURL)

[Code]....

But it errors out at this line: 'ds.ReadXml(reader)' with the following error:

A column named 'comments' already belongs to this DataTable.

Perhaps it doesn't work since this code is from 2003? Does anyone have a working code sample?

Create An ICalendar Feed?

Jul 20, 2009

I need to create a application in vb.net that puts out those cool <<Subscribe to ical>> links, which I can prefill with our events and milestones. While I have figured out I need to use DDay.ical.dll to get the events into a .ics file, I am not clear about how to get these to publish. I was thinking of using an RSS feed, but that defeats the purpose of using icals and would require a RSS to ICal converter,which seems unnecessary.
