basically what I want to do is compile a program from my program(parent) to a seperate program(child) which is a module I have created.
When I compile my child program from my parent program I want to add a .exe resource to the child and when the child program runs I want to run the resource I added.
I want to add an xls file as resource to my vb.net project.
I added the existing file and when i write the code which will help the user to download the file , i am not able to see the resource listed in the dropdown .
Dim b() As Byte = My.Resources.abc System.IO.File.WriteAllBytes("C:abc.xls", b) MsgBox("abc downloaded in C:", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Project")
I have a couple of pictures in my resources. I know that I can set an image by: picturebox1.image=my.resource.picture1 But how can I add an image if I hold its name in a string variable?
I've added multi-language support to my application by setting the Localizable property of each form to True and changing the Language property to the desired one. Then I change the Culture.
vb.net System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = New System.Globalization.CultureInfo("de-DE") System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = New System.Globalization.CultureInfo("de-DE")
VB automatically creates the resource files and this works all fine, but now I need to do something similar for Strings and MessageBoxes, e.g. MessageBox.Show(My.Resources.Exit). Everywhere I read that I need two resource files in order to do this, but I can't find where to add a second resource file myself.
Every forum post or google search result I found says, go to 'Project -> Add Resource', but I don't have the "Add Resource" menu option. Or they say, right click on your solution and go to 'Add -> Resource (RESX)', but I don't have a "Resource (RESX)" menu option either. When I go to 'Project -> Add New Item', there's no 'resource' option in the list either. Am I blind or does VB2010 Express not have an option to add resource files manually?
I have a simple app (coded in VB 2008 Express Edition) that uses an SQL Server database (in .mdf format) that works fine on my own machine. I created the database in SQL Server on this machine. I added the DB as a data source and it works fine. But when packaged this app (ClickOnce) and installed this app on a different machine the installer tries to download MS SQL Server Express. Obviously this is because SQL Server is a prerequisite and is not installed on the other machine. But just as obvious is the fact that the download will take a long time to complete before my code even starts installing.
My question is this: Is there an SQL Server reference (using Add Reference...) that I can add to avoid this? I suspect the application just needs one or two DLL files from SQL Server. Downloading the whole product seems like overkill. Is there a way I can included the needed files in my app to avoid this long download process?
So I'm adding a tab panel to a child window. A lot of our controls here are user defined but this looks like an ExtJS issue. When I add a tab panel, and then try and add controls and stuff to that panel, everything is cut off on that panel.
Here is the code I am using:
Using ViewDetailsWin As New Pages.ChildWindow With ViewDetailsWin .IconCls = Model.WorkflowStepDefinition.SmallIcon .Ref = "viewDetailsWin"
[code].....
I can't even see the dropdown at all unless I scroll on the tiny little scroll bar it creates. It gives like a quarter inch on the screen to see anything inside the tab panel. There is no size property on the tab panel from what I can see.
I am using VB.NET 2008 Express. I had a project with a mdi parent and several child forms. On the child forms, I created a datagridview by dragging the necessary table from the dataset(s) from the data sources window.
Main form - PastorBase Child form - IllustrationList
When I try to debug it, I run into several errors from the code of the IllustrationList.Designer.vb file in this section [Code] However, the moment I make any change to the control by modifying properties or simply resizing it on the form, my change in this code is lost. So I am repeatedly having to change these lines (there are about five per child form). I am uncertain of what I am doing wrong. Should the dataset, etc. be added to the parent form and then called from the child form? Is there some setting I need to change somewhere?
Updating a VB6 prog in VS2005 on Windows 7. The prog has an MDI + child forms and there are a number of content types, with varying numbers of controls being set up and positioned from setup files.On forms which are not child forms I can easily add controls at run time like this:
Dim lab As New Label With lab .Left = 0 : .Top = 0 .Width = 800 : .Height = 800
[code]....
This doesn't work on a child form, no label is visible. Can't see any obvious problem in quickwatch.
[Code] I have a panel as the base of my custom control and I am adding other panels to it, along with a flow layout panel(myInnerContainer). I know the code above isn't going to work because when I try to add the regular panels to the main control, they will attempt to be added to the flow layout panel myInnerContainer, and cause a circular error. [Code] but intellisense doesn't display anything which leads me in the correct direction for adding only the buttons to the flow layout panel (myInnerContainer).

I was asked to create a program that inserts records into one parent table and multiple child tables. My question is, how do I know what the PK is for the parent table, so that I may add it as a FK in the child? The PK for the parent is an auto number. As I stated in my title, I'm using VB.net, mySQL, through an ODBC connection. I have to do this through the code and cannot use stored procedures.
my transaction looks like this:
Dim cmdText As String = "INSERT INTO candidate(first_name, last_name, phone1, phone2, email1, city, " _ & " state, country, zip,primary_contact_id ) VALUES (?,?, ?, ?,?,?, ?,?,?,?)"
I have an XML file and I have a function to which this XML is passed as string. I have loaded this string in Xmldocument and I need to insert few children nodes under one node. This function returns the modified XML string. I want that whenever this function is called, new child nodes are added, currently, It adds child nodes once.Do I need to overwrite the XML file ? If so, How can I replace the node with new node ( with new child nodes added) so that It has child nodes added before the function is called again ?
My code looks something like this:
Dim doc As New XmlDocument doc.LoadXml(applicationXml) Dim parentNode As XmlNode = doc.GetElementsByTagName("prList").Item(0)
I am not sure I am getting the concept of referencing nodes in a treeview. When I hard-code nodes like:
tnParentNode = New TreeNode("ABC") tvReports.Nodes.Add(tnParentNode) tnParentNode = New TreeNode("Some Other Company")
[code]....
I get two parent nodes and one child off Some Other Company. However, when I pull information from a couple of tables to set up the parent and then the child nodes, I only get the parent nodes.So I pull the main parent nodes from one table and the child nodes from another table.This code pulls the parent nodes without any problem:
strSQLText = "SELECT lID, sCatName FROM Category ORDER BY iSortOrder DESC" reader = GetReader(strSQLText) While reader.Read
[code]....
But this does not add the child nodes. I am assuming it is because of the first line in the above reader.read while loop. I must not be referencing the proper parent node but I am not sure how to do it.
I have a treeview. The root nodes have images set at 30x30 - is there a way to add child nodes with NO image or a smaller image? I can do a blank image, but each child is spaced far apart! I would like the child nodes to be like there is no image... tight and close to each other.
I am having trouble adding a row to a databound datagridview on a parent form from a child form. I have two forms, one contains a datagridview that is bound to a table using 'datagridviewbindingsource' and contains an 'add' button. The second contains a checked listbox that is populated correctly and has a "Cancel" and an 'OK' button - when i check several items in the child form, i would like to hit okay and update the bindingsource of the datagridview on the first form with the checked items.
Code: in form1 when btnAdd is clicked dim f2 as new form2 'call it as a dialog to check for the cancel button f2.ShowDialog() [Code] .....
I have a PDF file that I want to open in my program. It will not be viewable outside the program. Can I embed this PDF file as a resource and call it when I need to display it? If so, how do I call it? I found this information for C# but not for vb.net.
Im working with MDI parent/child objects. when closing the child objects i need the child to check to see if it is the last child object before closing. i couldn't find anything on google, maybe im searching for the wrong thing.
I am trying to embed a TrueType font into my program as a resource.I've tried many different methods, and then tried some I found online... nothing works. I want to have a .ttf file in my program, and I want to have a textbox be able to use that font.
I have a program written in VB.NET which stops a service that uses file x, modifies x, and restarts the service.
I have modified my code for testing so that it just reads in the file as a string and immediately writes it back out.
Shell("net stop " & SERVICE_NAME, , True) Dim myReader As System.IO.StreamReader myReader = My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFileReader(x) fileString = myReader.ReadToEnd()
[Code]....
The stopping of the service is no problem, and modifying the file is no problem, but when the service starts it stops immediately because, as best I can guess, the file is in use. Even when I try to start the service manually, it stops immediately. However, I found that I can open file x, click save without modifying anything, close the file, and start the service and everything works correctly.
If I comment out the writing part, everything works fine.
Also, the file I'm modifying has a .conf file extension. I don't know if this is relevant.
I have a PictureBoxMain on my form. I have 6 buttons. When I click a button, I want the picture box to display an image that relates to the button I've clicked.
Public Class FormPipe1 Private Sub ButtonBranch_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ButtonBranch.Click
I need to refer to some strings using an "indirect string" in the registry. It should be in this form:
@filename,resource
MSDN: "If the resource value is zero or greater, the number becomes the index of the string in the binary file. If the number is negative, it becomes a resource ID."How can I find out either of these numbers for my resources that only have names in VB? I also need the ID/index for the exe's icon.
I have a webpage with a form that is used to edit some object. This object contains a Collection of other objects defined like this: Public Overridable Property Employees As List(Of Employee)
On a form I can delete an employee, add a new one or modify existing one. When I click save new values are sent to the server. On a server I check if the user exists. If exists then I modify its values, if it does not exist then I add it. All employees that exist on the server and were not sent are marked as deleted (State changed to EntityState.Deleted). I try to use the following code (dbCollection = database entities, newCollection = collection sent from the form):
[Code]...
This code does not work, because changing to EntityState.Deleted removes the object from collection, and for each loop breaks, since the collection is modified...I know that I can overcome this problem by using a for loop or adding objects to delete to some other list first, but I hope maybe there is a pattern that would make my code nicer.
As Autodesk is going to discontinue VBA for their Inventor product in the near future I have been looking at other ways to run VB.NET in Inventor. To date it doesn't look like VSTA will be the replacement. Automation from an External VB.NET app is certainly possible, but leaves something to be desired for speed and integration. Compiled Add Ins are the Cadillac of choice but can be a royal pain to debug and develop. Autodesk now provides a lightweight VB.NET script interface called iLogic. It's main purpose is to allow extreme customization of Solid Modeling parts. The code actually resides inside the Part Model file.
I need to read an xml document from a database record into an XDocument object in order for it to be deserialized. So that the deserialization will work, I need to apply a specific namespace to each of the level 1 elements. So XML looks a bit like this:
[Code]...
How do I prevent the blank/empty namespace being added to each child element of the element to which the required namespace has been applied?
i have a treeview which has a bunch of parent and child nodes preset at design time, there is 1 parent node tho which is called developer, that i want to add child nodes to at runtime.When the form first loads im trying to have it check a text file and for each line in the text file add the text/string from that as a child node tot he 'developer' parent node.
vb Dim reader As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText(Application.StartupPath() & "ConfigDevs.txt") Dim strs() As String = Split(reader, Environment.NewLine) For Each s As String In strs
[code]....
Thats what i have so far, how can i set it so 'Dim parentNode As TreeNode = ' points at the 'Developer' node?
I have master/detail tables like Requistion and RequisitionDetail. when I use update command object in order to update both master/detail tables, the master table will be updated but the data in the detail table still remain unchanged. [code]...
