Im working with MDI parent/child objects. when closing the child objects i need the child to check to see if it is the last child object before closing. i couldn't find anything on google, maybe im searching for the wrong thing.

i have created two forms A and B when button in form A is clicked B is invoked when B is running its not possible to work on A until i close form B. How can i work on A without closing B
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to give the user a chance to cancel FormClosing of MDI Parent by throwing a "Are you sure?" msgbox with an e.cancel however when FormClosing is invoked by MDI Parent, all MDI Children close first, before the msgbox appears.
I was wondering if there's an easier way to prevent MDI Children from closing rather than having to e.cancel every child form's FormClosing until I get a positive response to close and then push all the close events on the children because that seems like too much of a hassle if you have a lot of MDI Children.
EDIT: I guess the only solution I can find is adding If e.CloseReason = CloseReason.MdiFormClosing Then e.Cancel = True to the FormClosing event and using ApplicationExit instead.

All I really need to know at this point is the code to open and close each form.
I have a table (Projects) which is linked to projectVersions on projectID..projectVersions contains several columns on which I'd like to filter a returned project (and associated projectVersions) list. For example there is a "capacity" column and a "country" column. I am doing a filtered list of projects on one page and I'd like to include all projects where any one of the associated projectVersions has a capacity of 750ml and a country of "France" for example.It may be that a particular parameter is not set and so I pass a zero to indicate not to filter on that.I guess this needs some kind of subquery as when I try and do something like this: [code] it doesn't work as the "xxx" bit, being one-to-many, expects me to specify an item to get at the entities within and yet I want to query where ANY of the associated versions match one of the criteria.

I'm having a small problem concerning displaying maximized child-forms in a MDI-application. Everything works fine on Win. Vista but when I start the program on a PC with Win. XP it doesn't look very nice. I found some similar threads on the internet but no answers. Does anyone know how to display maximized windows in MDI properly? All works fine i.e when a parent nod is checked, its child and sub child should be checked as well but it won't check only the first subchilds and i am not able to find the solution, i have debugged it many time, but still not able to figure the solution.

I was wondering how I would go about placing a check in the checkboxes for each child node of a parent node in a TreeView control, if I was to check the parent node.
For example:
Parent 1Child 1
Child 2
Child 3
If I was to check "Parent 1" how would I be able to make that event place a checkbox beside all of the child nodes of "Parent 1"? (Child1, 2, and 3.)
I have a parent form that has a list of items and each item has a unique ID. The user can open one or many of the items in a child form (it is set up in a tabbed MDI), but it can only open one instance of each item at a time.
In the parent form, I was going to make a collection (or something like that, maybe there is a better way) to keep track of which items are open in the child forms. I need to know when each child is closed so that it can be removed from the collection and reopened at a later time. I was thinking that when the child form closes, it somehow does something (like raise an event) that tells the parent form to remove the unique ID from the list of current open child forms.
My questions are, is this a good way to do this and I am pretty sure I would use the form closed event in the child form to update that parent form, but as well, I didn't know if this is the best way of handling it.
If raising the event is a good way, are some examples on how to do it out there? I found some for controls, but not while the form is closing/closed.

View 6 RepliesMy program handles XML files that have certain elements within a root-child node that are identical expect for their inner text value. So while populating my combo box with all of a root-child's child element's names I get like five identical items listed. Which brought about the problem of selecting say the third item and getting the value of the first displayed. So I came up with a loop function that determines if the selected combo box item is preceded by one of the same name, if it is, then it adds +1 to a counter variable and keeps checking farther and farther up the list. Once it loops to an item that doesn't have the same name it exits and it reads the Xth (X = counter mentioned earlier) element's inner text from the file. This works great for elements 1, 3, 4, and 5. But not for 2. A while back when I was focused on this problem I discovered the root of the problem but I was unable to circumvent it. I'll put the loop below so you can see the problem in action instead of trying to follow my verbose explanation:

If the user closed the child form, my application should close both the parent form and child form. What i have done is, i declared a boolean in the child form and passed the boolean value to parent. As Autodesk is going to discontinue VBA for their Inventor product in the near future I have been looking at other ways to run VB.NET in Inventor. To date it doesn't look like VSTA will be the replacement. Automation from an External VB.NET app is certainly possible, but leaves something to be desired for speed and integration. Compiled Add Ins are the Cadillac of choice but can be a royal pain to debug and develop. Autodesk now provides a lightweight VB.NET script interface called iLogic. It's main purpose is to allow extreme customization of Solid Modeling parts. The code actually resides inside the Part Model file.

I'm all new to this treeview business. I have a fixed treeview, very simple and basic. Only two levels, parent and child nodes. I just need two things out of this treeview.
1) If parent is checked, check all child nodes.
2) If just one child node is unchecked, uncheck parent node.

I have a main form, and some sub forms, and each sub form can have some sub forms. When I have multiple sub forms open, and I try to get data from the parent form, it returns the data from the wrong parent form.For example I have two instances of Mainform.subform running. If I do something like this in a child form of one instance of the subform. It returns data from the other subform.
