I am making an address book for my final project in school, and have a few questions. In my address book, there is a feature to add groups so you can sort your contacts. The problem is, the add group feature is in a different form, I tried calling a procedure from the parent form to refresh all data but it does not work.[code]

View 5 RepliesI'm trying to give the user a chance to cancel FormClosing of MDI Parent by throwing a "Are you sure?" msgbox with an e.cancel however when FormClosing is invoked by MDI Parent, all MDI Children close first, before the msgbox appears.
I was wondering if there's an easier way to prevent MDI Children from closing rather than having to e.cancel every child form's FormClosing until I get a positive response to close and then push all the close events on the children because that seems like too much of a hassle if you have a lot of MDI Children.
EDIT: I guess the only solution I can find is adding If e.CloseReason = CloseReason.MdiFormClosing Then e.Cancel = True to the FormClosing event and using ApplicationExit instead.
I am looking to close the application when I click a cancel button in a login page, but I don't want to do it in such a way that Window 2 closes itself, but by sending some notification to Main Window, and Main Window closes the application. Here's the code that I have so far:

If I show a new non-modal child window using .Show(frmParent), and then the parent window is minimized, the child will get minimized automatically as well.

VB Windows form Application.. I am developing an application of which part of the program is around configuration settings allowing the user to enter configuration items. When the menubar item for configuration menu is clicked on the main form the menu opens.This is fine but the mainform should not become active again until the configuration menu has closed. This does not happen right now and the mainform simply comes to the foreground and the configuration form goes to the background... I realize that coding an event on the Child form to handle this would not work because the child window loses control and the main form gains control.. I thought of coding a function as follows on the main form but it does not seem logical because i would have to add to it for everyform and do checking to make sure the child is actually open before trying to close it..

I'm working on a sdi-like WPF application with VB as the code behind. Basically, I have a main window that has some tabs and a button that opens (shows) another child window. I need that child window to refer back to the parent main window and automatically bring it in focus and have a specific tab selected (via a button on that child). The child window is a separate class file with its own xaml and VB code in my project.In the child I tried using

My.Windows.MainWindow.Focus()
but this does not appear to work as the main window in the background doesn't appear to be referenced in this way. I can use My.[bla bla].Show() - but that creates a whole new instance of the main window on top of the old one. Activate() doesn't work either since the main window is already activated.It seems like a simple task but am I forced to use something like SetForegroundWindow()?
Here's an example of what I mean: I have Microsoft Word open. I click 'Save As' to open the SaveFileDialog. When I try to click back into Word the SvaeFileDialog window flashes and it plays a beep noise. More importantly, it doesn't let the main program gain focus whilst it's open.

In my code I enter a string in a text box and have the query check the server for the entry. If it exists it returns the string and the date into two separate variables. I am trying to create a simple parent-child form in VB2010. I use a datagridview for each table/datasource and each is bound to the paretn/child table and each table grid fills correctly. What I want is the parent-child relation to enforce filling the child table with only rows that fulfill the current row on the parent. I have created a DataRelation in the form load, but it will not permit a relation between tables in 2 different datasets. If I attempt to place both tables in a single dataset and define the PK-FK relation in the SQL Serve,r I cannot create 2 separate datagrids from the same dataset.

View 1 RepliesI have a parent form that has a list of items and each item has a unique ID. The user can open one or many of the items in a child form (it is set up in a tabbed MDI), but it can only open one instance of each item at a time.
In the parent form, I was going to make a collection (or something like that, maybe there is a better way) to keep track of which items are open in the child forms. I need to know when each child is closed so that it can be removed from the collection and reopened at a later time. I was thinking that when the child form closes, it somehow does something (like raise an event) that tells the parent form to remove the unique ID from the list of current open child forms.
My questions are, is this a good way to do this and I am pretty sure I would use the form closed event in the child form to update that parent form, but as well, I didn't know if this is the best way of handling it.
If raising the event is a good way, are some examples on how to do it out there? I found some for controls, but not while the form is closing/closed.
i have a parent form which is having a grid view. In the KeyDown event of the grid view i am calling a child form. If the user closed the child form, my application should close both the parent form and child form. What i have done is, i declared a boolean in the child form and passed the boolean value to parent. May be the code below will give the picture of what i am trying to do.

I have a main form, and some sub forms, and each sub form can have some sub forms. When I have multiple sub forms open, and I try to get data from the parent form, it returns the data from the wrong parent form.For example I have two instances of Mainform.subform running. If I do something like this in a child form of one instance of the subform. It returns data from the other subform.

I have a table (Projects) which is linked to projectVersions on projectID..projectVersions contains several columns on which I'd like to filter a returned project (and associated projectVersions) list. For example there is a "capacity" column and a "country" column. I am doing a filtered list of projects on one page and I'd like to include all projects where any one of the associated projectVersions has a capacity of 750ml and a country of "France" for example.It may be that a particular parameter is not set and so I pass a zero to indicate not to filter on that.I guess this needs some kind of subquery as when I try and do something like this: [code] it doesn't work as the "xxx" bit, being one-to-many, expects me to specify an item to get at the entities within and yet I want to query where ANY of the associated versions match one of the criteria.

I am working on a .NET console app which needs to clean up resources on exit. The problem I'm running into is that I don't get any notification if the cmd parent is closed via the console window [X], via Task Manager/Process Explorer or programmatically with WM_CLOSE. I can live with not being able to handle Kill Process from Task Mgr. or ProcExp. WM_CLOSE of the parent console is the most likely way that this application will be closed before it's finished processing.
Here are the events I've tried to register for so far:
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.ProcessExit += CurrentDomainProcessExit;
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += CurrentDomainUnhandledException;
Console.CancelKeyPress += ConsoleCancelKeyPress;
Application.ApplicationExit += ApplicationApplicationExit;

These events fire properly when I send a CTRL+C from the console or the application finishes uninterrupted. But none of them fire when the parent app (cmd console) is closed. (The parent/grandparent processes aren't CLR so I'm not sure I would ever receive those Disposed/Exited events. Those are just shots in the dark.) I've looked at some pInvoke stuff but I would rather not go down that road if .NET is an option. Is there a way to detect and handle a shutdown in these situations? I am open to any .NET, pInvoke/Win32/C/C++ solution. (Basically any way it can be done on the Windows platform.). I'm still working with .NET 2.0 so I can't use anything introduced in .NET 3.0+
How will i close all the forms within my main form? Everytime I click on the menus of my main form,I'm setting my main form as MDI-Parent form and then loading a new form as it it is the child form if I'm not mistaken.
