Adding CheckBoxes To TreeView Control
Jun 14, 2011
I've created a treeview that is going to represent a 'table of contents' for a Word template I use frequently and I need to add checkboxes to each node of the tree view.
Here is some of my code so far:
tvwSIGtemplate.Nodes.Add tvwSIGtemplate.Nodes.Item(2), tvwNext, , "3. Statment of the Issue and Solution"
tvwSIGtemplate.Nodes.Add tvwSIGtemplate.Nodes.Item(3), tvwChild, , "3.1 Issue Details"
tvwSIGtemplate.Nodes.Add tvwSIGtemplate.Nodes.Item(4), tvwNext, , "3.2 Solution Details"
What to add to these lines to simply display a checkbox next each line?

I'm having a problem with part of my application I'm trying to get the directory entry for a computer object in AD (it could be mutiple computer objects based on whether or not the users passes a wild card for the object name). These names would be added add a child node of the parent node "Computers" in the tree view. I'm just having problems with using the search results...
Private Sub Form2_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim parentCNNode As TreeNode = New TreeNode("cn")
TreeView1.Nodes.Add("Computers")

What is the best way to clear all of a asp:TreeView checkboxes so that they are all unchecked? I've tried iterating through the treenodes and unchecking but this isn't working especially for child node checkboxes.

I have a 3 layer treeview and is using the code below. I am getting it to do the following,
1) If parent is checked, check all child nodes.
2 If just one child node is unchecked, uncheck parent node.
3) If all child nodes are checked, check parent node.
Code below only works for 2 layers. Would appreciate if you can guide me how to make it three. There are much information on treeview but most of them seems irrelevant =/ Will be great if you can show me a good guide on treeview control.
Private Sub TreeView1_AfterCheck(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As TreeViewEventArgs) Handles TreeView1.AfterCheck
RemoveHandler TreeView1.AfterCheck, AddressOf TreeView1_AfterCheck
For Each node As TreeNode In e.Node.Nodes
node.Checked = e.Node.Checked

I found some Win32 code to selectively remove CheckBoxes from nodes in a TreeView. I would like to know if there is another way to do this, since we would like to stay away from Win32. Will this work under Window 7?

Structure TVITEM
Public mask As Integer
Public hItem As IntPtr

I have a tree view with checkboxes. When a user checks an item in the tree, all items below it in the tree should be checked automatically to match the parent. The same is true is a user unchecks an item. That's been reasonably easy to implement using the after check event:-
Private Sub tvwUserGroups_AfterCheck(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TreeViewEventArgs) Handles tvwUserGroups.AfterCheck
If Not m_Isloading _
[code].....

i have a treeview say TV1 and another Treeview Say TV2.. Now TV1 Contains all nodes for user rights. and i want to add to tv2 only selected nodes.Like TV1 is
Node 1
....Child of Node 1 (Level 2)
.........Child of Child of Node 1 (Level 3)
what i want is that when i select Level3 Node it should chek TV2 for the parent of this node. if parent exist it should add the node under the same parent. if parent does not exist it should check for Level 1 Node and if it exist it should add Level 2 Node and then Level 3 Node. Otherwise it should add Level 1 , Level 2 and then Level 3 Nodes in order.

I've got this code which basically loops through a set of folders and subfolders and finds specific file types. And then lists these in a listview. Now, it's intended to list exe and msi files. And I've made it so that these icons can be doubleclicked after they have been listed. I do this by adding the path to the file in it's tag property.
But, my superiors want a checkbox next to each item. So that they can check each item they want installed. And then have a button which runs the path in each tag property one at a time. It's basically the part where I fill the listview with the checkbox, filename of the exe or msi file, tag and the icon that I'm wondering about.
This is the existing code. This includes just a Tile view of the listview. Public Sub getDirectories(ByVal strFilepath As String, ByVal strFileExtension As String, ByVal objControl As Object)
'Load first files from the root folder. Then loop each subfolder
Dim di As New DirectoryInfo(strFilepath)
Dim aryFi As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles(strFileExtension, SearchOption.AllDirectories)
[Code]...
But there should be a way of combining these two right? I'm not sure how I can add a checkbox in the first column of the listview? I've already set the Checkbox property of the listview to True. But I could use some pointers here if anyone's got any. :)

i want to add a node just above all removable drives from the thread I asked about in before. I decided that I don't want to have "C:" as a node, instead I just want my program to be the node. I've worked with this before but i can't figure it out without messing up what I already have.

I have a requirement for a new application development where I must present some information to the user for selection via drag and drop. VB offers the TreeView control which would work nice, however the user does not like the Treeview control's presentation. The user wants a control that work similar to the Mac's Finder control while in column view.
Apple's Mac Finder Control works similar to window's treeview. Finder has a nifty view capability that my users would like in some new development that is being done. The finder supports a "column" view. Similar to the treeview, it starts out in a root list. The difference being, when a user makes a selection and clicks on a node, the node doesn't expand, the sub nodes appear on the pane to the right of the list. Clicking on a sub node, will cause the pane to split again and the items within that sub node appear
to the right again.
This will happen again and again with the left pane getting narrower as the user drives deeper into the sub nodes. That is what I am trying to replicate. Obviously, once the user reaches the base list of items, we have to support drag and drop capability. Does anyone know of a control for VB.NET that work similar to the Mac's Finder control?

This is somewhat of a multi part question, let me start off by explaining what I'm trying to do. I have an organized folder system with data files in them. Each folder has a set structure to their naming, and can contain sub folders and files. It will be a jagged directory system. I'm trying to import their structure into a TreeView. I have the workings of a recursive system that adds all files and folders into a ViewTree, however they aren't organized by parent/child.
So I get this...
-C:Temp
-C:TempData
-C:Tempfile1.txt
-C:Tempfile2.txt
-C:TempDatafile3.txt
-C:TempDatafile4.txt
etc........
How would I go about parsing the directory paths, and include them into a parent/child relationship... looking like this
+Temp
--file1.txt
--file2.txt
-+Data
---file3.txt
---file4.txt
Also I when the line item is selected, I need to know which file is selected so I can use it's full path to call up data (using an API) based upon the it's full root path.

In the following code example, I am querying WMI for Memory Modules and adding the information to a TreeView component.
VB.NET
Dim Scope As New ManagementScope("
ootCIMV2")
Scope.Connect()
Dim objectQuery As New ObjectQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_PhysicalMemory")
Dim Searcher As New ManagementObjectSearcher(Scope, objectQuery)
[Code] .....
When I run the code, I expect to see a Parent Node named System Memory, and two Child Nodes for each memory module installed. I do get the appropriate Child Nodes, but I also get an extra Parent Node and I can't seem to figure out why:

I am having a performance issue when adding a large array to a treeview. I am pretty sure that I am using the wrong method but I was unable to find a better way to load the tree.here's and example code of what I mean. this takes about 30 seconds to load into the tree.
Code:
Public Class Form1
Public StringArray(10000) As String
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

I am not sure I am getting the concept of referencing nodes in a treeview. When I hard-code nodes like:
tnParentNode = New TreeNode("ABC")
tvReports.Nodes.Add(tnParentNode)
tnParentNode = New TreeNode("Some Other Company")
[code]....
I get two parent nodes and one child off Some Other Company. However, when I pull information from a couple of tables to set up the parent and then the child nodes, I only get the parent nodes.So I pull the main parent nodes from one table and the child nodes from another table.This code pulls the parent nodes without any problem:
strSQLText = "SELECT lID, sCatName FROM Category ORDER BY iSortOrder DESC"
reader = GetReader(strSQLText)
While reader.Read
[code]....
But this does not add the child nodes. I am assuming it is because of the first line in the above reader.read while loop. I must not be referencing the proper parent node but I am not sure how to do it.

I have a treeview. The root nodes have images set at 30x30 - is there a way to add child nodes with NO image or a smaller image? I can do a blank image, but each child is spaced far apart! I would like the child nodes to be like there is no image... tight and close to each other.

I have a ListView with the columns 'Name', 'Expected', 'Total', and I want to add another column saying 'Recount' at the end. The 'Recount' column will ideally have a checkbox only if the 'Expected' value is larger than the 'Total' value.
So far I have got the ListView with columns and can add a check box on the left hand side, but that check box is not under a column heading (though I can probably put another column with no values in there to work around that) and it is on all of the records.

I need a way to have 3 colums of checkboxes inside a checkedlistbox. I know i could do it with a panel, labels and checkboxes. But having them all in the control would be more convenient. I'm pretty sure there is no direct way of doing this, so i assume i need to create a user control. If you're not completely sure what i'm trying to create, i'm going for something that looks like this: [URL]
