I'm not sure if i titled this question properly or am asking it properly, but here goes.I've got serialized objects (in XML) stored in a database, along with a string/varchar indicating the type.

I have 2 dgv's on a form that are both alike and even use the same datasource, just one column is different betwenn the two.I manually added the columns and set the datasource and bindings. When I make a change to the properties in one of my dgv's it keeps auto generating the columns I do not need.
View 2 RepliesI have a datagridview that has 4 colums(ID,Name,Amount) connecting to the database in vb.net and im supposed to do is that whenever the user enter records with the same Name the column Name and the column Id remains its data while the Amount value is either adding or subtracting depending the update situation. Is this possible to do this in datagridview?
View 5 RepliesI have a datagridview and I'd like to write it to a file in the same type of row and column format it's currently in.My first idea for doing this is to get the maximum number of characters in each column so i know how wide each column has to be formatted. Then loop through each row and write out each row while using the max characters in each column and the current cells content length to do the math to get the formatted columns to line up. Like the example below, except i'd have a lot more in it.
writer.WriteLine("{0,0}{1," & lb(2).Length + 50 - lb(1).Length & "}", lb(1), lb(2))
This takes label(1) and label(2) and writes them so no mater the length of either (to an extent) then will always be right hand aligned in two columns.
I'm working on a project. Part of the project needs me to capture data, for example, email address, from certain rows/columns of a datagridview and displays them in a textbox on another windows form(form1.vb) with a click of a button(Add Contact button). I am familiar with doing these in web form but windows form are different and i am not familiar with it.
View 11 RepliesI have a generic Class I'm using to hold information loaded from a database.I have a method which takes a DataRow as an argument, uses the object's known column name and extracts the data from the DataRow, such that:Dim loadData As T = CType(myDataRow("myColumnName"), T))works as my default assignment in most cases.Unfortunately, due to some horrifying design constraints, some of my columns may be null, and may also be taken from enumerations.This means that when <T> is Nullable(Of SomeEnumeration) the above code does not work because I can't cast 0 directly to SomeEnumeration.Zero.Is there some way to check whether <T> is Nullable(Of [Enum])? Or some way to write a method which allows Integers to be cast to Nullable(Of [Enum])?I feel like I'm forgetting something that would allow me to write one of the other of these, but my weak google-fu is turning up nothing.
EDIT: Okay, thanks to dasblinkenlight's answer below, I can detect when this circumstance is occurring, but what I need to do now is to take a type <T> which I know is Nullable(Of SomeClass), get a type reference to SomeClass and then create a new object of type Nullable(Of SomeClass) and assign that to LoadData.My problem was that I had a lot of difficulty in finding any function which would accept baseType as an actual Type.Parse accepted baseType as a parameter, I knew baseType was an [Enum] type because of dasblinkenlight's code, so I was, in this instance, able to code a solution. It's a solution which is very specific to my problem (i.e., T is Nullable(of SomeEnumeration)), but it's a solution nonetheless.
I need to check if a label starts with a certain text, but it wont work!Here is the code I have:
Dim str1 As String = Label1.Text
Dim value As String = "abc123"
If str1.StartsWith(value) Then
'do something
end if
May I also add that the label i'm checking (the text inside it) has no spaces, i don't know if that makes any difference.
I Have this date "27/03/1985" and because it starts with days i can't convert it to datetime.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to make an application which will list all processes in a string when it starts. After it has listed them all I enable my timer, and in the timer there gets checked if the process is in the process list (string), and if it isn't it will add it to my listbox. The only problem is, it's not working, it's never adding an item.
vb.net
Public Class Form1 Dim AllProcesses As String Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'The first check For Each p In System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcesses() If AllProcesses = "" Then AllProcesses = p.ProcessName Else AllProcesses += "|" + p.ProcessName End

I'd like a simple program to understand the lock type and its usage. Also, please give a brief example of cursor types.
View 1 RepliesI have tried several ways but can not make this work. We are using .NET 2.0
vb

'this did not work either:
ElseIf DataGridView1.Columns(e.ColumnIndex).ValueType = GetType(DateTime)

i have a password generator and am trying to improve it by adding checkboxes for the diffrent character types eg ABC, abc, 123 , @~}
Public Class Form1

I want to make that program starts when computer starts. I have no idea how to do that.
View 4 RepliesI have the following statement, I want to turn it into a Public Shared Function :
If isEmployee Then
Dim employeeInstance As New Employee
employeeInstance = GetEmployeeInstanceByUserId(userId)
[Code]....
Public Shared Function GetWorkerInstance(Byval isEmployee as Boolean) As ...(not sure what to write here)...
There two possible return Type. I'm not sure what I should declare for the function return type.
I have bee trying to figure out, how to match generic types, without the type parameter in a IF-ELSE statement - heres what i mean:
<P>IF TypeOf(Obj) Is GenericTypeExample(Of ???Any???) Then</P>
<P>End if</P>
In visual studio (VB environment), for exemple, with point structure, while debbuging, in state of displaying {system.drawing.point} at the object value, its display the X and Y value.For exemple :
Dim pt as new point(8,9)
A spy on pt will show "{X = 8 Y = 9}"So i want :
Dim cust1 as cust_type1
to display me something differente than "{namespace.cust_type1}"
I am writing a code-generator that will need to output some miniscule portions of VB.NET code, and since this is a code generator that will add user-provider code, I'd like to try to avoid type name conflicts with types or names in the user-provided code.
In C#, I can prefix types with global:: to make sure they're matched from the global type namespace hierarchy, rather than some local name, but is there a similar system for VB.NET? ie. this: global::System.String
I get the error

in the following code..

I am auto generating data grid and I am using check box in Data grid View,Now i am invoking check box state changed event but it produces the following error Handles clause requires a With Events variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types.
Here the code
Private Sub PRNT_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles PRNT.CheckedChanged
Some Stuff.

I am in the processing of moving an app from VB to C# but some of the classes I will just be moving to VB dlls to access from the main C# app. In doing this I am trying to get the VB dlls to utilize the main C# class lib. In this C# lib I have an abstract clase called base process, it sets up a background worker and handles all the progress tracking, errors, and even reports an ETA. To use this in a derived class in C# you would just do this...
public class SomeLongProcess : Common.Multithreading.BaseProcess
{
public void start()
[code]....
The problem is that if I do the equivelant in VB I get an error "Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type of one of its base types". Well I can't do a WithEvents in the base class because it is C# so..
I am trying to follow this thread
[URL]
and I have it pretty close but have one error.
Quote:Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types.
That error is on both of these, in blue

I have added the reference, I have also added them to the toolbox. My dictionary is all set. What did I miss?
I recently downloaded VB 2010 Express so i am quite new to the language, but i have worked with dark basic, which seems to b very similar.Anyway, my problem is that i cannot seem to correctly set out my array of a custom type/class. i am trying to create two arrays, one of available entities and another of selected entities of which the user selects the entities to be dealt with in irrelevant ways. i have creates a button (called test) which adds some entities to the available list and all the entities come back the same value but they shouldnt be as you'll c in the code. i have run the step into command a found that "available.item(#).Name = " will change all of the entity's names.As of current i am working with lists as the array kept asking for a 'new' statement but i couldnt figure out where to put it.[code]
View 7 RepliesI'm in the process of porting an old excel addin that was writen in VBA to VB .NET. The Excel addin interacts with a number of external com objects. The code sorta looks like this:[code...]
What I'm trying to do is read the string from the COM object and get it in durr for use later in my program.
That second line results in the exception posted above. If I try casting with CStr/CType I get the same exception.
The visual studio watch window reports the type of hurr.getString as a "System.__ComObject" whereas the VBA watch window reports the type as "Variant/Object/String".
Microsoft.VisualBasic.Information.TypeName(hurr.getString) says the type is "String".
i am getting errors on last two event handlers. what did i do wrong?
