Asp.net - Setting Trust Level In Web.config?

Jan 30, 2012

I can't send email via ASP.NET and sent an email to my web hosts for some help and was told to modify my security settings and was sent a link:[URL]..I've read what it said there and tried setting <trust level="Full" originUrl="" /> in web.config, but then I get the error:

This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the site administrator has locked access to this section using <location allowOverride="false"> from an inherited configuration file.

I've not set any other web.config file.So I asked the web hosts again, and asked if it was a server setting which I cannot change, but the response I got was just:

You'll need to specify a more specific path. Which is lovely, but I've no idea what that means! Having done a bit more digging I am wondering if I have to set up a separate trust file, is this correct? Could someone point me in the direction of the correct way to set up my Trust level (I realise "full" is probably incorrect as well?) as I really don't understand what I am supposed to do!

Asp.net - Setting Up Different Roles Depending On Url In Web.config?

Jan 17, 2012

<authentication mode="Windows"/>
<authorization>
<allow users="USERS"/>

[code]....

Is there a way to write an if statement in here to detect what url I am on so I can allow a certain role for that certain URL.

Example code in my head of what I kind of want to see:

If (UCase(Url) = UCase("URL")) Then
<allow roles="ROLES"/>
ElseIF(UCase(Url) = UCase("URL")) Then

[code]....

Is this even allowed in the web.config? I have 3 websites. One for Dev, UAT and PROD. Now for each sites I have different user groups for each set up. I just want to find a way that I can just find what URL i'm at and point it at the certain user group. I'm guessing I have to make a web.config for each because you can't do conditional statements but I'm just making sure. If I have to make a web.config for each how can I go about setting that up?

.net 1.1 - Start-up Window Changes Based On App.config Setting - Changing ?

Feb 24, 2009

I have this VB.Net 1.1 project that I have to make some changes to. There is a flag in the App.config file. If it is false, the page just loads a splash screen and runs the program normally. If it is true it first opens a login window. VB.Net is not something I've ever worked with before. I can't for the life of me figure out where the logic for the picking the startup object is. In the property pages, Main.vb is always set as the startup object, but that's not even the window that loads up when the flag is false, it always comes after the splash screen.

Email Application, Controlling Text Position In Email Body?

Jan 18, 2010

I am buidling an application that users can use to submit text data and attachments to email recipients. Certain fields, quite a few in fact from the textboxes in the app will be in the email body, and some in the subject line.This is how I am doing it right now, but I figured there has to be a better way. In VB it is one single line of code, not many like it is here. Ideally I would like to be able to better control the positioning in the message body.

mail.Body = String.Concat(Label1.Text, " ", TextBox1.Text, " ", Label2.Text, " ", TextBox3.Text, " ", Label5.Text, " ", DateTimePicker1.Text, " ", Label3.Text, " ", TextBox2.Text, " ", Label6.Text, " ", RichTextBox1.Text, " ", Label7, " ", RichTextBox2.Text)

I am having a problem setting up automated email signatures for a company through VBScript. Everything works fine apart from the rich text file creation. In this section for some reason a double underscore (__) always appears at the end of the e-mail signature when a user has their outlook set up for rich text. As you can see the script creates the signature in all the file formats needed.

C# - When Does Web.config Get Brought Into The Application

Nov 25, 2009

Can values from web.config be read completely at runtime or does the application make a copy of the current web.config upon initialization.

Essentially, I'm wandering if I make a change to web.config if it will take effect on the users next postback or if they would need to initialize an entirely new page load. In particular, I'm interested in sections of the web.config like sesssionState and when a change to timeout would take effect.

Application Config Suggested Ways Pro And Cons

I have a single .exe and am new to vb.net and either want the exe to check for app.config, ini or registry if does not exist to create and then save added config, if the exe runs again it uses the newly created settings.

Discussion is either on web.config files or deal only with external files for connection strings or earlier versions of vb.net not 2008.I have already successfully put connection strings into an external config file, but trying the same approach with application settings has failed.There are two sections of the app.config involved with application settings.

1. the configuration and config sections at the top of the config. file where the section group and the section name are described.

2. the actually data for the application settings by section group section name which appears in the body of the configuraton section of the app.config.[code]
