Suppose I have 4 different forms form1-4. If I open form1 from form 2 and close form2 how can I know that form2 opened form1 and not other form. Is there any function that does this or we need to pass the form_name during the transition and which one would be efficient.

View 4 RepliesI want to create for a game an external program that can give advice about what to do but I have no idea where to start.First off all I am not an unexpericend programmer but simply never did something like this before.Its about the game called PoxNora, this is some kind of advanced chess with so called 'runes' that can level, you can upgrade and collect.
The game send data to the client while you are playing. This data(is what i expect) contains information about what you are playing and what your opponent is playing. I know there are programs(forgot the names and cant find them that fast anymore ) that can listen to proccesses and detect network packages(wich is usually done for cheating in a lot of games). I want to do the same for this game and then let the program give advice.
Example of advice even when you dont know the game.I have 2 so called 'runes' and the enemy has 1. I want my program to calculate if it is better to attack firstly with one unit, maybe it causes debuffs, and then with the other one to maximize the damage output.
However it will take some time to create a program like this I really want to make it. I can create all those calculations myself but have no idea where to start with the network part.
I find it hard to manage tracking my time on multiple taks..esp when it comes time to charge How would i track time? ie if i click on a start button, then click on a stop button...how would i work out diff in hour mm secs....

However i need to be able to stop the expression when I enter a stop date so it would look like this "start date 1 to today= x amount of days" but i need to be able to add a stop date to end the counter. and if they go down again start date 2 to today and add number of days from start date 1.

I assumed it would be the same in VB2008 but I get the error.'cmbDataTable' is not a menber of 'System.Windows.Forms.Form'I am working my way through the project, first updating the global procedures - this is one - I haven't written the calls so cmbDataTable doesn't yet exist.
What are some good exercises that an intermediate/advanced VB.NET web programmer should to do gain syntax chops on C#? 1.) I created a copy of a form and displayed it using following code.
dim f=new frmParent()
f.show()
2.) Depending on conditions a button on frmParent opens a modal child form and asks for some informations. I used following code for that:
dim f = new ChildForm()
f.showDialog()
Both code works fine. When user press saves in child form i need to close childForm and use the user types values in parent form. I know how to close the childform but not sure how to pass info from childform to parent form.
I'm trying to build an application to increase my understanding of visual basic. I may have set the bar too high for myself but it's the challenge that makes it fun right? Anyway, I'm trying to make a transition effect of a page turning. The application is a brewing database which looks like a book. I think the transition would make it look more professional. Dose anyone have on how I might be able to accomplish this? A basic example even would go a very long way.

I used WCFStorm to call this WS and the result comes back in an instance, so I don't think the WS is a problem. I deleted the web reference a few times and added it back again. did the clean and rebuild operations.
I'm implementing a State Machine in WF 4.0. In some transitions, I have added a condition where I check that some variables have the expected values. The variables are enums and booleans, and everything is fine.
However, now I tried to evaluate when a property is null. I have and argument in my workflow, let's say, 'MyArgument'. In a transition, I try to put a condition like 'MyArgument.MyProperty = Nothing'. I never developed in VB.NET, I don't know if I'm missing something here...
VS2010 gives the following error: "Error 4 Compiler error(s) encountered processing expression "MyArg.MyProp = Nothing".
Operator '=' is not defined for types 'XXXX' and 'XXXX'
The type names are exactly the same, and I have debugged VS2010 to ensure that my assembly is not loaded from 2 different locations.
How can I check if the property is null or not?
BTW, I'm using VS2010 SP 1, with .NET Platform Update 1 installed, on W7 64 bits.
How could i re create the slide transition in the windows 8 lock screen. I want my form1 to quickly slide up while revealing form2(Both forms are borderless and in maximized state) (like when the lock screen slides up while revealing the logon screen in windows 8)

View 1 RepliesI am working on an application that has a Winforms and MVC3 Web component. We need to be able upload large files from the desktop to the web. I have tried the various VB 2010 WebClient and FTP FileUpload alternatives but continue to run into permission issues, even though the User-ID and password I supply are the same as those used by an FTP application that successfully copies files to the same MVC3 site. In my efforts to find alternative solutions, I have looked into using WCF which also seems complicated and problematic for this particular application.
The closest I have come to a solution utilizes HttpWebRequest on the Winforms application. The following VB 2010 and C# code (MVC3) successfully passes the Filename and File data to MVC3 (the InputStream contains the references and UrlEncode data, but the class containing the fields for this data are null. (I have also passed just the file data without the filename, and the uploaded file is successfully created from the InputStream - but the method variable is still null). Although I could pick apart the InputStream, I would prefer a more elegant alternative.

I am new to using visual basic 2005. I have a tutorial book and I have followed it but it does not help me understand. I have a limited understanding of the net framework and the drag and drop features.
What I want to know is this: How do I make a simple name and address tracker file that I can enter data and save it as a file. The book does not cover this proceedure but It is what I want to do.
IE: Start VB2005 start new windows app. Name (whatever) drag 2 label's and 2 textbox's and one button for saving data entry. I want this program to enter name in textbox1 (press enter) then enter address in textbox2 (press enter) then save file (whatever name) when you click the button.

I have 3 forms, the form one is an intro, form 2 loads a user and form 3 displays a user. i use the streamread / writer to load values on form 2, then when successful it loads form 3 and the vaules are transferred perfectly, now to save time i changed the start up form from form1 to form2 (saves having to skip every time). so after having all the code load and transfer i wanted to see it in action and then the issues started.

I have a 2nd form that is minimized to the taskbar, I can click on the tab and the form opens and shows all of the data fine, but
From the main form, I am maximizing the second form and trying to pass a value to a toolstrip textbox on the second form then press a button on the toolstrip from the second form, I can get this to work fine, but where I am having a problem is
The button searches through a treeview, when I step through my code, I can see the value that I am passing, my code does execute, but the treeview is showing no nodes(but they are really there). At the begining of the code, I put a message box to give me a count of the nodes in the treeview, it shows 0, but I can see all 10000+ nodes. What the textbox is on the toolstrip is a search box. When the form is maximized, I can enter whatever and it finds it with no problems, but if I pass a value it doesnt find anything because the treeview is saying there are no nodes when there is.
