Application Which Can Compile And Run C Programs?
Apr 7, 2010
These days I'm working on a VB.NET application which can be used to edit, compile and run C programs. how I can call a cl.exe process from within my VB program and also that how do I run the program in the console widow itself.
Presently I have only the editor ready. With that one can type in a program and save it with a ".c" extension. Now there are 2 buttons on my form - "Compile" and "Run". When the user clicks on the "Compile" button, the program should be passed to the cl.exe process and the errors should be displayed in another textbox or the DOS(black screen itself). And when the user clicks on the "Run" button, the ".exe" file which just got created should get executed.
Is there any way to attach some files along with my program so that the people who do not have "C" installed in their computers can also edit, compile and run C programs using my application?

I'm trying to make a vb.net application that has got 2 textboxes, 7 radio buttons and 2 buttons(one named compile and the other 'run'). How can I load the content of a C/C++(or any programming language) file into the 1st textbox and on clicking the compile button, i should be able to show the errors or the C/C++ program in the 2nd textbox. On clicking Run, I should be able to show the output in the 2nd textbox. In short, I want to use the 2nd textbox as a terminal/console. The radio buttons are 4 selecting the language C or C++ or python or C# or java or perl or vb.Are the compilers of all these languages present in .net? If so how can I call them?

I have a "ClickOnce" application and on the Splash screen I display the Version. I am also displaying the "CreationTime" (see below) that I thought was when the Build or Publish was done. Today I realized it is displaying the date/time when the application is actually installed on the PC. How do I pull the date when the this version was compiled, Built, or Published? I really do not care which -I just want a constant date the sticks with that version. I'm using VB 2005.

I have an application that I'm creating that uses VB6 for the maintenance programs, and visual studio 2005 to create the reports. At work we use reporting services to host the reports, but in my application I want to run the report from a menu within the application, not in reporting services. (A) Is this possible? I think I've read about a report viewer that can be embedded into .net applications. If I create a menu system in .net, that shells to execute the maintenance programs that are from vb6, or fires off the report viewer, does this sound feasible? The application is supposed to run connected to their SQL 2005 server via a VPN; I get blank looks when I ask them if they have reporting services installed...

I created a vb.net 2008 application to windows 7 with some functions that monitor a folder within "Programs". Folder you created during installation of this application. But every time you launch the software (the exe, after installing the client package) I get UAC and I ask for confirmation. I tried to edit the manifest (with admin user) but it always comes out. I would like to depart immediately launch the EXE application, without uac.

I am sure this can be done, as Visual Studio is basically built this way. What I want to do is simply make a class that my other workmates can use. But rather than have it in a code form, I want to build it (partially), and then my workmate can add it into their programs (sort of, like the add reference for the .NET stuff).

When you've finished a program and you're trying to distribute it to the mass public. How is the best way to go about doing this? What sites would you post your program on and getting the word out that there is a new program on the block and it does xyz. This is directed to freeware so there wouldn't be any advertising.
Sorry for not explaining it very well the first time.

I have a Linq-to-SQL class diagram in my web application containing the two tables in my database (held in a DBPro database project in the same solution). All was working fine yesterday. I start doing some work tonight and note that the solution compiles fine in Visual Studio, but when I run the web app I get a compilation error:

I have developed a small application with VB.Net 2010 Express Edition. After that using the project properties I have generated setup files to give others to use it. when other users installed that application, the installed files are not located at C:/Program
Files but the files are at C:/Documents and settings/Local Setting/.......................... But anyway to uninstall, the application appears on "AddorRemove Programs". That's good part of it.
Why the installtion files are not comes under C:/Program Files? How to control the Installation Process? Is that because of Express Edition?

I got a situation where I have a group of projects in a solution. All the projects are dll's except one - which is an exe. When I run the project, it compiles all the dll's except one of them - for some reason this dll needs to be manually compiled.
I have my options set to save projects on run and to build projects that are out of date. This works for all my other dll's except this one.
Do I have something set wrong in this particular dll?

I have a small form program that is basically an interface for installing different software packages so that we can distribute a CD with our products that our customers can just pop in the drive, autorun, and click the button to install what they need. The problem that I am running into is unlike when I had built this same program in VB6, the program rewritten in VB.net will not run on some machines, and shows me an error: .net Framework initialization error. required version of .net framework v2.0.50727.
I realize that it is asking for that version of .net framework in order to run, but what I would really like to know is if there is a way to make my exe non-dependant on this so that it will run on any machine. Requiring my customers to install .net framework in order to access an interface designed just to idiotproof the installation of some setup files and provide easy access to a few pdf's really would just defeat the purpose.
