Apply OpenFileDialog Function To A WebApplication?

I am devoloping a Web Application, in which one Page has some neccessity that User should select any folder in the System and for ex if he selects ex:D:xyz, then this Path should be Saved in Database, I have written the Code for Storing in to Database and Remaining Every thing. But actually i think that if it is like a Browse Button click function to select the Folder, what i have made is, as i dont know how to make it in Web Application simply i used a textbox to be able to user to type the Path.

I am using the open file dialog box. Right now the function looks like
Private Function OpenFileDialog1_FileOK(...)
File_Path_Name = OpenFileDialog1.Filename.ToString()
End Function
The thing is it isn't clear when this is called. I think it is called when I go through
OpenFileDialog1.ShowDialog()
I want to return a value that is the Filename path to a variable like
file_path = Function()
and not use a global variable. But it doesn't seem like this is possible. Do you know how to get the function OpenFileDialog to return the file path?

I'm doing a project now. I'm having a problem on getting specific file type from my computer using the .getfiles function.
Here's my codes.

What I wanted to happen is when the openfiledialog prompted and once I've selected the file, the file information I've specified above must show on the application as a label. But nothing appears. The file name only appears on the text box beside the open button. It should also appear above the button and the text box as a label. How could i possibly do that? And how could I select just one file at a time from a folder with 150 other files in it? When I use getFiles, it only gets all at the same time everything that's in the folder even if i've only just selected one file.

Reading about singletons classes/pattern gave me a pretty good idea for its use. But would it be a good practice to store user related variables in properties of a thread safe singleton class so i can access them by chaining?
Example
When a user logs in several variables will be assigned to a session variable like:
Session("UserID") = reader("UserID")
Session("AccessLevels") = reader("Accesslevels")
Session("UserName") = reader("UserName")
...
Now when working on my webapplication i could always access these values by calling the session() variable, but the chance to forget the session keys or erroneous write them down is significantly. So again would it be good to store these session variables in readonly properties of singleton class so I can access them like:
MySingleton.ID
MySingleton.Accesslevels
MySingleton.UserName

I am newbie programmer and I have one query for inventory control system. Initially I was planning to develop a stand-alone application, but then client added one more requirement. He wants his application should run on server, so that he can access it from anywhere in the world. Thus, I am unable to decide whether to go for stand-alone application or web application. im using form with browse button and openfileDialog as a browse function how do i get it to return the full path of the image selected to a varibal EG File then a textbox on form EG txt_pic.txt = File also how can i set it so it only allows images EG jpg bmp png gif and ico and nothing else then how would i code it so it adds the image selected to the Resorces folder so it can be used again with out browsing for it i also want a combobox that displays all images in the resorce folder?

I want to make an numerical integration method with takes in an analytic function and integrate it over a specific interval. For the numerical integration procedure I want to use some procedures in nr.com. The problem is that these are programmed in C++ and they uses functors to pass a function to the integration method. How can I do this in VB 2010?
I want to initialize the function (i.e. set a=1,b=0 for function y(x)=a*x+b) and then pass the function to the integration method. Then when the integration method call the function it only calls the function with one parameter (i.e. x since a,b is already set)
What is the best way to do this in VB2010?I want to make a general integration method where I can pass any single valued function and integration limits.
I have just started using VB, and from what I have found so far it seems like the tools you have is
- to us a delegate for the function
- to use a lambda expression for the function
- send a pointer/adressOf
- to create a function class/structure and submit this to the function
As for now I am most inclined to create a function-class. But I am not really sure how.F.ex. I make different classes for each "uniqe function" I want to integrate, but how can I pass them to the integration function when I need to specify the argument type in the integration-function-call?This seems like a basic problem which applies to many Math operations, so I think it would be very useful to clarify this.

I code GUIs in .NET frequently, and most of them only have the value of being a GUI, e.g. they don't do anything otherwise impossible. So most of the development goes to making them friendly, intuitive and eye-candy.Then it comes to my mind it would be simply amazing to skin them through .msstyles files, since there are so many places to find those files, and also tools to make your own.And some of those msstyles are just stunning, probably not for your whole desktop, but for styling homemade apps it would be perfect.

I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for

I have a 2d array and I want to do a calculation on each element in the array and then return the index which results in the smallest value.
I have tried iterating through each element in the 2d array and running the calculation. If the calculated result is smaller than the currently stored minimum I set that to the minimum.
This works but it runs so slowly it makes the solution a non starter. It performs each calculation quickly but because of the number of elements in the array the calculation for the whole array is stupidly long.

Is there a way to apply any changes made to an entire application and not just the open (active) form that you are in? I.E. I change the backcolor to a color from a color dialog. I want that chosen color to be applied to all the forms' backcolor in my project. Can this also then be applied to all the other controls' backcolor? The code that I posted works but all forms and controls have to have the changes applied to each one separately.

I just want to verify something. I believe it is likely that if I apply the using command to a SqlDataReader, that it will both close the data reader and dispose of it. For example:
Using sdr As SqlDataReader = cm.ExecuteReader()

Will that close the sdr SqlDataReader after it exits the Using code block. (I believe it will, but just want to verify.)
