I'm facing a problem with my current member card reader development.
I'm reading the card number (just a serial number of 4 digits) with a card reader. this seems to work fine (even converting the text string to integers).
This number is then put in a query to find the exact record that corresponds with this number
i saw jim example in the codebank and i added the percent progress parameter to report progress method (to change the progress bar value)this is jim example:-
vb.net Private Sub BackgroundWorker1_DoWork(ByVal sender As Object, _ ByVal e As DoWorkEventArgs) Handles BackgroundWorker1.DoWork
I have a form that asks for a name, and a phone number, it has 3 buttons, a add customer button, show list button and an exit button. When the add customer button is clicked, it increments intCustomer variable, formats the phone number, makes sure only the first letters of the name are capitalized and creates an ID that is the first 4 letters of the name plus the customer number, the show list button takes ALL customers added to the array and displays them into a multi-line text box, like so:
ID Num Customer Name Phone Number JOHN-1 John Harry Peters (111) 111-1111 Paul-2 Paul J Rodgers (111) 111-1111 Etc...
The area where I am completely lost in, is how to add the consecutive customers to the array, in the correct way. here is my code in its entirety
Public Class frmCustomerName Dim intCustomer As Integer = 1 Dim names(9, 2) As String
I am learning visual basic .net and I am attempting to translate some java source code to a vb.net project. The project reads mp3 details and then splits the file accurately according to the frameheader details etc.
I'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. The code I have so far is listed below. But when it hits the memo field, it crashes on the line I marked with **. I know it's not text, but I've tried many different field types, but nothing has worked so far.[code]...
I have to submit a HTML form to a 3rd party website and one of the hidden fields is an XML string. The XML needs escaping before it is sent to the 3rd party.
However when I add the plain XML to the form field it semi-escapes it for me. So then when I use HTMLEncode myself part of the XML is double-escaped. How do I prevent the automatic escaping that appears to becoming from .NET.
Or even better how else can send the escaped XML via the hidden field.
I have a multiline textbox that has wordwrap set to True I am assigning each line of the textbox to a string Lets say I typed this into the textbox without pressing enter and it just wordwrapped to the next line Visual Programming is fun it would assign "Visual Programming is fun" to the first string however, what i want it to do is assign "Visual Programming is" to the first string and "fun" to the second string.....now if i would have pressed enter after "is" then it would have done what I wanted it to do, but if i dont press enter and just let it word wrap it does not do what i want it to do...

I have been using VB a fair bit in the past developing a Access Database, recently I wanted to give my front end interface a bit more power so I have started learning VS 2010.
Anyways, I am still using Access for my databases and i am having a bit of trouble working with the data in VS 2010, what i would like is the following:
A way to form a string or integer from a SQL query (from a single field or multiple on that row) assuming the query will always return one row.
Then a way to write string or integer variables back in to db fields.
example:
Dim cn As New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|ItemRegisterDB.mdb") Dim cmd As New OleDb.OleDbCommand With {.Connection = cn, .CommandText = "select * from tblItemregister where ItemID = 1"}
[Code]....
Example = ??? 'What would i need here to copy fields from that row to string?

txtlocated is the id of the HTML textbox. I want to assign the value of the textbox to the string loc. When i debug it the loc is shown as null the textbox value is not passed into the string.
I am using the code shown below to compare two Access databases with two fields each and write the results to a third Access database. I am getting an error at the "Do While DMReader02.Read = True" line: "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." Why would the reader be closed at this point if I am using different DataReaders in the two loops?
want to update values in an xml file. When users select the xml file, the form binds controls to a dataset. After updating some/all values, the changes are saved. It works for every field except for a calculated value.
How do I make a connection between a button and textbox when using windows form applications. In other words, if a button is clicked on, how do I assign it to read that certain textbox where the information was entered?
When the form loads it reads from an embedded resource file that loads the data into variables. It then uses mid(variable,1,1) to load a single value into a textbox. It does this for a total of up to ten textboxes. Sometimes all the values show up sometimes some, sometimes none.
I have a WinForms app with a multi-line textbox. This displays and retains (after loading from the DB) line break characters fine. However if I assign the TextBox.Text value to a string variable and then re-assign the variable back to the TextBox.Text property, the line break characters are lost and replaced with a square character (can't past them here as they just paste as a line break!)
I need a good book for beginning to use VB 2008. I have some (limited) experience in using VBA. I want to access a database (SQL) and have access to the data set as variables?
I'm trying to pull all records and fields from a MS Access table. My fields are: numOne, operator, numTwo and result. I'd like to display those fields in a listbox as the following output: 1(numOne) +-/*(operator) 2(numTwo) = 3(result) or simply 1 + 2 = 3. I was able to get some coding going. The problem that I have is that I'm not finding a way to add the fields on the same line, since I can find the right syntax to have all fields added together.
Dim ConnString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:UsersLeo DaCostaDesktopAPUVB AdvancedDaCosta Weeks 5-6MathOp.accdb" Dim mySelectQuery As String = "SELECT * FROM MathOp" Dim myConnection As New OleDbConnection(ConnString)
I am trying to enter a record into an Access database via visual basic programatically.I had this working fine when I had the datagrid bound to the database but now I have decided to do it all at runtime to save on resources at runtime. When I unbound everything and tried running it with my existing code
Try ds.Tables( "tblProduction").Rows.Add(row)
[code]....
This is the line of code that has to have another 30 entries in it.
Does anyone know how to sum fields in ms access using SQL and then place it in datagridview? I have a ms access table with fields 'Points' and 'FacultyID'. I would like to know how to sum all values on 'Points' field and place it in datagridview. Also, I would like to know how to filter values from 'Points' based on selected 'FacultyID'.
I have been tasked with writing a program for our yearly reviews. We want all of the information gathered in the form to be submitted to an access database. I have created the form and the database. I can send info to the database but it is put on a new line everytime it is submitted. I would like to check the first column of the table to see if the user login is already there. If it is there I would like to update the information. If it is not there I would like to create a new row. This seems simple, but I can not figure out how to see if the user login is already there.[code]...
