Is HelpStudio Lite still the tool of choice for developing a basic help system for VS 2010? The only mention of this that I can find is in the MSDN library; [url] and it references VS 2008. I just need something basic and (hopefully) free and of course it should not become obsolete anytime soon.

View 3 RepliesIam developing a Windows application using Visual Basic 2008 with a SQL Server database. Throughout the program I give the user as many options as possible and have no problem with either the database or the windows forms. The program does not initially require a Login and I want toprovide the User with the opportunity to add a Login to the system. The default Login form is perfectly satisfactory.
The problem is that I can't figure out how to program the change sothat the Login from isopens the program rather then th form designated as the StartUp form. this forum I am able to prgrammatically change the form but I can't figure out how to make the requirement a permanent factor. I tried using a Constant, but if the User wants to change, you can't change the constant. Its an apparantly simple yes/no situation but if I set a varable to yes and then change it to no the next time the program runs, the change will be lost.
i am developing a system will be able to detect motion. up to now i am able to stream the video that is connected to my PC to VB.NET. Now i want to switch between the webcam if there is more than one webcam connected to the system. For example, the user of the system will be able to chose any webcam that is connected to the system. I am able to detect all the webcam and display those devices into a ListView. But i don't know how to change the steaming video when the user select the device. Now the video screen show the image form the default webcam.

I'll try to keep this as brief as possible so if additional info is need just let me know.I'm developing an Winforms based event tracking system using VB.Net (VS 2008 Pro). The application collects data via serial bar code scanners and stores this data within a MS SQL Express db located on the same Windows XP Pro workstation that the application is installed on. When the application receives the formatted string of data it checks the db table and sends a reply back to the device indicating whether the data is a duplicate. I have written a PortManager class to handle the serial based devices and this functionality is working well.
I have now been asked to incorporate a new type of collection device into the system. The new device is running embedded Linux and uses TCPIP (POE) rather than serial communication. The device manufacture has assured me he can provide a string from the devices integrated scanner in the same format as my serial based devices.
If possible, I would like to utilize the current application and just add the ability to use the TCPIP devices to it. I was thinking it might be possible to just add a new class (similar to my Port Manager class) to handle the TCPIP based devices.I'm really at a loss as to the best way to approach this. I'm just not that familiar with collecting data from a Winforms application using a TCPIP based device.
am developing an inventory management system. have two listview controls. one for ITEM and another for details pertaining date, quantity, cost, issued to and so on. i want a vb.net code that if a given item in listview A is clicked, listview B details are cleared and then the details of that item are loaded and displayed on listview B.there is no criteria of loading like between a range of dates; just all records in the database.

The database is relational, yet I haven't grasped the best architecture to make an application to interact with it. I tough doing a Business layer with a domain model would work. Now I know the easy way to achieve my goal would be to use the timer object in Visual Studio. The problem I ran into is I was developing an automated command line program. As such there was nothing I could attach the timer to (that I'm aware of). I just needed to pause the program for a few seconds to allow the DTSX package (SSIS file if you're not familiar) to load the file before I remove it from the staging folder.
While I was doing research for this issue I came across the old Sleep() function (referenced to a library in kernel32 as I understand it...never used this before either). When I tried to use this on my current system (64-bit system) I received stack overflow errors. Additional research lead to something called wow64, but I did not have enough time to fully research what this is / how to use it.
I am developing a chat application using online connection to a mysql databbase. But i am facing a problem. After 10 minutes, MySQL closes all the chat connections because of the 600 seconds timeout (has been set by the host service i am using). I don't understand why is that happening cause every piece of my code which needs data from the database opens and closes the connection (i mean that it dosn't maintain the connection after the query's execution). If i .close() and .dispose() the connection, it still appears in mysql at sleep mode (it terminates only if i exit the program).

If I change something in my visual basic, and start debugging, nothing changes to the program I made. Wether I save or not, it's just always the same.
Secondly, I would be very glad if somebody could give me the codes for a
"Create User" button. So it saves in C:Program FilesAcc.txt
And if you created one, you can login with it after that.
I've got an MDI form with a menustrip that already detects all .dll files in a folder and adds them to the menu to show the user which plugins are available. The thing is that I don't know what to do from here on out...
I'd like to be able to update my program without having to stifle through all my code (it's a very big program) and be able to create basic new features through external DLLs. It's extremely useful for users to make their own features too
Anyway, what a plugin would look like is most likely just a form with controls on it that the user makes themselves in VB. I'd like the plugin to activate through an init() sub within the plugin by clicking on the menu item shown in my MDI form.
I kind of started with my own code but it didn't really get anywhere:

I have written a code to draw some graphic, just a basic house, tree, sun etc. I have also written a code to magnify said graphics which were all the specifications of my Assignment 1 part A.
