View 2 RepliesI made a change to a project and hve induced a major problem. I have warnings and errors now, but I can still debug the project with the "last successful build" Iwould like to just revert everything to that build but I can't find a way to eliminate the problems I induced or find a way to go to a earlier build. Hopefully I can get back to an earlier version or I will loose the entire project as I can no longer get to the designer.

View 3 RepliesIn my computer excel 2003 is installed. My code runs well in my computer but failed in another computer which only has excel 2007. If I want to make my code still functions in excel 2007, I heard of that something like late binding but I haven't experienced with that and not sure.
View 9 RepliesI have a form and I drag and drop a control in VB.NET. I have a line say,
private WithEvents radioButton RadioButton
Also, I have a handler like,
private void click(.....) Handles radioButton.Click {
...
}
Now, When I build this is .NET 3.5 in release mode, and see the generated code in reflector tool, the code is something like:
Private Overridable Property radioButton As RadioButton
.
.
.
<AccessedThroughProperty("radioButton")> _
Private _radioButton As RadioButton
And how do I avoid the generation of new properties and fields?
I am trying to create an autoupdater for my application, and I came up with an idea to use the "After build" event to export the application version to txt file.Just a simple txt file with lets say "1.0.1" in it.
View 2 RepliesDue to the July 13 end of life support for IE6 minus SP3, I am planning on checking the build version of the browser once logging in. I am able to return the browser major and minor versions but cannot find a way to get to the build/patch version which tells what SP the user has. I need to confirm the user is using an IE version higher than 6.00.2900.5512.
View 9 RepliesI would like to build a text string that is the build version of my program. In VB6 I would use the values retrieved from App.Version.Major/Minor. I have looked for something similar in VS2010 VB but unable to find it. I did find information on the .NET framework, but I am looking for a build version of my program.
View 3 RepliesI've got vb Express and want to increase the version of the build file automatically. I know it can auto change the publish-version, but i never publish files. I use the build option and get the application at: ...Visual Studio 2008ProjectsWindowsApplication1WindowsApplication1inRelease. So how can vb increase the revision or build number automatically?
View 2 RepliesI'm developing application that is plugable. The plugins are loaded via Assembly.LoadFrom(). In my solution I have 4 projects. A WPF, 2 DLL and another DLL that is a plugin for the app. The plugin project references one of the other DLLs. When I build the Solution and run I was getting an error trying to use the plugin dll because it was expecting an older version of the referenced project. I had to clean and rebuild the plugin project to get it to run correctly.

I am using 8 different vb projects in one solution, beside this I am also using one 3rd party control ion all the projects, while compiling the application it takes around 5 minutes to build the project, While building the application I have observe that it uses lc.exe file which is used for "Reads text files that contain licensing information and produces a .licenses file that can be embedded in a common language run time executable." at this point it takes too much time.
View 1 RepliesWe're using team build with AssemblyInfoTask to increment the build number in a nightly build. The build number is displayed in the application using My.Application.Info.Version.Build.This has been working fine for years. But since we branched the sources and started using file references instead of project references (have no idea if that's what causes the problem), the last build number is displayed instead of the current one.
The compiled files (dll's and exe's) have the correct build number, if checked by right clicking the file in Explorer and viewing detailed properties. However when the same exe-file is executed, the UI displays the previous build number.If I edit the AssemblyInfo.vb file manually (just set another number, save the file, and set it back again), both file properties in Explorer and the UI at runtime displays the correct build number. How can this happen? What can be done to avoid this strange behavior?
Every time I compile a new release build in vb.net 2009, the file version number of my main exe is correct, but the assembly version number is the same as the last build instead of the current version even though I manually change the file and assembly version in the design studio to be the same prior to compiling.The only way I can get the assembly version to be correct is to close Visual Studio and delete the obj folder. Then if I open the solution and recompile, all is well.
Here is the information copied from the About box in VS:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008
Version 9.0.30729.1 SP
Microsoft .NET Framework

View 1 RepliesI am using vs 2003 to build a setup project but got this error message"Could not find file ..., Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."I checked the path of the file, it is correct. After I remove this file from the setup project, I can build it successfully and the result msi file is about 250MB, the file I removed is about 260MB, is there any limitation about the size of the file in setup project or the total size of msi file? If so, how can I build the setup project?
View 19 RepliesIs there a way to make the express version do a "clean build"?
Some of my project compilations have developed a problem which prevents debugging.
"The breakpoint that isn't working will display a message if highilighted with the mouse. The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."
The difference I've seen between the project folders for an app that will debug vs one that will not debug is that there is no ".pdb" file in the folder where the application to be debugged is running.Debug (F5) or "Build" no longer create this file.
Many of the discussion participants suggest deleting the "obj" and "bin" folders before compiling - on the assumption that this will "force" a "clean build" - is that supposed to be true? My express version has no "clean build" option, and deleting the obj and bin folders doesn't cuase them to be completely rebuilt.
Is "msbuild" the only way to force a complete build when you have the express version?
Also - how do I determine/control which net framework vision vs2010 express is using?[code]...

View 2 RepliesI added a setup project to a winform vb.net app which otherwise builds fine. Once the setup project is added to the solution, however, the build fails with the following error;Unrecoverable build error.As there does not seem to be much information I can't figure what the problem is. View 3 RepliesIn VB.NET, my application is quite simple, and it accesses many images and creates a list with them.The images are in my application's Resources folder.The images are accessed in my code where I typed the path, in my PC, how to reach said folder.Works like a charm, my project displays the images etc.Now I go to Debug->Build.Now I go to the bin folder, release folder, and find my application. I upload it.I share the download to a friend.My question is, will the images my application should show will appear? Considering the path I created in the code was manually written?

I have written a small VB.NET simulation program that uses an XML file to configure the simulation. I want to include this file in the project build so that when the application is installed, there will be a default XML file in the required directory.
When I do the Project Publish (within VB 2010 Express), there is no option for including any extra data files in the process.
Is it possible to do this with VB 2010 Express ... or should I try some other project builder/installer.
In my project properties I have the version/build numbers automatically incrementing... I'm on 1.0.0.16.
The problem is that with each new/updated installation, my build numbers aren't changing... even though my project properties page shows the appropriate version/revision incrementing. I created the installer project at version 1.0.0.13. Although I'm now at 1.0.0.16, My "About" form still shows 1.0.0.13.
I do not hard-code the version in this form... I use the following
Me.LabelVersion.Text = String.Format("Version {0}", My.Application.Info.Version.ToString)Hope this isn't too vague. The installer project creates a setup.exe and setup.msi file. When I publish my solution is also creates a setup.exe file.
How they relate and differ from each? What are the best practices for version control? Is there a primer about publish online? Or a good book?
And is it possible to make ClickOnce and a msi in one solution of VS 2008? If so, is there any conflict or pitfall?
BTW I am using VB if that makes any difference.
In Visual basic 6 I often use Flexgrid component, I see that in VB.NET these components are not available. Component should I use instead of Flexgrid. What do I need to call Flexgrid componet (VB6 Version) into the project. NET from COM.
View 4 RepliesI am using VB.NET 2008 Express Edition and INNO Setup. When I create a setup and run it, the resulting install is an older version of my project from, I think, 2 or 3 days ago. If I go back to my project in the developer window and run the project, it is clearly a newer version than the install. Since this installed version that comes up was done I have added a form and made many other changes.Is it because the build didn't exeucte? When you run the project doesn't it execute a build every time?I tried this again from a backup. (The backup is much more recent than the version I'm getting.) And it still does the same thing.Why does the install not match the project? It is not possible to go into the project and add the changes because they are already there.
