Best Approach To Store Node Coordinate Data

Dec 24, 2009

I have a question on the best way to store model data for my app. My app will basically be drawing a bunch of elements (lines) connected to a node at each end. Im trying to decide how im going to store my node data (as well as element data). The node data im trying to store will consist of the node XYZ coordinates and some other info about the node. The element data will consist of the node numbers at each end plus additional info about the element. There a number of ways i've been thinking i can do this. They are:

1) Store my node/element data as a Dictionary object, where the key represents the node/element, and the value would be an array of the information i want to store.

2) Create a "Node" structure and an "Element" structure to store the info i want. Im a bit worried here as my model could potentially have thousands of nodes and elements.

3) Create a "Node" datatable and an "Element" datatable, and store my info in those instead. I can see some advantages in this in regards to displaying information to the user in datagridview etc. But then again i can easily pull the required data from a method i mentioned above, and generate the datatable when required.

Not quite sure what the best approach is. Either way i do it, i will be serializing whatever object i use to save the data to disk.

Best Approach For Data Manipulation?

Jul 28, 2009

I understand that there are several ways of Inserting, Updating and Deleting records in a database such as DataAdapters, DataSets, TableAdapters, SqlCommandBuilders, Parameterized SqlCommands, StoredProcedures, etc, etc, etc. According to David Sceppa Sprocs are the most preferred. Ok, I go with him on this one (who am I to challenge him anyway?).

My question is, apart from Sprocs, which of these options is the BEST for a large commercial database application and why, taking performance into account? What are the benefits and drawbacks of each option?

Treeview Node Content - Create Class And Use Array To Store The Contain In The Respective Nodes?

Apr 18, 2011

I've a treeview in my project form which look like this.

-Cover Page
-Video1
-Podcast1[code].....

The user will be able to upload their pages to the respective pages nodes and I am suppose to make it in such a way that after the user uploaded the cover page which is showing at the PictureBox1 which I've use to display the image, and when he uploads the second page image at the PictureBox1, the Cover page image that he uploaded earlier on will not be overwrite.

I was told to create class and use array to store the contain in the respective nodes but I do not have any idea how to do it.

Design Approach For Utilizing Data From A Database

Nov 6, 2011

There exists a database that holds information on each planet in the solar system. The database has multiple tables. The program intends to access this data to display it to the user in a variety of manners. The program does not intend to manipulate the data at its source, though calculations on two fields may be performed to determine certain display characteristics. What is the optimal method for accessing the data?My initial approach, (read: gut feeling, no research) was to take each related row of data from the database and create an object of a custom class based on the data. So you might wind up with:[code]Then use these objects to perform whatever actions the program needed to. I ran into a lot of problems trying to implement this, so that I believe my design approach is fundamentally flawed.

Fast Update Of Bitmap From Polar Coordinate Data?

Sep 7, 2011

I am producing a marine radar display in VB.Net and struggling to get the radar data to display quickly enough. The data is coming into my application from a callback from the radar maker's dll. Each dataset consists of an integer between 0 and 8191 denoting the angle from the datum (ship's head) that the dataset represents and a byte array with 480 elements containing data from ship's position (byte 0) to maximum range (byte 480). Each of these locations is a single byte, I want to set both red and green components of the relevant pixel in a 1000 x 1000 bitmap to this byte value. The dataset number increments round from 0 to 8191 as the radar scanner rotates.

My first approach was to use math.sin and math.cos to convert polar coordinates to cartesian coordinates, and then use setPixel to set the colour of the relevant pixels but this is far too slow.I'm now trying to use Boop Boops 'FastPix'

[URL]

Which looks like it should be much better, but I am wondering if there is a more efficient approach, for example cutting out the polar to cartesian conversion, or putting the data direct into a byte array?I am also running the radar picture processing code on a thread separate to the UI thread to keep the UI responsive - what is the best way to display the resultant bitmap onto the UI? I am currently using a delegate and putting the bitmap into a picturebox?

InputBox Function - Program - Allow User To Input 5 Payrolls For Store 1, Store 2, And Store 3

Mar 22, 2012

I am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.

So far I have this --

XML 6.0 SP2 - Create A Small Backup Before Data Is Syncronized To A Data Store?

Feb 14, 2011

I have an application that uses Dataset.WriteXML to create a small backup before data is syncronized to a data store (less than a meg). This application has worked well for 5 years now, and all of a sudden with the installation of XML 6.0 SP2 the XML document is not working correctly.I have multiple tables within a Dataset (Company, Contact, Notes, etc...)When WriteXML is called, the first table should be Company, however, the first table is being named Contact with the Company Data in it. The Notes table is being called Contact and so forth. In other words it's not giving the correct names to the tables in the XML File. This appears to be a bug, which is causing great distress on all the companies who have been using this program.
