Instead of showing read data in datagridview, i'd want to read the data from xml file into one dimensional array: X(Impedances) Or is there a way to read value from this datatable into string variable without getting data from datagridview? The point is: i'd want to scan through all "Impedance" values (which are read from xml file) and compare with value y to catch the nearest value to y. How to do that?

Nov 23, 2011At the moment I am using Access & an OleDb connection to store data. I went down this route originally because I though that this was the best way for applications that I am distributing to my clients.
I would prefer to use something like SQL Server but is this a good idea for software I am distributing? Does the average Joe's PC have SQL Server pre-installed? If not, I suppose I can provide them with a link to download it for free?
Is there any better alternatives to Access / SQL Server?

Mar 22, 2012I am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.

the w.write(?) stores a boolean value meaning 0/1 for false/true values, but Vb.net seems to use an whole byte to store this data which is too expensive for my table (3.268.760^2).Is there a pratical way to store/retrive single bits from a file using vb.net? Feb 14, 2011I have an application that uses Dataset.WriteXML to create a small backup before data is syncronized to a data store (less than a meg).This application has worked well for 5 years now, and all of a sudden with the installation of XML 6.0 SP2 the XML document is not working correctly.I have multiple tables within a Dataset (Company, Contact, Notes, etc...)When WriteXML is called, the first table should be Company, however, the first table is being named Contact with the Company Data in it. The Notes table is being called Contact and so forth. In other words it's not giving the correct names to the tables in the XML File.This appears to be a bug, which is causing great distress on all the companies who have been using this program.

Dec 17, 2010I am using data annotations to validation my class properties. A requirement has emerged to store the validation error messages in an external file from which they would be loaded into memory at runtime.I thought I'd be able to load a colleciton of error messages from an XML file and then set ErrorMessage:=[StringVariableHere] ... but apparently that doesn't work as you need to use a constant value.If I store the errormessages in a Resource.resx file then those error messages are compiled into the project and can't be loaded at runtime - or am I wrong?

Oct 17, 2011I have a USB device which creates a Virtual Serial Port on Windows. I am using VB.Net to write and read from the port. My device responds with specific sized set of bytes, but I am finding that SerialPort.Read(byte-array,offset,number-bytes) does not return the full number-bytes but it also does not timeout or generate an exception. Repeated calls return additional fragments (up to 3 calls required). Python code using pySerial does not have the same problem.So, what am I doing wrong here? Am I expecting too much?
Some scenarios are:I write a command to the port and expect to get 4 bytes in response. I get 1 byte first and then 3 bytes on the subsequent call.I write a command and expect 21120 bytes in response. I get 1, 12671 and then 8448 bytes in 3 calls to read from the port.

App That Reads From The Com Port, Filters The Data, Then Writes To The Text Box?
Mar 15, 2009I am writing an app that reads from the com port, filters the data, then writes to the text box, then immediately starts over. This all takes place in an endless " do while" loop within the "start" button code. I also have a end button too which closes the com port and ends the program. Some other buttons are present also to change the filter settings.Problem is when I click start, data is logged, but none of the other buttons work. Also some of the text boxes are "see through" and dont look like thy have updated with the rest of the form.

Sep 29, 2009I need to get data from a text or excel file and input it into a windows program that I do not have source code for and cannot get it.What I am trying to do is get sales order data from one of our customers in a file and then read the file and input the order information into our sales order system by actually stepping through the order entry process so all the checks for item #'s, zip codes, etc that are already in the sales order entry software are utilized, basically so that data files integrity is maintained.
I am very green when it comes to programming, can anyone tell me if this can be done using vb.net or should I look into using another programming language.
