DB/Reporting :: Inserts Data To A Sql Server Db When It Receives Input?
Aug 25, 2008
I have an application that inserts data to a sql server db when it receives input. The problem is that i see many duplicate entries in the table. I have checked my code and it shouldn't do that:
Here is my problem. I'm not sure I am doing this correctly but I have two arrays [ strMonths(0) = "January"] etc. for each month and another one that receives input from the user concerning the amount of rainfall for a month. [decRainfall(0) = CDec(strMonths(0))] etc. for each subscript
The app. returns total rainfall for the year, average rainfall, maximum rainfall and minimum rainfall. The max. and min. should return the number that was input by the user and the month associated with that max. and min.I have everything working except for the month string being displayed (returned) after the max., min. number in the labels.
I am attempting to create an app that receives text input on a form and outputs to printer but I haven't any idea where to start for the coding. the form was relatively easy, now how to code. I have labels that give questions and 16 text boxes 5 list boxes and 10 check boxes to receive input from users how can I arrange the input into a paragraph and output to printer?
I have been having trouble finding a good way to do this. Basically what I need to do is take a query from a SQL Server Database and place it into a DataTable (or an array) for manipulation. I've got the connection and everything working, but none of the methods I've tried so far seem to work very well.I need it to compare data with an uploaded CSV file and post on a website.
I need to create a program that sends & receives data via rs232. I have done it many times in VB6 with easy.
Why is so hard in vs2008?
I managed to send (or so I think). Because I can see the LEDs flashing on my board connected to the pc. But I do not get any response back from the board.
The reason I do it in vs2008, is because I need the program to run on a PDA. But to understand how rs232 works in vs2008, I just created a simple program for the pc to talk to my board.
for example, I send:
SerialPort1.Write(Chr(2) & "I" & Chr(3)) and I expect back (into a textbox), a hex string 25 characters long.
The board also send data to rs232 sometimes, without me requesting it.
I have a combobox where the user can type the sql server name. Then a connect button that, when the user click, I want it to populate another combobox with all the databases from the server in the previous combobox. Unfortunately, I am getting the error object reference is not set....!
Here is where I am getting the error: For Each objDB As Database In Me.SMOServer.Databases I am new to VB ...I'm using vb2008 connecting to sql server 2005.
Here is my complete code: Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common Public Class Form1 'Public Class frmSQLConnection Private m_objServer As Server [Code] .....
I have three tables in my SQL Server DB. I need to import some CSV files into these tables. First table is a Order Table, which will contain all the order level information from that customer in that CSV File. Each order has multiple items and the second table is an item level data. Third table is a mapping table which shows the mapping for each customer . for a Customer say A ,
I've inherited a tested function that processes incoming data from a .NET Serial Port. (Dim RXBuffer as string = serialport1.ReadExisting) I've written a different part of the application that processes a byte array as received from an asynchronous .NET socket.
Is there a way I can convert the byte array into a string as if it arrived from the serial port?
I would prefer to rewrite a very long 'if statement' into byte array functions syntax that look like:
dim b as boolean = IsBitSet(state_buffer(i), j) 'rather than:
dim b as boolean = (Asc(Mid(RXPacket.Pdu, CInt((i - (i Mod 8)) / 8) + 1, 1)) And CInt(2 ^ (i Mod 8))) > 0
Option Strict On Public Class Form1 Private Sub btnDistance_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDistance.Click 'The btnEnterSpeed click event accepts and displays up to ten speeds from the user'and then calculates and displays average speed

I cannot figure out how to incorporate the number of days into the input box then get it to loop and count the number of times the User inputs in the number of days. Then I have to incorporate it into the equation to get the total distance D = MPH * Hours. What I have right now wil not count up the number of days and locks up after I input one number and will not add anything to the listbox. Because I also have to make sure that they cant add nonnumaric values and the number of hours per day cannot exceed 20. I have put things in and taken them out but it has been 2 days and I am lost now
how to input a data/value to excel through vb input form and get the data/value from excel back to the input form?? (For example: put a number into exel A1 from input form and get another number from ecel B1 bact to the input form)
I have an input parameter for my stored Proc, Instead of choosing available values from a drop Dwn, the customer wants an empty input box that when left blank returns all records. the parameter type is numeric(6,0) in the Db. I have not found a way to leave the input blank and retrieve all records. my default value for all records is '-99' and also is declared as the default value for the param in the proc.
I've been working on some code to add together input from an input box to make a string and display it in a message box. I've put the code in a loop so that it will add all input into the string until nothing is entered in the input box.
Dim stringInput As String Dim message As String Do Until stringInput = String.Empty
[Code].....
All I get is just the last input entered to show up in the message box and none of the previous entries. How do I get all the input to be added together and show up in the message box?
I have a vb.net program using the MS SQL 2005 Database.I use the SqlClient.SQLdataAdaptor to insert the records in DB.Whenever i load the program and then use the SqlClient.SQLdataAdaptor to insert record into DB for the 1st time, it will take longer time to load. But if I use the same SqlClient. SQLdataAdaptor to insert record into DB again immidately, it will take shorter time to load. However, if I wait for 5-10mins, then use the same SqlClient.SQLdataAdaptor to insert record into DB again, it will take longer time to load again. Can anyone tell me this loading is due to the SQL Server itself / the VB.net?Can anyone suggest me a way to check the reason of this loading? I'm new to VB, trying to learn how to connect to sql server. When running the code below I got this message from visual studio: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
I have a website that currently uses a MS Access database, but I have been asked to change it to an SQL Server DB. I used the upsizing wizard and have changed the association in the web site from c3.mdb to c3.adp but I get the error "unrecognized database format. I tried using the .mdf file
Code: Sub Application_Start(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) ' Fires when the application is started
I started coding my first "real" stand-alone desktop application in VB 2008 Express. I was led into believing that using SQL Express Compact Edition was the thing to use for my database since it would reside on each PC (laptops) that I installed the program on. I created all my tables and about 6 forms and all was going well until I came to the point where I need to display a grid showing data from multiple tables using what i think is supposed to be a view. Now the problem is that CE doesnt allow views. Here are my questions:
1. Can I convert my CE database file into an SQL Server Express file? 2. Do I have to re-write all my forms that are using the database? I am planning on creating my SQL Server Express database with the same table names and the same field names, data types, etc.
I'm trying to write code to create a new database and then create tables within the database. I'm running into a strange problem right now, which is the fact that I was able to create a new database ok on either the regular SQL Server instance, or the SQLEXPRESS instance. However, when I attempted to create a table, I got an error message saying that there is already a table of the same name.
When I tried to connect to the new database via SQL Server Management Studio, I could see the database. However, there are no tables in it! So, theoretically, I'm creating a brand new blank DB, so there should not be anything in this DB, right? and I should be able to create any tables I want in it!
Here is the code that I have so far: [code...]
I just have one simple form with a button on it. The click event on this button calls the CreateAllDBs() routine.
I use Ms VB 2008 express edition with SQL server express. I want to know what is the reference to be added to make a connection the SQL express database?
I'm a newbie on the above title. I have read some documentations out there on the net but I feel I could learn more through a working sample.where I could set as a reference on developing or implementing sql server notification services in vb.net?
The following code works fine. However, it only inserts on TextBox1, one filename. I would like to be in aposition to add more than one filename. Can anyone please tell me how I can achieve that.. code below; Private Sub BtnFolder_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnFolder.Click
I'm at an absolute loss here, I've read so many different things.I just want to add new records to a database I created using SQL Server 2008 with SQL statements in Visual Basic Express 2008. But I can't even connect/get it to recognise the database I created.The database name is 'database.mdf' and is situated in the MSSQL/DATA folder. So far I've read I need to use this code;
