I have just started with vb and would like to know if there is a way to input several boxes of data on one form and display individual pieces of that data on several other forms at timed events in the future?
View 1 RepliesI have a data set with a parent child relationship between a patient table and an insurance table. There can be up to 4 insurances for each patient. I want to display them in 4 separate panels of a vb.net form. So if a patient had 2 insurances, then txtName1.text on panel 1 would have the company name of the first insurance, txtName2.text on panel 2 would hold the company name of the second insurance, and so on.
How do I display only the insurances related to the current patient? I've tried moving through the rows of the related table, but that gives me all the rows, not the ones I need. Everything I see on the internet suggest using a datagrid, but that's not an option in this case.
i can get this program to read the file but i now want to be able to call on the file from another form and use specific pieces of data for login verification and balance handling purposes.

I have designed my form like this it has a combo box and several text boxes. In the form load I want to load the customer IDs of my customer table into my Combo box.Customer IDs data type is varchar and this part is working in my form.The next thing that I want to do is if a user select a single user ID from the combo box I need to display the first name last name and there are several fields of that selected customer id in the text boxes.If anyone can help me in this it'll be a great help.I have designed my data base in sql server 2008 and I'm using visual studio 2008.I added a new sqldata adapter and I created the data set.But I want to know how to pass the selected id of the combo box as the select parameter of sql statement and how to bind data to the text boxes.

View 4 RepliesI'm developing a windows forms application using VB.NET. I'm currently working on DataReport (by Microsoft, not Crystal). Everything works fine when using DataSet as DataSource. But I have a question on how am I going to put data to my DataReport from a user input? Preferably when the user is on the act of printing(clicking the print button in the ReportViewer), a Form will pop-up and ask him for input. That input I'm talking about is random names of people, and we don't have to track their names so there's no reason to put it on the database.
Here's my simple setup:

If it is impossible to do it on the act of printing. Maybe on the MainForm_Load event or before the generation of report can do.

I've got a big database driven project...15 forms 50+ input boxes and im wondering how to do it effieciently. I've got code to connect to the mysql databse but i dont want to put it inside each form over and over for every form. How can i do it so that i only have to clal one method to connect to the db or leave the db connected constantly from the start of the app. here is the code that i got to put in every form -_-

In vb.net what is the best way to collect data using a form and updating a db table? I can collect the data and use the various field validators but cannot see how to update a database with it.

I have made a small program that reads the input of a joystick/GamePad and passes it on to a serial port. It works great I can see all the buttons pressed ect ( in a textbox). But When I minimize the form and press some buttons they are no longer passed on to the serial port and not shown into the textbox?

I need to display on the form which directory is being processed. Similar to if we use the Debug.writeline which writes to the output in Visual Studio. I have 5 combo boxes that need to show the same list of items that come from a single dataset table. I have managed to bind the datatable to the combo boxes no problem at all.. but when I run the application and select an item from one of the combo boxes all the others change to the item I selected. After some research I believe that this problem is something to do with using the one datasource so I have tried assigning the dataset datatable to 2 different variables and used them as datasources for 2 of the comboboxes but the same still happens.
A work around to this I can see is to call the same methods and SQL select statements 5 times over to get individual datasources for each combo box but this doing that sounds crazy to me. how I can get around this easily? Code snippet below shows 2 combox boxes and their datasources. I'm using VS2005, .Net 2

i have a access database with two tables, one for customer and one for booking.
I then have a form application i made in VS 2008 which lets a user enter details such as their name phone number ect into text boxes.
All of the information the person enters thoughout the program is shown via labels at the end, all on one form.
Would it be possible to then have a button that when clicked saves all of this information into the access tables into the correct columns, im sure it must be possible i just don't really know where to start.

What I would like to be able to do is after the customers information is given over the phone, I need to be able to send that information to a database which will probably most likely be done by button click. In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.
The database is set out with multiple tables which include a customer table and a ticket table and both have multiple fields such as first name, surname in the customers table. Both of these tables are in use with the information that the customer gives over the phone.

I have a program for school project that has input fields for Name, Address, City, State and Zip. I need to error check so that the fields are not empty.I have used If statements that check to see if the fields are empty and shows a message box if they are but if I leave the whole form empty and click the button that activates it, all the if statements go- one by one instead of pausing for the user to input the required data.How do I check for data and make the program stay there until the data is input? I have tried TRY/CATCH but it won't catch this type of error.
