I am trying to read data from a text file that will be displayed in the below format:
usernameassword

username2assword2
What i want to be able to do is read each line of the text fine and then split the text where the colon character is and display what is in front of the colon in listbox1, and what is after the colon in listbox2?

I have created a database with a couple of records to get started, also I have attemted to implement the database in my forms. I want to add, delete, edit and save new records into the database so when I use it or re open the program the entered data will still be there. Also, after I have implemented these things, I would like to be able to import data from the database into textfields or comboboxes. I have a basic email client and I would like to import these contacts into the datafields. However, I will be trying to achieve that later.I am trying not to use the data connection wizards as I am learning the code as I go along. I have been reading up on databases for about 2 days not and i'm still struggling.This is to add contacts with the fields.I have 7 labels with text boxes, using the naming convention lblFName or txtFName etc;

I have 4 buttons;

-Delete record
-Save record

I don't know whether to use datagridview, listboxes or something else to display the records.This is to give you an idea of what I have done so far.However, I cannot find a way; despite my best efforts over the last 5 days to link the database that is located in the same folder as my program.If anyone could point me in the right direction on how to code this into my program, or post some links of which I can read, learn and understand the code.
This is what I'm sure will be the first of many noob-ish questions from yours truly... I'm studying as a mature student for a Computing Degree (encompassing web design, hardware, programming and systems analysis). The programming seems to be my weak spot this year. View 1 RepliesI have a data set with a parent child relationship between a patient table and an insurance table. There can be up to 4 insurances for each patient. I want to display them in 4 separate panels of a vb.net form. So if a patient had 2 insurances, then txtName1.text on panel 1 would have the company name of the first insurance, txtName2.text on panel 2 would hold the company name of the second insurance, and so on.
How do I display only the insurances related to the current patient? I've tried moving through the rows of the related table, but that gives me all the rows, not the ones I need. Everything I see on the internet suggest using a datagrid, but that's not an option in this case.
I have a button1 and a listview , upon click of the button1 which is link to a FolderBrowserDialog tool ( In built in VB in which it will allow you to choose the folder you wan on your computer ) , i will select the foler i want and than it will show up in list view the path name and filesname including those in the subfolder inside the folder .

I have designed my form like this it has a combo box and several text boxes. In the form load I want to load the customer IDs of my customer table into my Combo box.Customer IDs data type is varchar and this part is working in my form.The next thing that I want to do is if a user select a single user ID from the combo box I need to display the first name last name and there are several fields of that selected customer id in the text boxes.If anyone can help me in this it'll be a great help.I have designed my data base in sql server 2008 and I'm using visual studio 2008.I added a new sqldata adapter and I created the data set.But I want to know how to pass the selected id of the combo box as the select parameter of sql statement and how to bind data to the text boxes.

The web browser control navigates to a local website and automatically logs in for the end user. This is done by using code which automatically fills in the username and password and then submits the form to logon using something similar to this: WebBrowser1.Document.Forms.Item(, 0).elements("txtUsername").value = "user"
Once logged on - there is a search page which contains a combo box and list box. I am trying to set specific values for the combo box and list boxes.For example - the combo box on the website is titled: cbxDate and contains the following values: Today, Yesterday, This Week, This Month.
A list box titled: lstArea contains the following values: Zone A, Zone B, Zone C, All.I am trying to figure out if there is a way through code to select, in this example, "Yesterday" in the cbxDate and "Zone B" in the lstArea on the webpage.If anyone knows of a solution, please feel free to let me know. View 1 RepliesI'm new to Visual basic (which will be obvious from my question) and am writing program that does various calculations, then displays the results in a list box. the results, however, are all concatenated, end don't each appear on a new line. I tried adding a carriage return/line feed at the end buit the compiler rejected it.
I can't find any examples of creating a list box, and adding multiple entries (one for each time a loop is performed), nor of how to use columns to make the resulting display cosmetically pleasing.

What I would like to be able to do is after the customers information is given over the phone, I need to be able to send that information to a database which will probably most likely be done by button click. In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.
The database is set out with multiple tables which include a customer table and a ticket table and both have multiple fields such as first name, surname in the customers table. Both of these tables are in use with the information that the customer gives over the phone.

This program is supposed to allow the user to check items in a checked list box. If the item is checked, it goes into the Completed List Box on the right. The program then adds the unchecked items to the Pending list box on the left. I keep getting placement values (e.g. O,1,2) instead of the strings (e.g. "Key Returned") in the list box results (see photo attached)

I'm using this code to search a msacces db and display the data in a listview.The Search is fired after the text_changed event of a textbox. So each character is a search and also each backspace(here's where the real pain is) it will search. When I use backspace its very very slow! When I use 100 or even a 1000 records no problem but this db has 10.000 + records.Whitch event can I use to solve this problem or how can I adjust the code for faster search? ALs o when I test on a windows7 system, dualcore, 2gb memory, when I press a key it will take time before I see the character in the textboxs? Its a new system and only runs this program.I use a texbox to enter for example an artist name and a combobox where the user can choose to search on artis, title, genre etc. [code]

I am trying to create a WPF browser application that allows you to search and display recipes. The combo box presents choices, the Ingredients display in one list box and the "cooking" instructions appear in the other list box. What's happening is the first time you make a selection from the combobox nothing displays, and this could be happening because the first line of code under Selectionchanged clears the List Boxes however, it should be populating those list boxes with content, shouldn't it? Anyway, as you make other selections List boxes 1 & 2 get populated but they do not match what displays in the Combo box, i.e. if you select "Easy Taco Dip" any random recipe might appear in List Boxes 1 & 2.

When i enter price and quantity i want it to multiply and add one by one and give me the total in a label below...The problem is when I have two or more items in each list box I'm unable to come up with the total. View 6 RepliesThe project was to modify a previous payroll system project, which had a base class(employee) and 3 derived classes(salary, commision,and base + commission) under it by adding 2 more derived classes(piecework and hourly).Before I stated the modification, everything worked fine. When I would run the program the 3 types of employees would display in each output text box. The same thing is supposed to happen after I added the 2 additional types of employees, but now when I run the program, both output text boxes are completely blank. I'm not sure why I can't get anything to display in my 2 output boxes and all of the coding looks correct to me.

I am surely a new self-learner programmer using VB 2010 Express edition and I have a problem on writing my first code. I have designed my form and I only want to add code as events. The IDE already adds the methods when I double-clicked the button which I want to add the code on.
This question may be good on the IDE forum, but I just thought to ask it here because there may be more experts here on VB language functions. I have added the MenuSctripItems such as File, Edit and so on. How do I write the code for New, Open, Save, etc under file menu? It may sound boring or even silly, but I am here to learn and your contribution is both for me, you and the MSDN.
I'm using the free version on Visual Basic 2008 (through school).The assignment is to populate a list box from user input text. The textbook only talks about populating a list of known items.ex animalListBox.Items.Add("dog") Which works just fine, however, we don't know what the user will input.
So, how should I be thinking about this?
