I'm currently working on a Capstone Point of Sales project. We're using a multi-column list box to pull up the item #, Item Name, Quantity(may be deleted) and Price. However, I haven't had much experience with a connect database in Visual Basic. how to pull and display the data from the database into the list box?
View 5 RepliesI have a VB 2010 program with a single-table Access Database.I have selected the option to copy the Access Database to the output directory.When doing so, the program copies the original database to the inDebug folder.I want the original (NOT the copy) to be modified when the program is being tested.Also, when I attempted to publish the program and run it to test, I got an error which was sourced to be a temporary file (which was the database) that was missing.I think this is a reaction from the "Copy Always" option.

Now we need to pull data from Source database, manipulate it and push it into the destination database on daily basis.We are planning to use VB .Net for this and would like to know if this is feasible. I have a VB app and it has a login feature installed. Now when someone logs in into the app I want the users First Name and Last Name to be displayed on my second form where the user gets redirected on a sucesfull login. I think the code which provides the first name and last name need to check the users username which was provided on the first form and search through the DB. Then when it has found the record it should recieve the First Name and Last name.

i have a windows form with controls that i have associated with a database. all controls display the correct value but i'm having problem with 1 of them. i have added a listbox (not even sure if that is the correct control for that) where i want to display the list of the first column from the database. i want the listbox to display all items so when i click on one item, the other controls will be updated with the information about that item. i know the connection to the DB works because all other controls have the values from the first item. only the listbox is empty.

Just like when you search in google or youtube, once you typed in the initial string on the textbox or combo box it will show a drop-down list. I tried to use it in my application using linq method but the problem is it would duplicate on the first string that you entered on the dropdown list if that record exist on your database after you press the space key. I used the code below which duplicates the records on the drop-down list when you type in your string after the space key.
I just want it to be like in any search engine that when you type in the string or your initial string, it will display on the drop-down list all the records from the database that contains the string you entered without duplication. In my case, I'm trying to query a name from my database. This is how it should work, For example, if you type an initial string in the textbox or combo box a named 'Mark', it should display all the names from the database containing 'Mark' into the drop-down list before it changes into its final string that you entered.

I'm new to Visual basic (which will be obvious from my question) and am writing program that does various calculations, then displays the results in a list box. the results, however, are all concatenated, end don't each appear on a new line. I tried adding a carriage return/line feed at the end buit the compiler rejected it.
I can't find any examples of creating a list box, and adding multiple entries (one for each time a loop is performed), nor of how to use columns to make the resulting display cosmetically pleasing.
I am trying to learn the new methods in .net, but, I cant see a way to step through the data like you can in an ado recordset. I want to pull data from a table once, then split the data with a filter, then step through the rows gathering the dtata till eof. Clear the filter and reset it for the next batch.

I'm using this code to search a msacces db and display the data in a listview.The Search is fired after the text_changed event of a textbox. So each character is a search and also each backspace(here's where the real pain is) it will search. When I use backspace its very very slow! When I use 100 or even a 1000 records no problem but this db has 10.000 + records.Whitch event can I use to solve this problem or how can I adjust the code for faster search? ALs o when I test on a windows7 system, dualcore, 2gb memory, when I press a key it will take time before I see the character in the textboxs?
