IDE :: Pull Data From Source Database, Manipulate It And Push It Into The Destination Database?
Jan 22, 2009
I have VS 2005 installed in my sytem fyi.We have two databases, say source database and destination database. The databases is in Oracle. Now we need to pull data from Source database, manipulate it and push it into the destination database on daily basis. We are planning to use VB .Net for this and would like to know if this is feasible. Using windows forms through VB .NET, is it possible to create a exe and schedule the exe on nightly basis to pull the data from source to destination.how to do this as for manipulation of data, there is no intermediate database for us?

I'm having a problem to pull data from MS Access to my combobox. I know how to search one data using another data (e.g: using IC num to search name) but this time I just want to pull the data (e.g: name) that has several rows to my combobox. I think the method is the same but don't know where to change it.
Then when I added new names to the combobox, want to save it to my database, can each name be saved in different rows? I added the names to the combobox 1st, after that then I saved it. [code]...

I want to pull data from database and populate an array. Field one: A short name to call the second. Field tow: A connection string to a database.
EG: Cstr=Connstr("OrDB")
The known name of OrDB would result in a string assigned to the variable Cstr that could be a connection string to an oracle database.

I have a form as shown below:
And a database as shown below:
It is an inventory program I am doing on the side just to keep track of a small number of supplies, I want to be able to enter a barcode and have the program see if it already is in the inventory database, if not, it will allow me to enter information and add it to the database (That part works - Thanks to member on D.I.C.) If the barcode exists, I want it to fill the form with all the data from the database and allow me to update fields such as date used and used definition
Here is what I have so far:
Imports System
Imports System.IO

I'm trying to retrieve data from an Access database - a simple one. (Just a single table with one column) My task is to view these records through a 'ListView'. No need to manipulate or anything. Just to retrieve data with a simple SQL statement and display via a ListView.

I am designing a fairly small application to manage a waiting area for a clinical department. There will be a receptionist who books appointments and updates exisiting appointments to say that a patient has "Arrived". In seperate rooms will be nurses who call patients who have "Arrived" and update the appointment as "In Session" and finally as "Discharged". The appointments are viewed in a flexgrid with nurses across the top and time down the left, patient names are displayed at the relevant times and the cells are shaded a colour to represent the current appointment status ("Booked", "Arrived", "In Session" and "Discharged").
I am using SQL Server as the back-end and Visual Basic 6 (I know) as my front-end.I have been told that there will be 2 or 3 nurses plus the receptionist logged in to the system but I would like to cater for growth. My question is what is the best mechanism to use in order to reflect the status change made by one user on the screens of the other users currently logged in?
I have been thinking about using a timer to refresh the data at a set interval but I do not want to keep hitting the server excessively (although what is considered excessive? we would be talking about a call for data every 60 secs per user). Plus the server could be serving data for many other applications so this is another consideration.Alternatively I have been thinking about sending some kind of message via Winsock to the other users notifying them of data changes as they happen. I don't have a lot of experience with this and am concerned about clients not receiving messages and users seeing old data. It also seems strange to me that once the days appointments have been retrieved from the database that "in theory" a client could go the whole day without having to query the database again to pick up changes - kind of scary. Some information on the data:We would probably be looking at around 100 appointments per day We capture patient name, date of birth, date and time of appointment and appointment status. What is the standard approach / best practice for this kind of scenario?

I have a VB 2010 program with a single-table Access Database.I have selected the option to copy the Access Database to the output directory. When doing so, the program copies the original database to the inDebug folder.I want the original (NOT the copy) to be modified when the program is being tested. Also, when I attempted to publish the program and run it to test, I got an error which was sourced to be a temporary file (which was the database) that was missing.I think this is a reaction from the "Copy Always" option.

I am trying to add a data source from a connected database but it doesnt seem to be working well.Initailly the table name was mispelled and there where fields missing. The table was modified to include the new fields and it was also renamed. The changes are reflected in the dbml file within the project, and the solution has been built with a sucessfull result. The problem is, when I try to add a new data object into my solution, the changes that were made to the database arnt reflected in this new data object.

After trawling around the net for a good few days, i decided to post something here.
Basically, i've got a problem linking a data source (Access 2007 database) to a VB 2008 project.
I've broken it down to having a problem dragging a table onto my form, when it generates the nav bar, it says "0 of {0}", and the table is empty (despite the actual database containing values)
However, this happens only at home, at college it works totally fine. The only difference that's obvious is that i'm using Windows 7 at home, and Windows XP at college.

I'm using a MS Access 2007 database. I modified the field definition of one of the fields in a table, it a text field and I change the maximum length from 40 to 150. I have a data source in my app that contains this table and many others. I refreshed the data source but the change didn't take affect. I went through configure option but the change still didn't take affect. It gives me this error,
The value violates the MaxLength limit of this column.
If I add/delete a database field the data source is updated when I go through the configure process. I finally just deleted the table from my data source and then added it back.

It's been a while since I've programmed in Visual Basic 6 and very recently nose-dived into Visul Basic 2008 and .NET 3.5 Compact Framework. Hence I'm now becoming a bit stuck. This is NOT homework but a self imposed personal assignment. Only person who will mark it is me, being happy it'll work. Trying to recall and refresh my pprogramming skills the hard way.
I have so far written a program under VB2008 that executed on a WinCE device of which I have to have the terminal connected to the computer as WinCE is not emulated under Visual Studio. I've got the thing reading and writing files on the device using file streams so in a nut shell the sample application I have got working that can write data, find data and amend data.
Now here is where I am becoming stuck. I am now turning my sight on using Microsoft's compact SQL server. To date I have created the data table on the WinCE device using VS2008's data explorer so a database has been created and using the data explorer I can read and write data to the SDF file on the device. (Data Explorer talks to the compact SQL server on the WinCE device via an ActiceSync connection.)

I'm trying to copy a file, using System.Copy. The destination, if it exists, should be overwritten. I had been using a single line of code for about a month, without problems : IO.File.Copy(SourceFile, DestFile, True)But problems started about a week ago, when I started more advanced checks. Partially locked files fail to copy, and the destination gets deleted. Locked files, on the other hand, work correctly: they just trigger a file in use exception. So I added this line before launching the copy:Using TestForAccess As New IO.FileStream(SourceFile, IO.FileMode.Open, IO. FileAccess. Read, IO.FileShare.None) : End Using..This was supposed to launch an error if the file was in use. But it is to sensitive. Some files (such as thunderbird's abook.mab) trigger an error in this added code, whereas they copied fine before (and you can copy them in explorer). My question basically is: How do I tell the system: copy source to destination if possible; if not, don't break destination?

I have a SQL database that is different than the one in ASP.net so I had to create a custom membership Provider. The provider to get the user looks like this:My SQL class name is CustomSqlProvider:
Public Overrides Function GetUser(ByVal username As String, _
ByVal userIsOnline As Boolean) As MembershipUser
'Dim connectionString As String = "Server=***;Database=***;User Id=***password=****"'
[code]....
After adding those gets and sets and assigning parameter variables to my Sproc parameters I get the following error: "Reference not set to an instance of an object." at this line of code:
Dim currentUser As MembershipUser = Membership.GetUser()
Dim UserId As Guid = CType(currentUser.ProviderUserKey, Guid)
And this is what I have on the UserInfo.aspx.vb Page under the Button click:
Dim sql As New SqlClient.SqlCommand("Update_User", con)
sql.Parameters.Add("@UserId", SqlDbType.UniqueIdentifier).Value = UserId
sql.Parameters.Add("@UserName", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = txtUserName.Text
