Using SSIS - Arrange Data In A Flat File Destination That Is Bieng Pumped From An OLE DB Source?

I'm trying to convert a DTS package to an SSIS Package. My package contains a Data Flow task that pumps data from an OLE DB connection to a Flat File destination.The data in the flat file needs to be arranged in a certain way (eg: spacing), So how do I do that? Is there any data trasformation tool that will help me achieve this? If so how would it be done?THE DTS CODE (to put things in perspective)

I have VS 2005 installed in my sytem fyi.We have two databases, say source database and destination database. The databases is in Oracle. Now we need to pull data from Source database, manipulate it and push it into the destination database on daily basis.We are planning to use VB .Net for this and would like to know if this is feasible. Using windows forms through VB .NET, is it possible to create a exe and schedule the exe on nightly basis to pull the data from source to destination.how to do this as for manipulation of data, there is no intermediate database for us?

Our application is using VBSQL.OCX on Sql server 2000 to create temporary tables and load pipe delimited data from a text file with predefined format into the tables. It is failing intermittently doing this. 99% times it works perfectly. But on occasions it does fail with error. Once the process is rerun with the same input file it runs successfully.Basically the architecture is of Store/Head Office where there are around 200 remote stores sending set of data files to the Head Office. At HO our application sequentially processes each store which has all the set of files received, creates a corresponding table, loads the data from the file into the table and moves onto the next store.If it is for some reason not able to load the file for a store, it gives a failure message and continues with next store.Error which the OCX throws is "Attempt to convert data stopped by syntax error in source field"

I have a huge amount of data in flat-file format that I would like to validate with Visual Basic 2010. Basically the data is a text file with 300 comma separated fields and 500,000 records.
Any tips, sample code or examples? Are any .NET classes specifically geared for data validation?
As I have different validation rules for each field (some fields are dates, some are currency, etc.) I would like to store the rules away from the code (e.g. in an SQL database table). Has anyone seen this done before?

i have been searching the web for days and yet to find a clue on how to extract specific data from a flat file, i know how to extract all the data from flat file but not "specific data".
my problem now is that i need to extract a certain data out from a very very messy log file, what i need is to extract the decimal data right after "score=". it is in this format "score=1.938249".
for the decimal data right after "score", it is very random, there is no fix length to this. and also "score" does not fix in a specific position, it could be starting of the string or ending of the string of messy data.
just a peak on my messy data,

I'm trying to copy a file, using System.Copy. The destination, if it exists, should be overwritten. I had been using a single line of code for about a month, without problems : IO.File.Copy(SourceFile, DestFile, True)But problems started about a week ago, when I started more advanced checks. Partially locked files fail to copy, and the destination gets deleted. Locked files, on the other hand, work correctly: they just trigger a file in use exception.So I added this line before launching the copy:Using TestForAccess As New IO.FileStream(SourceFile, IO.FileMode.Open, IO. My DBA has several SSIS packages that he would like the functionality of providing the end user with a way to input values for variables in the package. What would be the best solution for creating an application that would take the user input and pass the data through to the SSIS package variables?
I can get this work locally using this code

in my application i have to print some data on alrady printed forms...for example: i have print on a BANK CHEQUE.
Now my problem is that these forms are printed differently and different bank have different check but all have the same data..and to meet this requirement printing need to be ajusted for eg i might need one colom two place down or left or right.. so i need a printing tool in which i can edit the location of printing meterial i mean take them few places left or right and adjust them as my requirement.i have used crystal reports and ms reports at very basic level but what i have found is that i can not edit design move drag etc from the application..

I've gotten the code I posted a few weeks ago working to export a tab delimited file. ([URL]) Now, I've already converted it from tab delimited to "tilde delimited." My goal is to import this flat file created as an EDI 850 Purchase Order. My ordering system rejects the file, yet it looks identical to other working files. My thought is the encoding / format is wrong.

Using SQLDMO you could export a file to a flat file however this functionality is not available in SMO. From what I've read you need to use SSIS to accomplish this now. how to do this in VB.NET or C#?

I created a simple VB application in Visual Studio 2010.My computer, which I am using to create the program, is Windows 7 Pro, and SQL Server 2008 is running on a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, which I have full access to.
I want to click a button and have an SSIS package execute.I looked around on the Internet and found examples, but they do not seem to work for me.I try to add a reference, Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS.dll, as a few sites advise, but it is not listed when I go to PROJECT>ADD REFERENCE.
I also type:
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime but all I get is a squiggly green line, which when hovered over states "Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'Microsoft.SqlServer .Dts.Runtime' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found." Below is some code I copied from one of the websites and pasted in my button click event (the path is correct), but a get blue squiggly lines under "Package" and "DTSExecResult":

I am in process of designing an architecture for an application. Following is the high level requirement.
1. The basic requirement is to convert a flat file into XML
2. The input flat file can have various formats, the delimiters, the data positions may vary.
3. The output XML format is predefined. There is a specification defined in a word format, which I think I need to define it as an XSL or XSD.
I am planning to follow some design pattern. Not decided yet. The architecture should be flexible to extend the input file formats and accommodate any changes in output specification.

What is the best method to parse through a Comma Delimited .dat file? I am using VS2002 and VB. My code will be looking for certain placeholders within the files and pulling the value from that element to populate a table in SQL2000.Here is a sample of one row that is in the database so far:17768 01 1770 003 2009-11-01 00:00:00 5065.14 NULL NULLEach spaced section is taken from a part of the .dat file, but being manually keyed in for now. My job is to automate the reading of the file, and writing it to the SQL database.Here is a sample of the flat file I am trying to parse:

I refreshed my data sources to include additional items from the SQL Server databases and it appears that my entire data source from my VB.NET project disappeared.I am using Entity Framework. I may have clicked on something wrong, not quite sure. Unfortunately I can't recreate the Data Source without creating a new Entity and Data Model.I can delete the entry in the App.Config file and recreated it, however things aren't quite right.Is there a way that I can recreate my Data Source from the entry that is in my App.Config file...since that appears to have remained intact.BTW, I can go to my Data Model and successfully refresh from there, however my project isn't connecting to the database so I have quite a number of errors until I can get reconnected.

This should be very simple but I'm very new to Visual Studio so I can't get it to work. I want to take data from an excel (2003) file and turn it into a bunch of charts that would be viewable on a webpage that I'm trying to build in Visual Studio .Net 2005 professional.
I can't seem to use an excel file as my data source, here are the steps that I've followed:
1) created a new asp.net project
2) dragged a report viewer from the toolbox and it asks me to choose a report or "Design New Report."
3) Clicked Design New Report, and it opened up a new blank report.
4) Clicked "Add New Data Source" and got the Table Adapter Configuration Wizard.
5) Clicked new connection and it brought up the Add connection table.
6) Clicked "change" under data source and I chose Microsoft ODBC Data Source (not sure if that's right.)
7) Under "Data source specification" I chose "Excel Files"
- The first time I did this it brought up a window for me to choose an excel file so I did. Something along the way failed out but it stilled saved "ConnectionString1" as a connection to that first excel file. Now every time after I choose "Excel Files" and click "OK" the add connection window disappears and it goes back to the Table Adapter Configuration Wizard with the "ConnectionString1" as the connection string. It won't let me specify any different excel file. So I did 1-6 again and picked up at 7B
7B) Instead of using "Use user or system data source name:" I chose "Use connection string:" and clicked Build.
8) Picked the "Machine Data Source" tab and chose "Excel Files" and clicked ok
9) The "Select Workbook" window appears so I went to the file I wanted to use as my data source and click OK
10) Back on the Add Connection window I clicked test connection and it succeeded so I clicked ok.
11) It goes back to the Table Adapter Config Wiz window, but the connection string only says "Dsn=Excel Files"
12) clicked Next, then Next again, then clicked on Query Builder. The Add Table window pops up but there is nothing in there for me to choose from.I've tried a million other things, here are a few of the errors that I seem to get a lot.

i have a simple vb program which i have loaded a data surce access file with it. I have done this using the data scource tab/wizard and then dragged the table on to my form which automatically gives me the functions i need (e.g. next record, save record, add new etc..)This all works as expected and fine within the program but when I open up the access file after - it hasnt done anything to the database/table what so ever - i.e. no changes were applied to it. Im so baffled

so i have a file that i need to read in vb.net. Each line is 32 chars long and each line consists of multiple fields. Meaning from char 1 to 9 it idicates ID then char 10 indicates an identifier,11-14 indicates a value field. I've looked at Readblock and it's not the tool for the job. Is there a way to break up each line into its respective fields other than just reading the whole line and breaking it up as a string?
