View 4 RepliesI have a hardware which sends out packets containing 17 bytes to the comport in bursts of 3. the little test VB that I have written receives and displays the bytes in a line of 17 bytes long and works fine until it gets to around 170th packet, then it starts to mix up (looks like shifting the data left) the bytes shift mostly by one digit sometimes by two. then it will continue to give almost a packet correct and a packet shifted for about 50 packets. Then it will correct itself for a long while, but then the speed at which it receives drops. All the packets are sent 3 times, and before things go wrong (within the first 170 packets) the packet counter shows that it receives 3 packet each time but after the problem it goes to 2 packet per burst and then to one.
If i close my VB monitoring program say at packet 165 and immediately open it again, it wont go wrong for another 170 packets, this points the finger at VB. I have check my hardware, there is no problem with that.The program reads port - waits for 17 bytes - once 17 has been received it will go and buffer the packet in an array. In fact they are 2 arrays but printing fro either results in the same problem.I have tried whatever i could think of but to no avail, i am wondering if some kind of house keeping needs to be done to clear something... I am sorry the program is a bit messy but I have been making many changes to find out what the problem is - my code below:[code]

I am trying to update someonelse code, the attached code reads from a unicode txt files and compares a string of "Department_Name |Division_Name|Position_Name|Job_Name" with a db field called "ident_org" in org tbl. As you noticed in the input the first number is the student ID, the second number is the number of tests made by the student, and the other 3 numbers are grades, in the output the first number is the student ID, the second number is the average of the tests, and the other 3 numbers are grades, I don't have a problem opening and saving a text file and neither creating a tab with 2 RTB , my problem is how do I tokenize or read the input line by line, i guess that i need to use the split function but I don't know how to implement it into the program.

My application reads information from an Excel spreadsheet into a DataSet (ds1) which is then filtered into another DataSet (ds2) based on user-specified criteria. The information is basically telephone call logs that reflects when a phone call was made,what extension it was made one, how long the call was, what number was called, etc.When the user's "search" criteria is matched in ds1 above, the application adds the number called to a ListBox on the form. When the ListBox Item is selected, additional information (call duration and such) is displayed to the right of the ListBox. My problem is that a single phone number could have been called multiple times on an extension within the date range the user specifies and for each occurrence of that number in the ListBox, the "expanded" info only reflects the information for the 1st call to that number listed in the DataSet.
The only unique identifier I have is the DateTime field for the row (as this goes up to the second). I thought about putting it into the ListBox item, but I'd prefer that this date not be visible until the user selects the ListBox item to view the details for that call. [code]
I want to develop a small application that reads in scanned barcodes into a database table - Would a vb.net form based application that connects to the database be best approach? What I'm think is each time the user scans in the barcode - a message appears on the form saying the barcode that has been scanned.
1.Would I need to program anything within the program to check whether the barcode scanner is connected (or is this not necessary since it works like a keyboard device?)
2. How could I automate the scanning in without requiring any user intervention like a button which saves it to the database - so basically as soon as a barcode is scanned in - it is saved to the database and the next barcode can be scanned in etc.

It is a Minecraft mod manager, so i wanna move all files from one zip containing the mod, to the minecraft.jar (which is a zip with another extension) overwriting all files. Also, it should delete the META-INF folder in minecraft.jar to prevent black-screening.
I am developing an application that reads an MDI applications child window and grabs the information from a control such as a textbox or listbox. I have tried to use Findwindow in order to accomplish this. I have gotten all the way to the control, but once I get there it returns blank. Can anyone point me in the right direction to accomplish this.I am able to read the window title and get the control title but when I send a message to the window it returns 0. I'm trying to make a application that allows the person to script config files for an open game server project so they don't have to do it manually... I'm starting with 3 groups. Those groups are "NPC NAMES", "MONSTER NAMES", and "MONSTER WALK POSITIONS"... I want the user to be able to add as many items to the group as they want... Right now I'm using a listbox, but its very messy... I want the user to be able to add items to these groups, and then add the items of each group to a .txt file.

View 1 RepliesI have a USB device which creates a Virtual Serial Port on Windows. I am using VB.Net to write and read from the port. My device responds with specific sized set of bytes, but I am finding that SerialPort.Read(byte-array,offset,number-bytes) does not return the full number-bytes but it also does not timeout or generate an exception. Repeated calls return additional fragments (up to 3 calls required). Python code using pySerial does not have the same problem.So, what am I doing wrong here? Am I expecting too much?
Some scenarios are:I write a command to the port and expect to get 4 bytes in response. I get 1 byte first and then 3 bytes on the subsequent call.I write a command and expect 21120 bytes in response. I get 1, 12671 and then 8448 bytes in 3 calls to read from the port.

I am writing an app that reads from the com port, filters the data, then writes to the text box, then immediately starts over. This all takes place in an endless " do while" loop within the "start" button code. I also have a end button too which closes the com port and ends the program. Some other buttons are present also to change the filter settings.Problem is when I click start, data is logged, but none of the other buttons work. Also some of the text boxes are "see through" and dont look like thy have updated with the rest of the form.

Instead of showing read data in datagridview, i'd want to read the data from xml file into one dimensional array: X(Impedances) Or is there a way to read value from this datatable into string variable without getting data from datagridview? The point is: i'd want to scan through all "Impedance" values (which are read from xml file) and compare with value y to catch the nearest value to y. How to do that?

View 3 RepliesHi, I'm working on a program that reads text entered into a textbox and creates a list of items by separating entries by commas. Everything is working fine, except, because I am using an array to store the items in the list, I have a limited number of entries. This is only a problem because, as it is written currently, each comma counts as an individual entry. Therefore, users can enter ",,," for example, and it would use up 3 places in the array.
I'm looking for a way to check to make sure there is text after the comma before adding an entry. I've attempted to use the .substring command to check the character after, which works until it gets to the last character. Because there is no character after that, it will give an error.

I'm trying to find a good strategy to access data files, image files, etc., that I want to distribute in my VB.NET deployment. The challenge I'm having is to find a place to put the files, and a means for the program to find them, regardless of whether the program is running in the Visual Studio environment as a debug build or release build, or running as an installed application.I've considered using AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory to find the location of the EXE file, then using relative paths to that folder. However, that approach depends on the directory hierarchy imposed by the Visual Studio tools when it separates the binaries of debug and release builds. Both builds would have to navigate upward to reach a common root folder, and the path traversal algorithm must work for the deployed EXE file too.

Using: VB 2008 Express?I created an application that connects to my MySQL, and everything works fine, but...
1. On my development computer, Windows 7, 64bit, I add the MySQL.data.dll file as a reference. I publish the program, run the setup.exe, and sucess.
2. I then copy my published folder to my test computer, Windows Vista 32 bit, and upon running the setup, the program fails to work because it cannot find the Mysql reference.
3. I then transfer my entire project over to my Vista computer, publish the program, run the setup.exe, and sucess.
4. I finally found out what was happening. My Windows 7 comptuer was not including MySql.Data.dll.deploy file in the Application Files published directory; but when I compiled it on the Vista machine this MySql.Data.dll.deploy was included.
So, in the end, I cannot compile the program on Windows 7, because it fails to create the .deploy file, and use it on Vista or XP (for some reason Win7 doesn't need this .deploy file?); but I can publish it on the Vista machine and install it fine on Windows 7, Vista, or XP. My targe CPU setting is Any computer.
