I am trying to update someonelse code, the attached code reads from a unicode txt files and compares a string of "Department_Name |Division_Name|Position_Name|Job_Name" with a db field called "ident_org" in org tbl. Since it is a bad design, I need the code to check a combination of ""Department_Code|Division_Name|Job_Code" against db and get the value of uid_org (unique key). Then if key exists then update that specific row(s) else insert the combination of "Department_Name|Division_Name|Position_Name|Job_Name" into db.[code]....

I need to write a code that reads off a value from a another system's screen and compares with fixed value in .net 2005. The code should read all 24 lines of data from the screen and match to see if it is equal to the fixed value. What I have so far is:

I am working on vs2008+vb+sqlserver compact edition project which hav a attached .sdf database. Now i want to deploy my project to clients machine. I dont want to embbed sqlserver ce with my setup and also on clients machine. Now i m not getting idea, how to add sqlserver ce dll files with my application to deploy on client side and also i don't hav any experience of deployment. I m using a third party code security tool to prevent my codes and which also provides licencing facilities. So, How could i manage all these stuffs for successfull application deployment?

I have a hardware which sends out packets containing 17 bytes to the comport in bursts of 3. the little test VB that I have written receives and displays the bytes in a line of 17 bytes long and works fine until it gets to around 170th packet, then it starts to mix up (looks like shifting the data left) the bytes shift mostly by one digit sometimes by two. then it will continue to give almost a packet correct and a packet shifted for about 50 packets. Then it will correct itself for a long while, but then the speed at which it receives drops. All the packets are sent 3 times, and before things go wrong (within the first 170 packets) the packet counter shows that it receives 3 packet each time but after the problem it goes to 2 packet per burst and then to one.
If i close my VB monitoring program say at packet 165 and immediately open it again, it wont go wrong for another 170 packets, this points the finger at VB. I have check my hardware, there is no problem with that.The program reads port - waits for 17 bytes - once 17 has been received it will go and buffer the packet in an array. In fact they are 2 arrays but printing fro either results in the same problem.I have tried whatever i could think of but to no avail, i am wondering if some kind of house keeping needs to be done to clear something... I have a Excel - VBA problem that I can't seeem to get around. I have written some code to search through excel sheets and return the values it finds. The code is written in a module, and when I run it by clicking the play button at the top of the VB editor it works perfectly.
However I have noticed that I need to link it to a button (on_Click) in sheet1, I have tried copying the code into the button sub, it throws up an error: "Method 'Range' of Object '_Worksheet' Failed" When it gets to the 'UpCount' line. This piece of code steps across a worksheet and when a "y" is found it copies the values form a cell at the top of the worksheet (which uses the upcount formula as the cell to be copied changes), and then it also copies some values to the right of the cell containing the "y" value.This code all worked fine when it was ran from the module2 window using the play button a tthe top of the VB editor page, it is just now it is attached to the commandbutton I am experiancing problems!
Sorry I use ActiveCell as I don't really know how to use anything else! And being new at the coding game it helps me to 'see' what is going on..

I have a piece of code that reads in lines of tabbed text. It is a game of who wants to be a millionaire. What I would like to do is get the game to incorporate random questioning.

I have already connected my database and have completed multiple forms and reports.Just discovered that I missed adding ONE field in an Access table.Since it is attached how can I add a field to the database without disconnecting it? If I do disconnect it and reconnect will I have to redesign all my forms and reports?

The code below reads each line from a file and if the conditions become true it adds the contents of the file from the particular line and after into a string collection (i.e. the All contents). This is what at least what the code should do as the current one only adds the line that it encounters into the string collection.

I am working on a project that involes reading an Excel file, picking through it, then creating a flat CSV file. One of the the data elements I am picking up is a 9 character string that may be numeric, or contain one or more alpha chatacters. Excel has a nasty habit of converting long numerics to scientific notaion. I can overcome this by converting the "general" string to "TEXT".
However, there is one instance where I can not get the function to work...the string is "90333E108" ( the CUSIP for USU). Regardless, the text string is saved properly into the CSV file. When opened in a text editor, it reads correctly.
When opened with Excel, it is in scientific notation. Changing the field to "text" from "scientific" still displays "9.03E+112".
how to create an csv file that Excel will open and read correctly?
You can test this by creating an Excel workbook, format all cells as TEXT and add the following data:

I already know how to call insert, update, delete & select procedures in DataSet.xsd window. And I also know how to call queries by table adapters. But I just found out that its not possible to call all functions by queries (such as insert). It works when I test the query but when I try to add it, it says "Failed to get schema for this query". So I built a few stored procedures which do many functions (such as transaction, insert, update etc...). But I am unable to use these stored procedures in VB form. I found some tutorials mentioning that it can be done by defining connections and some other stuffs with which I don't want this to be. I want to call these procedures by writing code in VB code editor window with DataSets, TableAdapters, BindingSource etc...

How can I Convert a Unicode value to its equivalent string for example i have "రమెశ్" and i need a function that accepts this unicode value and returns a string I was looking at the System.Text.Encoding.Convert() function but that does not take in a Unicode value, it takes 2 encodings and a byte array. I bascially have a byte array that I need to save in a string field and then come back later and convert the string first back to a byte array. So i use ByteConverter.GetString(byteArray) to save the byte array to a string but can't get it back to a byte array.

fI am reading some 10 fields per line from a text file. One of the field is in Chinese Characters. The other are numeric or english strings. When I open the text file (using notepad), I can see all characters displayed properly, including the Chinese. BUt when I read the line o text into a variable oneLine in a VB program using the following code:

I have a TrueType font in my PC. And there are some unicode characters in it which I want to insert it into my RichtTextBox. The CharMap in WindowsXP shows the unicode character as U+00CC and to the right, it also displays the KeyStroke as Alt+0204So, how do I insert this unicode character in RichTextBox ? Also, if I'm going to distribute this small program along with this particular font, will this end system can easily display the unicode characters ?
