I have already connected my database and have completed multiple forms and reports.Just discovered that I missed adding ONE field in an Access table.Since it is attached how can I add a field to the database without disconnecting it? If I do disconnect it and reconnect will I have to redesign all my forms and reports?

I want to compress an ms access database using vb.net. If the database is open this fails. How can I close the database, compress it, then reopen the database using vb.net code to accomplish this. I've already successfully written the code for compression, but I can't find anything on closing the database while leaving ms access open.

I am working on an asp.net project in VS2010 using vb.NET (not VBA) designing an interface to allow a user to upload a file to an access 2007 table attachment field. My understanding is that in order to interface with a table with an attachment field you
must use DAO to connect to the database so that you can expose the attachment field properties. When I try to open the DAO recordset I am getting "COM exception was unhandled by user code" with a message stating "Too few parameters. Expected 3". It ran without any error but when I opened SSMS, I could not see my file attached to the server. Also, I tried to make a connection, but it says file does not exist but when I tried to re-run the above code, it says File already exists.Something wrong with my way of doing it? I want to see it attached with the instance of my SQL Server Express 2005, using SSMS.

In my form 2, I have textboxes where user can enter Customer details and click on SAVE. My doubt is here....On clicking this SAVE button in Form 2, I want a INSERT command to happen on the MSAccess's Database table called Customer (which I have already created... this table does not have any records as of now). In my form 1, I added a MSAccess Database with a Connection String. In the full version of the program I have two sets of connections one for when we are inside our vpn, which uses local ip addresses and DNS names; and the other which uses the external IP addresses and DNS names.This works quite well; if the user has stored credentials on their pc for the connection they connect straightaway; and if they don't the .rdp dialogue opens up with the server name/address filled in, ready for them to edit the rest of the required information.The problem for me is that this means I have to code 43 different Private Subs and then link the buttons; and I was hoping that instead of individually coding each connection, I could get the users to:Select by an option button whether the connection was internal or external

View 3 RepliesI'm pulling records from a db table (sybase) where I have run into a problem with a long varchar field. Using the OLEdb class I convert the field into a string variable which works fine in most cases, but there are problem with a few records. Examining the field in the database it shows that the value is not null, but the length of the field is 0.(SELECT field, length(field) FROM table). When I try to convert this into a string the result is rubbish.strContent = objReader.Item(i). I can't figure out what's the problem here, so I have avoided the issue by doing a table update before I start the process of getting data (I set the field value to null if field.length = 0
View 3 RepliesI just want to know what is your suggestion about storing database connection strings in .NET? I am using My.Setting usually, but now I am facing with versioning of my application. When I upgrade my application to higher version the value in My.Setting has been changed, it didn't remain as user has set before, but changed base on my machine's setting. eg. the value in My.Settings Version 1.0.0.0 (User's computer) is 'ABC' When I develop again some new feature on my machine and set its version to 1.0.0.2, of course the connection string in my computer's My.Setting file is different with User's computer's My.Setting. So when I copied my recent updated file to use's computer, then run the application, the application read the new My.Setting file from my computer but not from their computer. the value in My.Settings Version 1.0.0.2 (Developer's computer) is 'DEF' Therefore I have to reset and reset their connection strings onve I updated their application, that's too annoying?

I will be developing a program using visual studio 2008 with ms access 2007 as my database. What I only use is this type of connection string: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:mydatabase.mdb;Jet OLEDB:System Database=system.mdw;" but i was asked if it is possible to put the database in sharepoint and I haven't even tried it before. The case is like this, the program that i will do would be installed on some computer units of different branches of the company then the database should be accessible through sharepoint so that every users can access the most updated database.
