Sql Server - Attached DB Is Not Accessible To Make Connection?

I created a DB using following code.
Dim conn As New SqlConnection("Server=.SQLExpress;Data Source=;Integrated Security=SSPI")
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("", conn)
cmd.CommandText = "CREATE DATABASE MyDBTest22 ON ( FILENAME = 'D:dbTestATTTTTTT.mdf' ), ( FILENAME = 'D:dbTestATTTTTTT_log.ldf' ) FOR ATTACH"

It ran without any error but when I opened SSMS, I could not see my file attached to the server. Also, I tried to make a connection, but it says file does not exist but when I tried to re-run the above code, it says File already exists.Something wrong with my way of doing it? I want to see it attached with the instance of my SQL Server Express 2005, using SSMS.

ERROR MESSAGE:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)But looks like something is wrong with "localhost" thing. Any help? Where can I get name of (my) server?

I have already connected my database and have completed multiple forms and reports.Just discovered that I missed adding ONE field in an Access table.Since it is attached how can I add a field to the database without disconnecting it? If I do disconnect it and reconnect will I have to redesign all my forms and reports?

Ok I have a question about connection string in vb.net. Im using the string [Code] but here I am specifying the serverName by its name, now if I deploy my application and send it to another person to use it I see that server name is changing according to the name of the computer. Is there any way where by I can make my application to detect itself the Name of the server present in that computer and use it in connection string?

I've created a Http Server in VB.net.I've used the same "template", I guess you could say, for every project requiring an Http Server (quite a few recently).The problem is, this one I'm working with now requires that the computers on the LAN be able to connect to it. I have an issue with an app i am writing, i need to make a variable accessible to any module or class within the project but that cant be accessed outside of the app as it is accessing info the end user shouldn't have access to.
Ok, well a practice i have gotten into in the last few years is to declare a module on the same page as the main form and declare variables either friend or public (global variables). with my app public is not good so i tried Protected Friend but i cant use this within a module.
I tried placing it at the top of the main form but one of my classes can't access it, what would be the right way to do as expected. besides the main form i have 2 classes call them class1 and class2:- main interacts with both classes class1 accesses class2 class2 doesn't access class1

I have a RadioButtonList control which triggers a Sub LegalGaps on SelectedItemChanged event. This Sub creates and fills in an array the size of which depends on the User's choice of radiobutton options. In general, according to the OOP paradigm, my understanding of encapsulation basically says:
-If a member is private, it can only be accessed by the class.
-If a member is protected, it can only be accessed by the base class and any derived classes.
-If a member is public, it can be accessed by anyone.
If I have a nested class, can I declare a property to be accessible only to that class and the parent class it's nested within? For example:[code]In the example, I cannot directly access myNestedObject.myInt or myNestedObject.myDbl from an instance of ContainerClass if those members are Private or Protected. But suppose I don't want to make them Public,because then they are TOO exposed: they can be altered from anywhere, not just within a Container Class object. Declaring them Friend would still be too weak as that would allow them to be altered from anywhere within the application.

After running the following sub (VS debugger), I try to detach the database in SSMS, but it shows the connection open still and won't let me detach. If I close program in debugger, the database shows no connections. I check the dataadapter's connection in the finally block and is shows closed. What gives

This will happen at random, and I can always just catch the error and re-establish connection to the server, but I am confused as to why. When doing lots of inserting into the sql server, I only establish one connection that is public, instead of many little connections. I had my doubts on a public sql connection, but it's been running great, and I've seen no problems until this morning. Again, this random moment I hit an error that stated, sql connection state is broken. Is it bad practice to just accept this error, and when it happens, re-establish the connection?

I am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application.To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:

Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.
On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?

Each business object has a matching object that contains sql calls. I'd like to restrict these sql objects in a way where they can only be used by the matching business object. How can this be achieved?
Update Greg brought up the point about testability. Since the SqlObjects will contain very business-process specific sql I don't want them reused in multiple buiness objects. (Basic CRUD operations are all code-generated) Is there a way to make the SqlObjects accessible to only one business object in the business assembly (like yshuditelu and Greg Beech showed) AND expose the SqlObjects to the unit testing assembly?

i started programming with .NET (i have express edition) and wanted to make a connection to an SQL Server..previously i had .net 2005 - i started having the issue there - i unistalled it, n installed visual studio 2008. I have installed SQL Compact that came with the .net 2008, and besides it SQL Server 2000.When I try to make a connection to the SQL Server, if server is running I have to stop it and then choose the DB i want to use. (if its running wont let me choose any DB). Then, when i select the DB i need, Im getting this error:
"The instruction CREATE FILE fount SO error 5 (failed to retrieve text for this error.Reason:15105) while trying to open or creating the fysichal file : -path- to northwnd_log.ldf. Cant open the new database -path to northwnd.mdf. CREATE DATABASE discarded.Error while trying to attach a DB automatically named for archive -path to northwnd.mdf. There already exists a database with the same name, cant open the specified file or it is in a shared UNC resourse.File activation error. I need a tunneling server which will tunnel the incoming and outgoing connections and make there ping appear to be 0 in the server. Client to Server, Server to Client.

I have many Listviews in my Form and Im retrieving stored procedures to populates my Listviews. Is it necassary to close the connection to SQL Server once I have finished populating my Listviews?The angle which im coming from is that every 30 seconds or so I need to re-populate my Listviews with the latest cut of data from SQL Server therefor Im probably going to slow down my application if it has to connect to SQL Server every 30 seconds to get the latest cut of data... instead of keeping the connection to the SQL Server Stored Procedure live so that I can use some sort of method to refresh the data?
