Jun 26, 2009I'm pulling records from a db table (sybase) where I have run into a problem with a long varchar field. Using the OLEdb class I convert the field into a string variable which works fine in most cases, but there are problem with a few records. Examining the field in the database it shows that the value is not null, but the length of the field is 0.(SELECT field, length(field) FROM table). When I try to convert this into a string the result is rubbish.strContent = objReader.Item(i). I can't figure out what's the problem here, so I have avoided the issue by doing a table update before I start the process of getting data (I set the field value to null if field.length = 0

Jun 9, 2011I'm trying to design a words game that's give you the first two letters from the word and you insert the rest to make a word (for now I'm just using "co" as example and I have just one table in the database for it). The word will be written in textbox to be compared to a database field. If the word exist in the field the word will be displayed in a label with blue color and the score will increased by one if not the word will be displayed in the label with red color. This should happen three times with three words and I have different label for each one.
the name of my database is database1 and it have one table "A" wich contain "Comp" and "word". I tried this game with array of word before and it was working. Now I'm trying to use database instead of arrays but its not working. [Code]

I'd like to put all licensing information (licensee name, expiration date, and enabled features) into an object, encrypt that object with a private key, then represent the encrypted data as a single text string which I can send via email to my customers.
I've managed to get the encrypted data into a byte stream, but I don't know how to convert that byte stream into a text value -- something that contains no control characters or whitespace. Can anyone offer advice on how to do that? I've been researching the Encoding class, but I can't find a text-only encoding.

I want to replace those symbols with an alphabet character (Z).I am changing the line of text into a charArray,iterating through one character at a time. How do I define the ASCII(248) in code to replace each occurence with a Z? Something like string.Replace(ASCII(248), "Z") would be nice, but that doesn't seem to work too well.

In this Column binded in one of the Combobox in a Form.But the Problem is "OtherName" Column having the Null Values.Before i bind this Column to Combobox i want to convert this NULL Values to String. Why i need the values in STRING means , In my code i using this Combobox as a filter in SQL Query.If i didn`t change the Null Value to STRING , The Combobox SelectedText or SelectedValue is Showing Nothing. Data In A VBasic Program As Was Possible In GwBasic Eg?
Sep 8, 2009I've programmed in gwBasic for years, but it won't run in a 64bit OS, so I've had to learn vBasic. But I haven't learned how to have simple data in the program. Eg., in gwBasic there'd be a line like this:
140 Data 123, 64, 2382, 40, ..(etc) or it might be strings, or both.
And of course, you'd use the Read stmt to read it, and Restore to 'refresh' the data list.
I can't find equivalent cmds in vBasic, tho it seems most of the old stmts do have counterparts in vBasic.
