Best Method For MS-SQL Database Access?
Sep 1, 2011
I'm using VB.net Express with SQLExpress. I've got the reader working in my program, but I'm trying to find the best way to go with SQL access in my VB program. I need to be able to write fairly sophisticated SQL queries from many different tables and then either load the data into VB arrays or? in order to do some calculations and field selection. I'm not displaying any data on the screen, like so many examples out there seem to illustrate.

I'm struggling to work with data in VB 2008, and find it extremely complicated! At first I couldn't even get a database to load, as VB 2008 kept complaining it was created with an older Jet engine.OK, I converted it to a newer Access format that VB 2008 finally accepted.
In trying to find out why changes weren't saved, I found a common problem was VB 2008 wiping out changes.OK I have told the compiler not to copy the older database file back over but to copy newer.Updates then supposedly happened --- no errors were reported --- but the changes were still not saved.It appears the update method didn't exist in the datatableadapter, but I got no error messages about that.
No update done.
I've used the tools to configure the dataset and datatableadapter.Automatic generation of methods like update, add new, delete, etc. were supposedly done.Now, when trapping the error, I'm told the update method isn't a valid one.I found little information on that. It suggested primary keys could be a cause, but adding or deleting a primary key has no effect.I can see the fill method, and it works fine.I can't see the update method. (Apparently it is in SQL which I don't know anyway.)

I'd like to export a table from Access to a text file (or a spreadsheet) using VB code in Excel 02. I'm using the transfertext command but my code runs through without actually doing anything or throwing up any errors. If I swap the code round and change Export to Import and move the data into the text file manually then the code will happily import the table into Access.
Sub Export()
dbfile = "C:XLSMDBTable.mdb"
Dim a As Object
Set a = CreateObject("access.application")

[code] info: using access 2003 (.mdb) the Date of Birth field has been set into Date/Time.

I have two Access database, say database One.mdb and Two.mdb. I want to use VB2005 to export tblCustomer from One.mdb to Two.mdb, and replace the existing tblCustomer in Two.mdb, during run time. I basically want to simulate the export function that is available in MS Access (which can export one table from one Access database to another) with VB2005 during run time. I can think of a way by querying the table to a dataset and then delete everything on the other database before filling the table in that database with the dataset

I am trying to import data from an access database to a access database that my project uses I am having problems with combo box fields in the database with the data. I want to import what is displayed instead of the numerical key value. Example: The combo box displays employee names but the value stored is the key value from the employee table so instead of importing John Doe it imports 2 is there a way to make the actual name instead of the number?

I've got a problem. I'm running a different thread. The thread's sub is looping, doing various things during the program, and eventually tries to close the form. I get an error, because the other thread can't access the "Me" object, I guess. It won't close the form. I don't want to use Application.Exit. Is there another way?

Asp.net has turned out to be alot easier to use than PHP (so far). However, I have been searching for a while and simply cannot figure this out. How do I get the variables that are contained in the url of my page (that originate from a form that had the method "GET") and utilize them? For example, my page would be [URL]. How would I get the value of some variable?

use of the shared function, which returns a reference to a datatable to the calling code. While there a probably many debates as to the preferred use of ADO.NET objects, my question is about the Shared Method aspect. Note that the dataTable is declared within the Shared Function, so it seems to me you get a new one every time, yes?
Public Shared Function MyData() As DataTable
Dim ReturnData As New DataTable

I want to access a 3rd Party application in the background with the SendMessage method. It just needs to send a "space" to the software to trigger an action. It is important that this is done in the background because its a periodic event (ca. every 10 seconds), and it should be possible to simultaneously work on the same machine.
I tried to use the same approach which is shown in [URL]
The code I used is as follows:
Const WM_CHAR = &H102
Const BM_CLICK As Long = &HF5&
Private Declare Function SendMessage Lib "user32" Alias "SendMessageA" (ByVal hwnd

I want a string and a listbox, both which are in a form to be modified by an instance of a class method. Should (could I):
1. Pass the entire form to the class method as parameter.
2. Pass the listbox and the string to the method as parameters.
What's the best approach to get access and modify this string and listbox on the form.

Inside my .aspx I have some JSON code that looks like this:
[Code]....
Basically what I'm doing is pulling text from two labels on one page, and sending them to another page by calling the "doIt" function which looks like this:
[Code]....
Just so I'm clear, the "doIt" function and the JSON call are on two separate web forms. My problem is that with the "doIt" function being Shared, I can't access any global variables of the class. And if I remove the Shared, my JSON doesn't execute.

I'm using VS 2010, and I did a project using VB and a database in Access. The problem is that when I try to put that "application" on other computers, sometimes, is not working. I thought it can be because on these computers they don't have access, but on one computer, is running another app which is using Access and there is no Access installed. How can I check if my application requires Access to be installed or not?
Here is a example of how I did the connection:

Function getConnection() As OleDb.OleDbConnection

And when I want to have access at the data I'm doing like this:

dim sql as string
dim ds as Dataset

I have a flat file that is sorted by account number. I am migrating an application that was in vb6 to .Net. The application uses Random file access and uses a binary sort method to find a record.
Here is the code
Do While (low < high Or low = high) And (f = 0) 'Checking for an account match
middle = (low + high) / 2
FileGet(FileNum, Record, middle)
If Account < Trim(Mid(Record.Data, Byte1Start, Byte1Len)) Then
[Code] .....
From reading up on this in .Net it seems that using the Binary Reader seek method would be the alternative to using old vb6 random access code. The problem is the Binary Reader Seek method goes by Byte position instead of record number. How to convert my code to use a binary reader.
