I've a simple class like this:
Public Class CalculationParameter{
public Long TariffId{get;set;}
}
In a workflow activity, I've an Assign like this:
(From tariffDetail In db.Context.TariffDetails
Where tariffDetial.TariffId = calculationParameter.TariffId).FirstOrDefault()
Dto is passed to Activity as an Input Argument.It raise following error and I'm wondering how to assign Id.LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'Int64
GetValue[Int64](System.Activities.LocationReference)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression.
How can I assign the calculationParameter.TariffId to tariffDetial.TariffId?!
UPDATE:Screen shot attached shows that how I'm trying to assign calculationParameter.TariffId to tariffDetail.TariffId (car.Id = Dto.Id) and the query result should assign to CurrentTrafficDetail object.
i am getting the xml using readxml method. And then display the data in datagrid. But number type columns comes as string type in the dataset. So when datagrid displays , sortingdatagrid columns is not correct. For example it sorts like this:
Salary

I am starting to play with extension methods and i came across with this problem:In the next scenario i get a: "extension method has a type constraint that can never be satisfied"

Possible Duplicate: C#: why does the string type have a .ToString() method?Why is there a ToString method exist in String class (VB.NET)?
String.ToString()
Will it be a overhead if it is used like
TextBox.Text.ToString()
in vb I can do that
sub SetFocusControl(byref ctl as object)
ctl.Focus
end sub
in c# the compiler complaint that object doesn't have a Focus method
void SetFocusControl(ref object ctl)
{
ctl.Focus();
}
how can I do the same in c#?
(using VB 08!) In order to avoid "magic strings", I have used this handy method (not my own!) many times to get a property's name as a string:

What happened when parameter passing. Here is a test project I write.
Public Class Form1
'1.test string
Private Sub btnString_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnString.Click
Dim str1 As String = "x"
[Code] .....
From the project you can see, when pass integer type parameter (value type) into a method , if use ByVal keyword, the value won't change. If use ByRef keyword, the value will change (I can understand it, to my understanding, when using ByVal, It pass the value of the argument to the method; when using BvRef, it pass the address of the argument to the method, so the value can be rewrite)
Well, for the following two scenarios , I can't understand why.
String type is reference type, but it acts like integer type.
Val type is also reference type, but no matter what you use(ByVal or ByRef), the result will be the same.
So my question is what actually passed into method? What's the underlying mechanism about pass parameter? What's the effect of ByRef and ByVal to value type and reference type?

I am currently using the registry to get file descriptions for files. As an example, so that a DOCX file will return the description "Microsoft Word". I am doing this from the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT registry key.However, registry access is extremely slow, and I need to do several thousands of these. Is there an alternative way to do this?
View 6 RepliesI have an interface ITest with a method GetResult(). I have a class Test which implements ITest and thereby defines private method GetResult().
Next I create an instance of Test in a different class. The code is as below:
Module NewClass
Public Sub New()
Dim i As ITest = New Test()
[Code]....
I am migrating existing code from VB 6 to VB.NET and hence I'm not supposed to change the access modifier of GetResult. Leaving it Private will throw InvalidCastException Unable to cast object of type 'System.Object' to type 'ITest'
Object type variable o is used in many places and hence I don't want to change that. And yes, Test implements ITest.GetMember with a different name.

I'm using VB.net Express with SQLExpress. I've got the reader working in my program, but I'm trying to find the best way to go with SQL access in my VB program. I need to be able to write fairly sophisticated SQL queries from many different tables and then either load the data into VB arrays or? in order to do some calculations and field selection. I'm not displaying any data on the screen, like so many examples out there seem to illustrate.

I've got a problem. I'm running a different thread. The thread's sub is looping, doing various things during the program, and eventually tries to close the form. I get an error, because the other thread can't access the "Me" object, I guess. It won't close the form. I don't want to use Application.Exit. Is there another way?
View 3 RepliesAsp.net has turned out to be alot easier to use than PHP (so far). However, I have been searching for a while and simply cannot figure this out. I want to access a 3rd Party application in the background with the SendMessage method. It just needs to send a "space" to the software to trigger an action. It is important that this is done in the background because its a periodic event (ca. every 10 seconds), and it should be possible to simultaneously work on the same machine.
I tried to use the same approach which is shown in [URL]
The code I used is as follows:
Const WM_CHAR = &H102
Const BM_CLICK As Long = &HF5&

I want a string and a listbox, both which are in a form to be modified by an instance of a class method. Should (could I):
1. Pass the entire form to the class method as parameter.
2. Pass the listbox and the string to the method as parameters.
What's the best approach to get access and modify this string and listbox on the form.
