Sep 8, 2009I have about 100 strings that depend on an integer value. There is potential for the list to grow to 255. What is the faster/preferred method of assigning the string based on the passed integer, a hash table or a switch statement. I googled around and can't seem to find anything that compares the speed of the hash table lookup vs. the speed of the switch statement. Is there an easy way I could measure the speed myself or any links to articles describing the performace of each method?

Mar 10, 2009I am doing a school project (in programming) on security, and i am focussing on MD5 hashing, this is a used way to store passwords, usernames etc. since i can't really be reversed..Now since i know that MD5 hashes are always 32 byte long there must be a limited number of different "hashes" even though 32 chars with 16 combinations each is a LOT of combos..Now, i will try to make a program where you put in a 32 byte hash and then, by using the principle above with limited hash amounts, try to find ANY string that matches the hash.I have already got code on how to create the MD5 hash but i need to know how to make the strings...it should hash:chr(1)chr(2)...chr(255)thenchr(1) & chr(1)[code]

Jun 21, 2011I have the following function for generating sha512 hashs. The hash is generated successfully, but is causing this error when the resulting string is passed to other functions:
Input string was not in a correct format
When debugged the variable holding the returned hash (set as string) is empty. I have tried changing the type to int, int64 and byte (array and standard variable) in the function and in the calling code, which causes various other errors. How can I change the datatype correctly to solve this?

The split function works for other characters I see in the string. I suspect the characters may be a non breaking space character but I've been unable to split on them. Table structures:
Employees: EmployeeId(PK) , FirstName, LastName
CafeLogs: LogId (PK), CashierId, EmployeeId, Value, => CashierId and EmployeeId are the data from column EmployeeId of Empoyee table
Table relationship:
Employees 1:N CafeLogs (CashierId (FK))

My session looks something like this 123-456-789- and I split it like this

And i've got a some code like this

Next
This writes the code like this
Ref: 123
Ref: 456
Ref: 789
Ref:
So it's adding an extra Ref where it shouldn't be because there is no data after the last -
Is there a way to stop this adding in the extra one?

For example there is a "capacity" column and a "country" column. I am doing a filtered list of projects on one page and I'd like to include all projects where any one of the associated projectVersions has a capacity of 750ml and a country of "France" for example.It may be that a particular parameter is not set and so I pass a zero to indicate not to filter on that.I guess this needs some kind of subquery as when I try and do something like this: [code] it doesn't work as the "xxx" bit, being one-to-many, expects me to specify an item to get at the entities within and yet I want to query where ANY of the associated versions match one of the criteria.
