Hash Password And Save Into Database Table?

Jan 14, 2012

I have a register.aspx and a login function and i am using vb.net

in my register.aspx...i have a user name textbox and a password text and a submit button. IF the user click on the submit button, the password will be hash and store with the username in the database table called "Customer"

1st Qn: i have a problem is that i never try before hashing, so i not sure how to code it , hopefully if someone got a sample or example to teach me it will be nice

2nd Qn: besides that, in my login function, how am i going to compare the hash value for password that is store in database with the password in the textbox to allow to login?

.net - Reason For Sorting A Hash Table?

May 29, 2009

I was asked by an employer to sort a hash table. I always thought that the usage of a hash table was in a way non-sort friendly. Am I wrong in thinking this, and if not can you point me to a good VB.Net(Yes Kill me now, but it's an old system) method of sorting a hash table.

VS 2005 Add Data To A Hash Table?

Mar 19, 2009

Currently I add data to a hash table, then later on I loop through the hash table. To my horror I discovered that when you use FOR EACH with a hash table it doesn't return the items in the order you added them.I'm looking for a collection that I can add, edit and delete items from and loop through from start to end in that order.

Hash Table Versus Switch Statement?

Sep 8, 2009

I have about 100 strings that depend on an integer value. There is potential for the list to grow to 255. What is the faster/preferred method of assigning the string based on the passed integer, a hash table or a switch statement. I googled around and can't seem to find anything that compares the speed of the hash table lookup vs. the speed of the switch statement. Is there an easy way I could measure the speed myself or any links to articles describing the performace of each method?

Save Data To A Table In A Database?

Apr 30, 2010

I am quite new at this so bear with me. I am trying to just download data, save it row by row into a database, then upload it (sorta a backup). I am using vs2010 and VB. The database I have in vs is a .sdf (not sure if i should remake as a .mdf) and the download of data is working fine. Saving it into a table isnt going so well. I am using a form to click a button to start the download, and most of my vb code is in another vb file. Making it into a method is causing me no end of pain due to the object refernce errors and nonshared reference errors. But I go to far for this. Anyways I tried to use

Compare Every Record In Excel File And Save To Database Table?

Nov 15, 2011

My query is i want to save record from an excel sheet to my Database Table.

But i dont want to insert the Excel sheet as a whole rather i want to insert the record in my database table Row wise.Inserting the records is not the only thing but my major issue is i want to check and compare the Primary Key column of my Table with the Column in my Excel.

Suppose Table1 is my Sql Database Table, and RegistrationNo is the Primary Key Column.Similarly there is also a column of Registration Number in my Excel Sheet.

Now before inserting each record the RegistrationNo column should be compared. If the a registrationNo in the excel sheet say RegistrationNo 112 is already present in the table then it should not Insert the record and if its not present then it should insert.

Also the other issue is the number of columns in my Database table are more than the number of columns in my excel Sheet. So the columns that are not present in the excel sheet should be set to NULL while inserting the record in the Table.

Determine If There Are Data Changes To Save / Update Back To A Database Table?

Feb 2, 2012

I'm using VB 2010 Express with a local Access DB. I am having trouble determing whether there are changes in a DataGridView to save back to the underlying DB.

The DB has been copied to the project directory and its properties (by selecting it in the Solution Explorer) include Copy to Output Directory: Copy Always, so I know that any changes I make when running a build will disappear on the next build. The problem I'm having is within a run / test session, working with the application.

The Access database has the following connection string, with Application scope:

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="|DataDirectory|Component MI.mdb"

Salt / Hash And Encrypt Pwd In Database

Im a final year student for COmputer Security / Forensic. Im planning to do a project which requires me to do encryption and decryption. My possible choice of language would be VB.Net. I was wondering if wad is running in my mind can be executed. Well, I would make a application where a part of it wil be promting the guest to register and I wanted to store the password in the database. I did some research and came across Salting and Hashing. I was wondering if is it possible to get the password which the user enters, salt it, hash it and encrypt it before I store in the database. If so, what is the best secured strong encryption can I use in VB.net. Because through out the research I have done, i have sen RInjdael as the most fav encryption algo which alot of programmers using.

.net - Store SHA256 Hash In Access Database?

Feb 4, 2012

how to store a hash in my Access Database. Now I have generated a hash by salting a user password with the User ID (not highly secure I know, but plenty for my purposes). I have also stored the hashed values in the database as Base64 strings (manually, I haven't yet developed the module to do that automatically), however, when I go to retrieve the hash from the database I receive the hex code in place of the string. This is the code for the login button:

Sub prcLogin()
'Log User in
Dim ds As New DataSet
Dim blnCorrect As Boolean

[code]....

But when I run this instead of returning a value like "rlzhYoiO4+vpdJdsrFq5Sj9VBJ+FFYhIg9V5+z+jeNI=" which I stored in the database, it returns a value like "5C6BED0D94

Save Data In A Database Table While At The Same Time Sending Standard Template Email

Jun 9, 2012

I haven't done any VB coding since school (15 years ago) but currently have a need to run what "sounds" a fairly simple app at work. I'm hoping some of you might be able to give me some pointers as to whether or not my idea is possible, and if it is, how best to approach it.

I work for a company where we send a number of standard emails to potential clients asking them to contribute to our magazine . if no response we then send a number of follow up emails. each and every time I send a new email to a new prospect I'm editing one of our template emails, putting their name and email address into outlook and manually sending emails. Then for every reminder I'm going back into outlook, clicking reply all and then c&p'ing our second or third reminder emails in each and every time. needless to say at least 2-3 hours of my day are spent editing and resending the same emails on outlook.
