Updating Password Field In MS Access Database Table

I have a piece of code that is suppose to update the password field when the user wants to change password but I get an error line:

I need to add a new field to an Access database table, the user has filled the table with data, so I have to add the new field but to preserve the old data.
I have found the ALTER TABLE statement, but it gives me an error (ALTER TABLE is not a valid statement)
I done this in php+mysql with "ALTER TABLE People ADD Address TEXT NULL AFTER Name" (as an example)
How can do this in VB2010?

I am creating a database in VB.NET for a movie rental place. I currently have three forms;
Member Information
DVD Information
Borrow DVDs
What I would like to do is when I am viewing a member's details, if I click a button 'Borrow DVD for Member', the member's ID number transfers over to the Borrow DVDs table in the Member ID which also would hold some information from the DVD Information table, but I'm sure if i can figure out how to do this firstly, I will be able to apply the same rule and work it out myself.I have been trying to use a query statement like;
INSERT INTO [Borrow DVDs].[Member ID] [IN goodstuffvideos.mdb]
SELECT [Member Information].[Member ID]
FROM [Member Information]
but that has been coming up with error codes and completely not working.
Borrow DVDs table fields are: Borrow ID, Member ID, DVD ID Number, Hiring Fee, Borrowing Limit?
DVD Information table fields are: DVD ID Number, Title, Rating, Hiring Fee, Borrowing Limit Member?
Information table fields are: Member ID, Family Name, Given Name, Address, Town/Suburb, Postcode?
The error coming up is; Error in INSERT statement. Unable to parse query text.And under that it says The query cannot be represented graphically in the Diagram and Criteria Pane.

As you can see below in the code the " & tblName & " will work fine but instead of using the BankName (which the user cannot change because it is in the code) I would like to do the same as I did with the Table name and use a variable that gets its name from an excel spreadsheet rather that an actual name hard coded in a VBA module. I would like the variable field name entered in the Excel Spreadsheet by the user just like the table name is filled in by the user. The problem is getting the ADO SQL string ( cmd.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE " & tblName & " Add Column BankName Char(25)" ) to recognize that the value in the Variable " & fldName & " is the field name to be used.

I'm a little confused about checking values in a database. What I want to do is see if a tuple such as the following exists:

The invoice_num is not null, it's blank: " ". What I want is to find if such an entry exists, where the invoice_num is " " and update it with a number entered into a textbox. I'm a little confused about if statements and cases in SQL, so if someone could point me in the right direction, that would be great!

I'm using an access database in a program that I'm making for my school, the user is able to select an item from the menu, then it sends it to a list box, there is also a textbox to put a quantity of how much of the item you want. I have a field in my database called Amout Ordered, I want to update it with the amount of each item ordered, and I can't figure out how.

This may seem like a simple problem, but I am completely baffled. I am working on a timekeeping application using Visual Basic 2008 Express and Access 2000.
There are three tables being updated by three separate sub routines. Two work fine, one does not.
In trying to resolve the issue I test one field at a time. The test Access query and the code only reference the one field to change and two ID fields. The program runs but the field is not updated. The table has 42 fields to be updated when I get it working.
The Access query is:

UPDATE tPPSummary SET W1MonHours = [@W1MonHours]
WHERE EmployeeID=[@EmployeeID] AND PPID=[@PPID];

When I pause the running program at the intRowsAffected it shows 1 record which is correct.
I am really out of options as tho where to go from here. There are no simple spelling errors in the parameters, there are no error messages and the sub runs to the end.

I have a datagrid that is loaded from a data source called ManualKanbanDataSet. The Access DB is ManualKanban, the table is "Parts". I've set the column properties of the column I want to change to readonly=false.

I have an access database called BKWThermDB1. Within than I have a table called THERMOWELL_DATA. within this table I have a column called QuoteNumber. All I want to do is search that column for an existing number so I can let the user know that this number already exists and to create a different number. I am implementing a system where the user can Reset their password if they have forgotten it.Once it is reset I want to give them the option of changing the password so that it will be something more memorable to them.The password is hashed and if i enter in the correct old password and new password the password does change.If I enter in the wrong old password and new password the password doesnt change.Is there a way to match the old password with the old password field in code behind so I can throw up an error to the user to tell them what is wrong? I am an old VB2 programmer and in the process of moving up. In VB2 I could obtain a data row via and index on an access table. I can not find an example on how to do this. I can retrieve a single row using a query, but an index would be faster. I know in Oracle use can use a hirt to direct the query to use the index.Here is what I was during in VB2 (Sample) with no hint.

I have a register.aspx and a login function and i am using vb.net
in my register.aspx...i have a user name textbox and a password text and a submit button. IF the user click on the submit button, the password will be hash and store with the username in the database table called "Customer"
1st Qn: i have a problem is that i never try before hashing, so i not sure how to code it , hopefully if someone got a sample or example to teach me it will be nice
2nd Qn: besides that, in my login function, how am i going to compare the hash value for password that is store in database with the password in the textbox to allow to login?

I'm trying to figure out why my adapter is not updating my SQL database table. I have a form with 3 data grid views on it. If the user changes the display index, width, or visible properties of the columns I want to save their settings. For some reason the adapters update runs without error, but when I check the database table nothing is updated, why? Does it have something to do with the TableMappings?

i have create a software for my college which is document management. well am doing good so far up to now where i need to upgrade my database what i mean ?
in case i need to make any changes to my database i don't want to enter the database and create new table or add new fields to existing table to my current database,i would like to do that throught visual studio 2010 programaticaly. something like an additional application where i will choose my database path and the application will upgrade the database with new tables or new fields .
