I have two tables Employees and CafeLogs. Some employees can be cashiers and also customers at the Cafe shop.
Table structures:
Employees: EmployeeId(PK) , FirstName, LastName
CafeLogs: LogId (PK), CashierId, EmployeeId, Value, => CashierId and EmployeeId are the data from column EmployeeId of Empoyee table
Table relationship:
Employees 1:N CafeLogs (CashierId (FK))

Since i already have the 1st table adapter the second does not appear as easy as the second (dragn the data set over).
So i suppose i need to create the second table adapters programmatically? [URL]..I see that because they are not nested they need to each be declared.. right? If so that is where my issue lies. I'm having a problem with how to declare them both now that there must be two.
I have a situation where a database table is updated with records inside a loop. Every record in this table has a parent child relationship with another table. This child table is also updated subsequently inside the same loop.I am creating the datatable for Parent table and adding records inside the loop, but committing the records in the database (using SqlCommandBuilder) outside the loop only once.
Inside the loop I am also calling the function for updating records in the child table. Because the adaptor and datable objects are created inside the child table function, I need to commit records in child table inside the function only. So this happens before commit of parent table. Because there is a PK-FK constraint in the database, an error is generated.
Simplest solution would be to bring all code inside one function. But I don't want to do that. Besides this parent child relations can go upto any levels.

I am using a number of tables on my application and two of which have a foreign key constraint I have set between them. When I change the account number on the main table via a combo box all of the relevant information for that table on the form is updated accordingly. However, the child table which has a foreign key reference to the Account Number of the main table is not updated when the acocunt number is changed. I have set the update to cascade in the references but still am having issues.

The above does not work. However, the following does:

I am pretty sure it was working in th past (I have recently switched to VS 2010 - could this have anything to do with it?) but it is not working now.

It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:
1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.
2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.
I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.
1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?
2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. I have a table (Projects) which is linked to projectVersions on projectID..projectVersions contains several columns on which I'd like to filter a returned project (and associated projectVersions) list. For example there is a "capacity" column and a "country" column. I am doing a filtered list of projects on one page and I'd like to include all projects where any one of the associated projectVersions has a capacity of 750ml and a country of "France" for example.It may be that a particular parameter is not set and so I pass a zero to indicate not to filter on that.I guess this needs some kind of subquery as when I try and do something like this: [code] it doesn't work as the "xxx" bit, being one-to-many, expects me to specify an item to get at the entities within and yet I want to query where ANY of the associated versions match one of the criteria.
View 1 RepliesThis may seem like a simple problem, but I am completely baffled. I am working on a timekeeping application using Visual Basic 2008 Express and Access 2000.
There are three tables being updated by three separate sub routines. Two work fine, one does not.
In trying to resolve the issue I test one field at a time. The test Access query and the code only reference the one field to change and two ID fields. The program runs but the field is not updated. The table has 42 fields to be updated when I get it working.
The Access query is:

When I pause the running program at the intRowsAffected it shows 1 record which is correct.
I am really out of options as tho where to go from here. There are no simple spelling errors in the parameters, there are no error messages and the sub runs to the end.
I have a datagrid that is loaded from a data source called ManualKanbanDataSet. The Access DB is ManualKanban, the table is "Parts". I've set the column properties of the column I want to change to readonly=false.

I have produced some VBA in Access that creates a spreadsheet.I have also created an SQL query that retrieves records from an Access table.I have 48 tables (each table for a specific institution centre).I have created another bit of VBA code that creates a spreadsheet and loads the records from the query in to the spreadsheet.Each centre has a unique Sequence Number (Indent Number)At the moment though, all I can do is import one table (records for one institution) in to a spreadsheet. I want to end up with calling the function and having an output of 48 spreadsheets being saved to my desktop, each spreadsheet containing records of a different center.I have thought about putting a loop in, but not sure how I would quite go about it.

I have a webpage with a form that is used to edit some object. This object contains a Collection of other objects defined like this: Public Overridable Property Employees As List(Of Employee)
On a form I can delete an employee, add a new one or modify existing one. When I click save new values are sent to the server. On a server I check if the user exists. If exists then I modify its values, if it does not exist then I add it. All employees that exist on the server and were not sent are marked as deleted (State changed to EntityState.Deleted). I try to use the following code (dbCollection = database entities, newCollection = collection sent from the form):

This code does not work, because changing to EntityState.Deleted removes the object from collection, and for each loop breaks, since the collection is modified...I know that I can overcome this problem by using a for loop or adding objects to delete to some other list first, but I hope maybe there is a pattern that would make my code nicer.

I can retrieve a single row using a query, but an index would be faster. I know in Oracle use can use a hirt to direct the query to use the index.Here is what I was during in VB2 (Sample) with no hint.

I have a data table whose one column is related to a column of another table. I have a listbox in a form which shows a column (which is sorted by another column value by ORDER clause) of the parent table and other columns are in textboxes. The child table is represented by a datagrid. When I add a new item in parent table and click save, the newly created item is listed at the bottom of the listbox violating my ORDER clause. Header, Detail and Customer.My form contains a Binding Navigator and I can click the "New" button, fill in the data and then when I press "Save" the data is written to my 3 tables BUT, the foreign key fields in the child tables contain NULL Values. The primary field in the Parent Table retains the correct data. So when I try to go back into the database the Parent record is displayed but no Child data because those records couldn't be linked in.
Once I am back in viewing the Parent record and then input data in those fields belonging to the child tables and press "SAVE" then the new records are saved just fine. It only seems to be when trying to create a new Parent record with Child records.

I have a Database with the following tables, PolicyHolder, Beneficiary, FinacialDetails, Gender, Nationality, Relationship, Income. They are all linked by ClientID primary key of the PolicyHolder table.
When i'm adding my data in the Beneficiary table using a DataGridView i get an error when im adding the second entry saying - FK ClientID already has a value and this value cannot be duplicated. I want the FK ClientID value to be saved on every record i enter under Beneficiary.
I'm Using vb 2008 and an access DB.I have 2 tables in the DB which is transaction and products.When a Customer Buy product the transaction will record and the stock of that product will deduct accdg to the quantity bought by the customer. Myproblem is products table didn't update. Stock of that product still didn't change.

When I make changes to the Customers table (Delete a Customer for instance) It does not reflect the changes on the Efficiency table. The default form is Efficiency and I'm calling the Customers form from within the Efficiency form. I make the change in the Customer form, I then close the Customer form and call the Efficiency form back. The data is not updated on the Efficiency side until I close the application and re-open it. what code I need and where to inject this code?

Business layer communicate between 1st and 3rd layer. here my problem is I want update some tables through transaction batch. Here I am facing logical concept who to update transaction batch in business layer or data execution layer.
I have three tables Tasks, Notes & CallTypes Each item in Tasks and Notes has a relationship to CallTypes and my form edits work fine. However: Notes only belong to tasks, and when i update the note record we will need to change the CallType for the Task as well as for the Note and they could both be different.
I have the Notes working fine, but i cannot update the tasks. I have created a databindng on to a form from the datasources window. All the notes fields are ok and are working I then add the calltype field from the tasks, draged from the data sources window (i dont want all of the tasks fields, just the calltype).
The code does not through up errors, but when i save the form it only updates the notes and not the tasks.
I need to display data from many tables using a datagridview and I was wondering if this can be done using the JoinView class.I have used it before, but with one child table only. Now I have more child tables and I was wondering which approach (if many) would be the best.
