View 4 RepliesMy intention is to load my data from access database through datagridview but it keeps telling me the same error. This is the exact error message I've gotten.. it threw an oledb Exception stating: Could not open table 'MSysAccounts' in the workgroup information file. I've been browsing and viewing different resources but I still do not find a solution to view my data in datagridview. Few things I've tried:
1. I originally uses Ms Access 2007 to load, but it does not seem to work well, hence i converted it into Ms Access 2003 format. Same error displayed.
2. Working around with the workgroup in Access 2003, creating new workgroup which creates System.mdw file and I replaced it in:

I'm working on my first Visual basic program and I've hit a snag. I want to make a working search form that pulls data from an access database that i already have linked into my visual basic program.
Basically when they click search, i wan't it to check the textbox (lets say firstName.text box for now) for there name, then find all the entries in my database that have those names and display them in a grid.

I am able to view and edit the data using a DataGridView on a second form (tutorial made this very easy). I need to work with the data in the table within the application. how to easily load the entire table into an array or even read the table a row or cell at a time so that I can make all of the data available for manipulation within the application (the tutorials only seem to show how to display the data).

View 4 RepliesI have several sets of similar objects (labels, progress bars) on a form in Visual Basic 2010 on Windows. In my code, I have collections that contain data, which needs to be pushed into the value/text property of each.
I would like to get a solution similar to PHP in that I can assign values somewhat like:
For ID as Integer from 0 to count(collectionExample)
lblExample{ID}.Text=collectionExample(variableID)
...and as such to loop through so each of the different lblExample's were updated to their corresponding value.
The issue I have come to is that I cannot seem to reference an object on the form using a variable. I have also tried using something like
CallByName("lblExample" + variableID, "Text", CallType.Set, exampleCollection(variableID))... however I still can't combine the string and variable to reference the object.
Any solutions on referring to objects in VB2010 by combining a string prefix and a variable string identifier, similar to PHP's $variable{$variable} approach?

View 11 RepliesI would like to access to a SQL Server Database from my Visual Studio project.
I have SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed on my PC and I have a database with some tables.
In Visual Studio, I open the Database Explorer and I try to create a database connection.
The Add connection dialog box proposes to enter a database *file name* but I cannot select a database *server* and a database *name*.
Perhaps, is it a restriction because it is a free version ?
Within Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition, I can select a database *server* and a database *name* !
i seem to have a problem when i try to update a certain record in an Access 2007 Database. I have a small Access 2007 database with 1 table which has 3 Columns and several records. The 3 columns are RecordNumber (Primary Key and it is autonumber), FirstName(text) and LastName(text). What i am trying to do in VB 2008 is implement a search form which when you find a record you can update it. I do not have any problems with the search, but i cannot seem to edit any other record than the first one. For example i search for John which exists, if that record is the 3rd record when i try to edit it whatever changes i make (for example change that to James), the changes i make are made to the first record and not the current one. I tried a lot of things but nothing works, here is my code:

I am creating a database in VB.NET for a movie rental place. I currently have three forms;
Member Information
DVD Information
Borrow DVDs
What I would like to do is when I am viewing a member's details, if I click a button 'Borrow DVD for Member', the member's ID number transfers over to the Borrow DVDs table in the Member ID which also would hold some information from the DVD Information table, but I'm sure if i can figure out how to do this firstly, I will be able to apply the same rule and work it out myself.I have been trying to use a query statement like;
INSERT INTO [Borrow DVDs].[Member ID] [IN goodstuffvideos.mdb]
SELECT [Member Information].[Member ID]
FROM [Member Information]
but that has been coming up with error codes and completely not working.
Borrow DVDs table fields are: Borrow ID, Member ID, DVD ID Number, Hiring Fee, Borrowing Limit?
DVD Information table fields are: DVD ID Number, Title, Rating, Hiring Fee, Borrowing Limit Member?
Information table fields are: Member ID, Family Name, Given Name, Address, Town/Suburb, Postcode?
The error coming up is; Error in INSERT statement. Unable to parse query text.And under that it says The query cannot be represented graphically in the Diagram and Criteria Pane.

I was a COBOL programmer agout 15 years ago and I am now just getting into Visual Basic. The owner of a local business has asked me to write a program to perform what I think is a simple task. In the past the business would process payroll checks and print them in-house. Now they are using direct deposit. Checks are no longer printed. The check stub though is printed. This stub is then carried to each of 10 locations across West Tennessee and distributed to the employees.
This is my task: capture the stubs to a file (PDF, XPS) and email it to each employee. This way the employee will recieve the stub on the same day the deposit is made. I can capture the output file (the stubs) and save it as a PDF file or a XPS file. I can send an email from within a program. What I don't know how to do is open the PDF or XPS file, read the email address and insert the page into the email body.
I have been given a task to:Develop a program where a child will be presented with picture of a fruit (one of five possible fruit) on the screen at the click of a start button. The child will then try to recognise the fruit and write its name in a specified place on the screen. On the click of a check button the name of the fruit written by the child will be checked by your program and if correct will reward the child with a suitable message. If the name presented by the child is not correct, a suitable message should be presented on a red background with the correct name of the fruit included in the message.
so far I have managed to create a form with 5 different fruit pictures and a text box below them. a button at the bottom of the form then checks the results and presents a message box to tell them if they have passed or failed.

View 2 RepliesAs you can see below in the code the " & tblName & " will work fine but instead of using the BankName (which the user cannot change because it is in the code) I would like to do the same as I did with the Table name and use a variable that gets its name from an excel spreadsheet rather that an actual name hard coded in a VBA module. I would like the variable field name entered in the Excel Spreadsheet by the user just like the table name is filled in by the user. The problem is getting the ADO SQL string ( cmd.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE " & tblName & " Add Column BankName Char(25)" ) to recognize that the value in the Variable " & fldName & " is the field name to be used.
Sub AddFieldToAccess()
Dim cnn As ADODB.Connection
Dim cmd As ADODB.Command

'If I do this I end up with a field named BankName what I need is the name in the variable " & fldName & "
cmd.CommandText = "ALTER TABLE " & tblName & " Add Column BankName Char(25)"
cmd.Execute , , adCmdText
Set cmd = Nothing
