If I comment out Response.Write MyClass.test(), everything works fine and I can use the Class - however, trying to access the Shared method, I get the following error: Local variable 'myClass' cannot be referred to before it is declared Any pointers as to what I am doing wrong?

I am trying to create a DLL from a class library in Visual Basic.
First I created a new Project in Visual Basic Express 2010 as a class library. Then I added a class which contains a function that I want to access in another program. This is why I want to export the class library as a DLL. In visual studio I am compiling the project which refreshes the saved dll in the bin folder of the project directory. When I open this dll or include it as a reference in another executable visual basic project, it does not find the function. how to generate a dll from a visual basic class library properly?

But since MyEnum isn't defined in the subclass it won't work. I am not very familiar with what these types of things are called, but I think that I am import a type definition of sorts. Since I am Importing, and not defining, it is only available in the first file. Basically, I want to include MyEnum as part of the class but I don't how to do it. I don't want to copy/paste it over, and I don't really want to write Imports ... at the top of all of my subclasses.

I seem to be drawing a blank. I'd like to create a "shared" variable that is shared with all instances of a class but not classes that inherit from it. For example.Class A: Shared list As New List(Of String): list.Add("A")
Class B Inherits A: list.Add("B")Class C Inherits B: list.Add("C")The end result I'd like is that any instance of A has just A in the list. Any instance of B has A and B in the list. Any instance of C has A, B, and C in the list. I can accomplish it by creating Instance variables, but I have to construct the list for each instance of a class. I'd like to construct it once for a specific point in the Hierarchy and then share it accross other instances of that class.
This is another one of my "I think it's not possible but I need confirmation" questions.I have a base class for a bunch of child classes. Right now, this base class has a few common properties the children use, like Name. The base is an abstract class (MustInherit)Technically, this means that everytime a child class is instantiated, it lugs around, in memory, its own copy of Name. The thing is, Name is going to be a fixed value for all instances of a given child. I.e., Child1.Name will return "child_object1", and Child2.Name will return "child_object2".
View 1 RepliesNetShareAdd API from a VB.NET application (.NET version 2.0) and although I can get the API to just create a basic shared folder I now want to create a shared folder and specify its Share permissions (not NTFS permissions) as well, which means I have to pass in a SHARE_INFO_502 structure rather than just a SHARE_INFO_2 like I was previously doing for creating a basic share. I have spent over 5 hours solid just trying to get this working and am getting to the point now where I really cant think of anything else to try.I've encountered several problems whilst trying to make this work but the one I am finally stuck on is this: When I call NetShareAdd it returns the error INVALID_PARAMETER and the parm_ err object (which is supposed to specify which member of the SHARE_INFO_502 structure caused the error) holds the value 501. I know it is something to do with the security descriptor because if I comment out the line where I set the SHARE_INFO_502 structure's shi502_ security_descriptor field then the code works without an error (just obviously does not set the share permissons I want).I think posting all of the code here might be a bad idea as its currently over 150 lines long (yes that is only code for getting this API working...) so I'll just post my definitions of the SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR structure and the code I am actually using to call the various APIs involved: [code] Each of those API calls prior to NetShareAdd returns a non-error value in the Debug.WriteLine that is done after each one, but there is obviously an issue somewhere with the security descriptor.

I am just wondering how I can add Direct X references to Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. I cant find them in the .NET reference list, or the reference list, or anywhere. I downloaded the Direct X SDK for August 2009, but I can not add the .dll files to the reference list. Is there anything I can do to add them? I need the references for programming reasons.

when the user clicks on the add button another form launches, which enables the user to add student info such as name, address, course, start date and end date, this information is then written to class when the ok button on that form is clicked, and then displays the data on the initial form in data grid. the user can add multiple entries and they are all displayed on the intial form and a the data grid is populatedwhen any of the rows in the displayed grid is selected, and the update button is clicked then the same form launches as the previous one and but this time its in the update mode and pre populates the form with the inital values.

I am now asked to create a .net application and I'm trying to create a "Hello World" starter app. I opened my Visual Studio, click File-New Project and all I see is Business Intelligence Projects and Other Project Types. My step-by-step guide says choose Visual Basic, Windows Forms Application. But I can't see it as an option.
