I'm using an access database in a program that I'm making for my school, the user is able to select an item from the menu, then it sends it to a list box, there is also a textbox to put a quantity of how much of the item you want. I have a field in my database called Amout Ordered, I want to update it with the amount of each item ordered, and I can't figure out how.

I am attempting to run an update query on a Microsoft Access Database File and am not having any luck with the update. It appears to update the RecordSet but not the actual Access Database (when I run the following code, close the debug window, then re-open it a field referring to the Count_Value column reflects the update). I have an access table that I'm loading into a dataset, then I'm binding the dataset to a bindingsource. The bindingsource is the datasource for a datagridview. I can use a command builder to update the entire table, but I need to update all the rows (or changed rows) in specific columns. I have a column called "dPrint" which is Boolean. I'm not sure how to use the bindingsource as my datasource in an Update Command. I've tried this:
View 8 RepliesI have got problem when using the SQLCommandBuilder class. For me it throws an error saying that the select statement does not return any primary columns.... Which is weird becouse i am sure it does since the select statement is "SELECT * FROM MyTable" I am prety sure that selects everything including the primary column which is set to primary , realy i checked and doublechecked.
Secondly i tried to manually set the column(0) as primary by setting it's property bu no such luck of making it work.

This Functtion fills the dataset and returns it to my main program where i do lovely stuff with it. (Just as a side note this is a SCADA system and i always need the entire DB which is never bigger then just a few ( 6 ) entries so i must go for "*" ^^). Good part is, this works like a charm, i love it. Now i need to reset a few status bits etc and i assume with the update command. And that is where my joy starts to get stomped on a bit.... The code:

Now this would have been a great and small sollution to updating datasets with the server but obviously it doesn't work. There is that pesky error about my table having no primary key and I know it's lying it just want to annoy me :P. But seriously I am puzzeld why that error wont go away and i have exhausted all the tutorials i can find on this.

The 'either or' is really for you guys. I am trying to update a row or a single cell in ms access through vb.net. But when i update the text box named NRIC, say for example i want to update "s4522147B" to "tr4521856C" and mean while leaving the other fields the same.

I am developing a new project for my daily office use using access database with vb 2005.
In this project I have one bounded datagridview and it is ready to use.
I want to alter a particular field value in the datagridview regularly. so whenever I click the rowheader that particular field should be editable with a combobox with some value, after selection of the value and leaving that particular cell it should be updated with the appropriate record in the database.
After making the changes or adding a record I use invoke childmethod from my toolbar to call these subs. The first table updates and adds, but the second does not. I have set all of my textboxes databindings and double checked them. I get no error, but it does not update the second table. What am I doing wrong?

What I'm trying to do - VB 2005 express and sql 2005 express editions - Trying to set up just a basic hardware/software inventory program. As is I've got separate tables for computer and software licenses...with ComputerID and LicenseID primary keys respectively...where I'm bumping into walls is that I wanted to be able to link them together with a foreign key, for example the computer record would have a foreign key for LicenseID and when a license would get installed the ID would go in and there'd be a nice pretty link. However I run into scenarios where a computer might not have any software installed...or might have more than 1 software item. Or a single software item may be installed on 1 computer, multiple computers, or nowhere. It possible to have that single foreign key field link to multiple records from the opposite table?
What was originally suggested to me was to have a 3rd table called Installations. It'd have 3 rows...one named InstallationID as the primary key, and 2 foreign key rows named ComputerID and LicenseID that linked to the other tables, so that when a license was installed, a record would be added to the Installations table, and later on when we wanted to see where all a particular license was installed or what licenses a single computer had, the table could be filtered by computer ID or license ID and all matching records could be displayed. When I tried that out though I'm having a heck of a time getting the correct items to display.
Just as a basic test i set up a new form and dragged the tables onto it from the Data Sources window using "Details" view for each of them, so that it set up the table adapters and binding sources and navigator for me. I got rid of the auto-added labels + textboxes on the form and added just a couple new textboxes, 1 linked to the licenseID and one to another row i had in that table for productkey...tested it and it moves through the records fine and the correct data shows up in each box to correspond with the other. now though I'd like to add another control to display each of the ComputerIDs that are linked to the particular license being displayed in the other controls via the foreign keys routing through the Installations table, but I'm not having much luck.

I am attempting to modify DBaseIV files using ADO in .NET I am able to open and read the data with no problem but everything is showing as read only and there is no way (at least that I can find) to perform Updates/Inserts/Deletes to the underlying Database table.
There seems to be almost no documentation that I have been able to find dealing with DBASE files. I have found a few references that BDE (Bordland Database Engine) needs to be installed and used for changing DBASE database files. However, it appears that BDE must be purchased. I found one reference that indicated ADO Jet 3.5 would work but 4.0 would not. Then I found another that said 4.0 had been updated to include Update/Insert/delete SQL interfaces.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for being able to modify a DBASE IV database table using ADO (or some other method within .NET) It is currently not possible to change from DBASE to another database structure this may be coming in the next year or so but will still need to perform modification to DBASE files for the forseable future.
