C# - Value Member Property Repopulate Control

Jun 2, 2010

I just wanted to confirm couple of things.
I) Code snippet:
cmb1.Datasource= dt;
cmb1.Valuemember = "value";
Does the control rendering happens 2 time for the control, 1 more time extra because of the value member getting changed after data source assigned. Is this so?
II) How can I trace these re-populations in C#? I just wanted to debug and see and confirm?

Property Not A Member Of Interface?

I have an Interface defined like this:

Public Interface ISegment

Repopulate A Combo Box On Another Form

Jun 26, 2009

I have a form that among other things displays a list of customer names in a combo box. Should the person that launched that form not see the customer in that combo box they can launch another form that will allow them to add the missing customer. The 2nd form adds the customer name to the customer table and the customer information to the customer information table - the 2 tables are related by the CustomerID.I have no problem saving the record to each table but in the process of saving the customer name to the customer table, I would like to refresh the combo box on the 1st form so the newly added customer is displayed in the combo box it was previously not found in.Each time the new customer is added I would like to update the combobox with the new customers name so the user of that form can use it to complete the task it was designed for. I have tried "frm.combobox.refresh", "My. frm. combobox.refresh", changing focus to the first form - none of which worked.

Repopulate ListView In Program?

Jan 13, 2009

I have an Excel file I need to leave undisturbed. I can loop through it and populate a ListView with columns during form load. After that I want to repopulate the ListView, changing column headers and presenting the same data in a different order or with some columns absent. If I created my Excel application As Object when loading the form it is obviously no longer available from a new button as the button is Private. What is the convention for doing this? Does ADO.NET work with Excel? I want to keep the data source invisible (.visible = False) yet manipulate it for the ListView. I could create a text fiile from the Excel and loop through that in each button code. That seems a poor way to do it. There will be no input from the user, just reading from 22 columns displaying only 3 or 4 of them at a time in ListView.

VS Project Fails To Compile: Property Not A Member Of A Referenced DLL?

Aug 27, 2010

When I try to compile my VB.NET web project, I get an error that reads:[PropertyName] is not a member of '[Namespace.Class]'The class referenced is part of a dll that the project references. The property definitely exists in the referenced class, and its access modifier is Public. What's more, if I update the reference, or just remove it and add it back, the error goes away: the intellisense shows my property -- all is fine.. that is until I try to compile again. Then the error returns. I've even restarted Visual Studio to no avail. What is going on?[UPDATE]After Will's comment, I've changed the namespace to something I am absolutely sure is unique. Now, I am getting more compiler errors of the same genre. The compiler is not recognizing some of the overloads although they are right there in intellisense. Weird!

Asp.net - Pass URL Parameter To Repopulate Page?

I currently have a page that is populated using a filter, which passes the parameters of the filter via URL.

I'd like to catch those parameters and give the user the opportunity to return to the page with the same filter applied to their view. Essentially, it's a back button. AKA: pass the parameters back into the URL so it repopulates the page.

Order Of Creation Or Adding To The Parent Control Determines Whether Or Not A Control's Dock Property Supersedes Another's

i frequently have troubles with the dock property. it seems that either the order of creation or adding to the parent control determines whether or not a control's dock property supersedes another's. e.g. a control with the dockstyle fill will overlap with another docked control on the same parent. does anyone know what the rules are to determine how docking will behave; particularly in dynamically created GUIs?

Bind Control.Text Property To Control Position In FlowLayoutPanel?

Jun 6, 2012

Is there a way to bind the text property of a control to an expression? I have a user control that I add to a FlowLayoutPanel. You can see I have 4 controls in the FlowLayoutPanel below. The first control is a LinkLabel and the other three are my user controls which are numbered 1, 2, & 3. I'd like to bind the label that shows the 1, 2, or 3 to the user controls index within the FlowLayoutPanel.

If I happen to remove the 2nd user control I want the 3rd user control to now display 2. I could use the FlowLayoutPanel ControlAdded or ControlRemoved events, but wanted to see if I could do some binding first.

Bind Property Of User Control To One Of The Parent Control's Fields?

Dec 30, 2011

If I need access to the value of a user control's property BEFORE PreRender, would I need to base the custom control off of one of the preexisting data controls (repeater, listview,etc.)?One of my user controls features a gridview control that is configured based on the user control's properties on which it resides. Several of the key properties alter the SQL Statement for the underlying recordsource. I'm now in a situation where the property that sets the WHERE statement for the SQL Statement needs to tied to a value in the user control's parent FormView. Think of the formview as displaying a customer detail record. The user control takes the customer's account number and then displays data from a related table such as Customer Contact Names. Since the gridview is created before the control's prerender event, working within the prerender event doesn't seem efficient.

VS 2005 Configuring A Datasource Value Member & Display Member

Jan 6, 2011

I have 2 tables Table A & Table B Table A has the table values that I want to be populated in a datagridview control.The challenge is that column 1 in table A contains an ID(foreign key) to a name field that is a located in table B. I need the datagrid to have the first column be a combobox that displays the names(from Table B) that are already in table A via the ID's, but reference the populating values from Table B. So that when you bring down the combobox you would be choosing from Table B data but populating table A with the ID and you would see a name there instead of an ID.[code] How do I populate my DS dataset with Table B? And how can I create a link to these two tables using a bound datagridview control?

.net - The Member 'X' Was Changed To Be Inconsistent With The Association Member 'Y'?

Jan 3, 2011

I get this error if I follow these steps: Change property Y of an object (an associated entity property)
Attempt to submit changes At this point the value of Y and the value of X (the underlying key) are not in agreement -- LINQ to SQL apparently doesn't synchronize these until GetChangeSet is called.An expected error occurs due to some business logic or database level constraint during the update operation.At this point the value of Y is in agreement with X because GetChangeSet was called.Change the value of Y to Nothing (aka null).Call GetChangeSet.

The error occurs on the last step because the value of X and the original value of X (returned by GetOriginalEntityState) are different, and the new value does not agree with Y? Is that why? Is this a bug in LINQ to SQL. Must be because I don't see the same behavior if I change Y to another (non-null) value instead during step 5. What's the right way around this? I can see a few ways:

Discard the DataContext when an error occurs and leave the UI as-is. I don't like this because then optimistic cocurrency change conflicts cannot be detected. The new context doesn't have the original values in it that were populated at the same time the UI was populated, so if the UI has any stale values in it, they will cause data in the database to revert.Refresh the datacontext (OverwriteCurrent) and leave the UI as-is. I don't like this for the same reason as #1.Refresh the datacontext (OverwriteCurrent) and re-populate the UI. I don't like this because then the error message just presented to the user does not show the user the error they made and allow them to correct it. It also discards all the other changes the user may have made.When the error occurs, explicitly retrieve the key for Y that corresponds to the original value of X and reset Y, then call GetChangeSet to re-synchronize X (X is read-only or private so I can't reset it directly). This seems to work, but seems like a hack, and may require lots of code for other similar errors.

ComboBox / Binding / Display Member & Value Member

Aug 31, 2011

I know I have done this before and as I remember it should be really easy. But for some strange reason I can't do it now and I am about to jump off the building.I will make it simple:Two tables, one is just a list of products and their code.The other table: "details" has a field named product. I want to store only the code there.In the second table's entry form, I am putting a combobox. This combo box should display the list of products, their names, but depending on which one is selected, the code is what is passed to the table "details". Currently If I set the display member to product and the value member to code it still pases the product to the binded data source.

In C#, Implement An Interface Member Using A Member With A Different Name?

Apr 4, 2011

in VB.NET you implement an interface like this...

Sub SomeInterfaceMember()
Implements ISomeInterface.SomeInterfaceMember
End Sub

while in C# you do it explicitly like this (which can only be called via the interface)...

void ISomeInterface.SomeInterfaceMember(){}

or more simply, implicitly like this...void SomeInterfaceMember(){} // Note the name matches the interface member However, regarding VB, I can also do this...

Sub SomeRandomMemberName()
Implements ISomeInterface.SomeInterfaceMember
End Sub

In other words, the method that handles the implementation can have a completely different name than the interface's member name.I'm just wondering if there's something similar to this in C#. (Yes, I know I can simply do an explicit interface, then access it via another 'wrapper' member with a different name that simply delegates to it, but in VB.NET?
