VS 2008 Property 'Events' Shadows An Overloadable Member?
Sep 19, 2009
Warning1property 'Events' shadows an overloadable member declared in the base class 'MarshalByValueComponent'. If you want to overload the base method, this method must be declared 'Overloads'.

I have another question about my customizable Menu/Tool/StatusStrip control.
I have three controls called CustomizableMenuStrip, CustomizableToolStrip and CustomizableStatusStrip. Each of those controls has a property called Appearance, which accepts an instance of a component called AppearanceControl.
The AppearanceControl component basically exposes all color properties for the customizable strips, so the user can edit them, and more importantly exposes a ToolStripProfessionalRenderer which the three strips have to use. This way the three strips are rendered with the colors the user chooses in the AppearanceControl.
Now, I'm wondering if I'm doing things the right way. When any of the color properties in the AppearanceControl has changed, all the strips that use that particular AppearanceControl should have their Renderer set again, and should be invalidated.
I figured the easiest way (and probably the only way?) to go about this was to have the AppearanceControl raise an event (AppearanceChanged), which the three strip controls listen for. When that event is raised, the strip controls can set their Renderer to the Renderer that the AppearanceControl exposes, and then invalidate themselves.

I have an Interface defined like this:
Public Interface ISegment
''' <value>
''' The offset where the span begins

The problem is that when I try to use the interface in another class, it tells me that Offset and Length are not members of ISegment. Clearly they are. Here is the code that uses the interface
Public Sub UpdateSegmentListOnDocumentChange(Of ISegment)(ByVal list As List(Of ISegment), ByVal e As DocumentEventArgs) Implements IDocument.UpdateSegmentListOnDocumentChange

I just wanted to confirm couple of things.
I) Code snippet:
cmb1.Datasource= dt;
cmb1.Valuemember = "value";
Does the control rendering happens 2 time for the control, 1 more time extra because of the value member getting changed after data source assigned. Is this so?
II) How can I trace these re-populations in C#? I just wanted to debug and see and confirm?

When I try to compile my VB.NET web project, I get an error that reads:[PropertyName] is not a member of '[Namespace.Class]'The class referenced is part of a dll that the project references. The property definitely exists in the referenced class, and its access modifier is Public. What's more, if I update the reference, or just remove it and add it back, the error goes away: the intellisense shows my property -- all is fine.. that is until I try to compile again. Then the error returns. I've even restarted Visual Studio to no avail. What is going on?[UPDATE]After Will's comment, I've changed the namespace to something I am absolutely sure is unique. Now, I am getting more compiler errors of the same genre. The compiler is not recognizing some of the overloads although they are right there in intellisense. Weird!

I have a winforms app and my code works fine. But I want to know if my code is bullet proof or if it only works without load.Let me explain it:I have a windows form where I have overridden the OnKeyDown method:
Protected Overrides Sub OnKeyDown(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs)
dim args as new ActionEventArgs(ActionType.Bark)
RaiseEvent Action(me, args)[code].....
Now I have a class that is registered to this event and, if it knows how to handle the ActionType it sets Handled to true.
Public Sub actionHandler(ByVal sender as Object, e as ActionEventArgs) Handles me.Action
If e.Handled then return
If e.Action = ActionType.Bark[code]....
I tried this code at my developer machine and it seems to work. In the OnKeyDown Method, everytime I query the Handled variable, my actionHandler method did run first. But I asking me if this is only the case because my developer machine is in idle state and the event queue is processed so fast or can I expect the
RaiseEvent(...)
method to wait until every registered EventHandler has finished it's taks?

I'm using the standard code for form drop shadows that creates an effect identical to that of XP's, but you will notice in Windows 7 that the shadows are much larger, are not visible only on the right & bottom sides of the form (example: [URL])
Here's the code I'm currently using:
Private Const CS_DROPSHADOW As Integer = &H20000
Protected Overrides ReadOnly Property CreateParams() As System.Windows.Forms.CreateParams

Is there a way to expand the shadow to resemble Windows 7 more?

I'm "cloning" objects in my code. For instance: objClone = objOriginal My question is: Does the assignment operator in VB.NET 1.1 do a member-by-member copy of the objOriginal to objClone or does objClone simply point as a reference to memory referenced by objOriginal?

I have a listbox with several list items added. I want that as user click on an item, I should be able to show its property. This should change for different items. For example (hypothetical) : Listbox has numbers 1 - 10. Now when I select 1 I should be able to set property - Name, Lastname, Colour, Age.
When I select 2 I should be able to set - Age, Hair Colour (clr shows), Weight, Date. When I select 3 then - City (combo box drop down), Country, Age only. This way value changes for diff items. One way is to put them in property grid and show them. Though this looks nice but adding/removing items in that is not easy. You need to have a class that refer that to prop grid. Do I have to code for each classes for all values in listbox or is there an easier way to manage items in property grid. If you think prop grid is not the right tool for such an activity then can you suggest something else.
