C# - Control.DataBindings.Add Breaks With Period In Data Member Name?

Mar 1, 2011

I am trying to add to a binding using Control.DataBindings.Add(). The issue that I am having is that the data member name has a period and space in it("Foo. Bar"). When I try to add the binding I pass in the string "Foo. Bar" as one of the arguments and I get an exception "CAnnot find datamember "Foo.".Is there a syntax that I need to use to pass the datamember name in when it has a period in it? I tried adding "[]" around the name but no dice.

TextRate Control Should Accept Only Numbers / Period And Backscape Key

Oct 16, 2011

I'm beating my head against the desk on an advanced level solution in the VB 2010 book, and can't figure out what I am doing wrong. This is the exercise: JM Sales employs 8 salespeople. The sales manager wants an application that allows him to enter a bonus rate. The application should use the rate, along with the 8 salespeople, in an array, to calculate each salesperson's bonus amount. The application should display each salesperson's number (1 through 8) and bonus amount. as well as the total bonus paid, in the interface.

1. The txtRate control should accept only numbers, the period, and the Backscape key.

2. A one-dimensional array should be used that has elements initialized to the following sales amounts: 2400, 1500, 1600, 2790, 1000, 6300, 1300 and 2700.

I have the interface created and its error free (for now) but its not doing what its supposed to do. It's supposed to show something like this. I can provide screenshots if necessary. [code] but what I get is a list of 0.00's in all of the above fields. What am I doing wrong? Heres the code finally, sorry if I was overly descriptive. This is my first time doing one of the advanced exercises, maybe I should go back to intermediate.

C# - Value Member Property Repopulate Control

Jun 2, 2010

I just wanted to confirm couple of things.
I) Code snippet:
cmb1.Datasource= dt;
cmb1.Valuemember = "value";
Does the control rendering happens 2 time for the control, 1 more time extra because of the value member getting changed after data source assigned. Is this so?
II) How can I trace these re-populations in C#? I just wanted to debug and see and confirm?

Access Data Member Of Combo Box?

Nov 29, 2010

I have a combobox that is bound to a BindingSource that contains a custom object with multiple Properties.

Is there a way to access a Datamember that is not displayed in the combo box and display it elsewhere. For example, When a user selects a name from the combo box, texboxes (or Labels) populate with Title, PHone, email, etc. All of this data is loaded in the custom object that is bound to the datasource so the info has already been pulled from the db and is in memory.

How To Get DataBindings To Be Two Way When Property Changed

Nov 11, 2010

I'm having trouble using DataBindings in a Windows Form / User Control. For example: Create a windows form, place a single text-box on it & place two buttons on it. The code behind the form is:

Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class Form1
Implements System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanged
Public Event PropertyChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.PropertyChangedEventArgs) Implements System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged
[Code] .....

If you type something into the text box & press Button1, you'll get a message box with the text of the property in it. If, however, you press Button2 (which sets the property in code) and then press Button1 again, you'll see that while the property was indeed set in the code, the text box doesn't reflect the change.

Updated the code to provide the implementation of INotifyPropertyChanged. This now works as desired.

VS 2005 Configuring A Datasource Value Member & Display Member

Jan 6, 2011

I have 2 tables Table A & Table B Table A has the table values that I want to be populated in a datagridview control.The challenge is that column 1 in table A contains an ID(foreign key) to a name field that is a located in table B. I need the datagrid to have the first column be a combobox that displays the names(from Table B) that are already in table A via the ID's, but reference the populating values from Table B. So that when you bring down the combobox you would be choosing from Table B data but populating table A with the ID and you would see a name there instead of an ID.[code] How do I populate my DS dataset with Table B? And how can I create a link to these two tables using a bound datagridview control?

Run-Time Databindings - Form With Many Different Textboxes

Jun 2, 2010

I have a form with many different textboxes on it. The form is used to Edit the data already in a databound table. At design time I set my Databindings.text to the appropriate columns.

During form load I check the values in the bound column for null values. If the column value is null, I set the textbox.text property to a descriptive prompt like "enter telephone #" or enter city. I also use databinding.remove to remove the databinding so that the desriptive prompts don't wind up in the database.

Here is the code I use to remove the databinding.

For Each Panels In Me.Controls

PBox = TryCast(Panels, Panel)

[CODE]...

.Tag2Defaultphase is a custom property I have defined which holds the default descriptive prompt. If the user enter a value into the textbox I then wish to add the bind back so that when I updateall with the tableadapter the value will be transferred back to the appropriate bound column.

Here is my code for that:

Sub perOptionalTBoxValidation(ByRef TBControl As custTextBoxControl, ByRef strDefaultTextPhrase As String, ByRef intMaxChars As Int32, ByRef bsBindingSource As BindingSource, ByRef strColumnName As String)
