We used to save all settings to registry for user settings, servername, size and locations.so we are now saving them into My.Settings app.config the only problem is that each time there is an update clickonce will isntall the newupdate but now all settings are loist and user has to save everything all over again..
I am trying to follow the book here but it seems i keep getting stuck somewhere. registry has worked fine for years but i understand we must move on, but if stuff like this happens then i just wasted a long time converting all code to conform for it to not work..
Way To Do Settings Once And Apply To Many Forms?
Jan 28, 2011I'm working in VS 2008, on a windows application.I have many forms, and I'm in the process of redesigning the GUI.Is there anything that I can do to standard some of the placement of the controls. For example, I have a header for each page, at a certain size and location. Instead of going to each form, is there a way to do the settings once, and apply to many forms?

For example I want to get all the keys and there values from "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun". This will allow me to see all the startup items. Is there a way that I can get all the values and display them in a checked listbox. I tried using the GetValue but it seems that you have to set the key that you want.

Change Registry Settings Via Program?
Jul 9, 2010We have a VBScript that launches an Access app that connects via ODBC to SQL Server - wouldn't you know the server name is changing.
Is it possible to use VBScript to modify the ODBC information in the registry to point to the new server? Basically changing one specific value for one specific key. Am I better off deleteing the ODBC key and readding it from scratch?

VS 2008 Error Catching With Registry Settings
Nov 4, 2009I'm editing some settings in the registry and then adding items to a ListView.

If I'm not mistaken, the code will not continue in the Try block if the first part fails and then move on to the catch statement, correct? I'm adding and deleting a bunch of different entries in the registry and the computers I've tried my app on so far, have not failed. So I'm not able to test if this method will work for error catching. If there's a better method, I'd appreciate the info.
App Not Load User Scope Settings When In Starts By Registry Run Key?
Aug 17, 2010Why does my app not load the saved user scope my.settings when it starts by way of the registry run key? This key starts programs after the user login, per microsoft. So why does it not load the saved user settings? The program does start up, but all the areas on the form where saved user scope settings should be, are the default values (mostly empty strings). (The user scope settings are there if I start my program by the desktop shortcut
I've looked, searched, posted to other forums, but can't seem to find an answer.

Nov 8, 2009I'm trying to create an app to launch at start up that will ask you what applications you want launching, or if you want all your favorite app's to start up etc. But before I go any further, I think its crucial to know how to save settings that a user has entered (such as program location and name in this case) so that he/she doesn't have to enter them every time at start up.

The purpose of this is to revert any new changes back to the original configuration. My application checks the state of each of the registry keys on startup. Is there a way to have it save the current configuration and then reload that configuration later ?

VS 2008 No User Settings When App Starts At Windows Start Using Run Key In Registry?
Aug 10, 2010I know similar questions have been asked/answered, but after looking across the net for 2 days I still haven't really seen an answer to the following question.rst, background info: My application starts at windows start as a user checkbox option (by using the run key in the registry.) I don't know if it is usual or not, but when the app auto starts on windows start, no saved user settings show up on the form (but they do when starting the program manually after windows is already running). I've tried both HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. In case anyone needs or wants it, my code for accessing the registry is:

Jul 10, 2008I couldn't find an appropriate forum which would suit the type of problem I am facing so I am putting it here.I needed to create an intranet web application that has pages with hyperlinks to eml files. The eml files as is known are email files in MIME format which outlook express can open. However what I found was if eml files are on your machine, it opens in outlook express but when opened as an hyperlink, it opens in Internet Explorer (IE) as an mhtml file. And any attachments that may be in the eml file are not displayed at all!I didn't understand why IE has to poke inbetween. After searching the net, I came across a solution that required changes in the Registry of the client machine.The change is to be made to the node HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTMIMEDatabaseContent Typemessage/rfc822.The following is a REG file that can be imported for this change.[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTMIMEDatabaseContent ypemessage/rfc822]"extension"=".eml""CLSID"=""However after this change, though eml files opened in Outlook express, MHT files stopped opening in IE.Then I simply deleted the rfc822 node and to my surprise, MHT files opened in IE and eml files opened in outlook express and everything was fine!!But I don't want to use this sledge hammer solution. Feb 20, 2010project im working on for my course,the idea is a photo printing machine that loads up 4 images if usb stick is checked and a different 4 if memory card is checked. and then whatever image is selected appears in the big picturebox on the left [URL] i have 2 print size options set as radiobuttons, radiobutton 1 = 6x4, which costs 25cent per photo, radiobutton 2 = 8x10, and is 50cent per photo.i also have a textbox which will display the number of copies to be printed So here's my dilemma, when the print button is selected alongside one of the radiobuttons i want it to display a message saying something like this "you have selected (whatever the amount of copies)of this photo sized 6x4, or 8x10 depending on which radiobutton is selected, and i want it to display the total cost which is the number of copies multiplied by the rate for the print size selected, then an option saying "Do you wish to proceed" Yes or No.

Got A Checked Listbox On Form Which Saves The Checked Items?
Jun 6, 2012I've got a checked listbox on my form which saves the checked items to a spot in my database on the .ItemCheck event.But there's a problem, when I begin checking items, I check the box and click off it, but it doesn't save. (This is if I've only chosen one item)
If I choose two or more items it will save, but unchecking them takes a lot of clicking around to figure it out.Is there a better event that I can use? I've tried the SelectedIndexChanged and that has the same result, there's a lot of clicking around in the checkboxes to end up with the desired selected items, and it does not allow a single item.
