I am having trouble opening these files on VB 2008. I basically need to open them so I can have a better idea of how to program i.e. look at the source code. I ended up looking at the code via note pad but I had to create the forms, buttons, etc. I then copied the code and I am getting errors all over the place, specifically "statement is not valid in a namespace.
At home I use Visual Studio 2008 Pro but a class of mine is trying to have us use Visual basic 2005 express edition. Since we need to submit source code files will there be a problem if I just submit the .vb file instead of the whole solution?
I have both the VB and C# versions of Visual Studio 2008 Express. When I run a console application in either version, instead of the console opening in an old DOS style command window like it does in VS 2005, it actually blacks out both monitors attached to my computer and treats the entire screen real estate as the console.Anyone know how to get the app to run in a small command-type window when I run it? It's like the console is running Full Screen. If I set a break point, switch from the IDE t the console and then hit Alt+Enter it switches to the small window that I want, but I still can't figure out how to make the app start with the console that way.I could post a screenshot but it would look like a big black square...no window, no frame, just the inky blackness of frustration.
I got the following code snippet, but it shows errors in 3 places, the error is type "item name" not defined. I underlined and made bold where the errors show up below'Firstly retrieve data from Access database
Dim con As OleDb.OleDbConnection = New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=E:myDB.mdb") con.Open()
How hard is make listening connection? Game? Program? Example: Server where people can connect? Just ready opened connection example where another program connects or something? (Console where you see when people connects and disconnects.....=>)
I have used "buttons" and linked using "process" to files on my C drive but need to have the files added when compiling. What code will I use to ensure all documents and files are copied & available so that I can compile and use on CD.At present buttons do nothing because of not seeing the link to the files.
I get the error message: "Format of initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0" What does this mean and how can I get the database to open in vb express 2008?
I'm using VB Express 2008 and I would like to open an excel file and save it with different name file. For example, I would like to open a file in C: est.xls And then I want to save them with different file name such as C: ry.xls
What is the code to open a text file and append data to it, in visual basic express edition?Normally one would write:open "data.txt" for append as #1 but visual basic express does not accept it.
I made a VB6 project.I have read a lot on VB6 to VB.Net.I want to open my VB6 project in Visual 2008 Express. I realize that a converter will run through Visual 2008 Express (I understand my code will have to be changed then/updated), but will there be any permanent changes done to my VB6 project files?
Before I try to open it in the new .Net, I want to make sure nothing messes up my original VB6 files.
Does anyone has a sample code that do like,Open and select excel file and select the exact excel sheet to import then connect to SQL server 2008 and append all the data from the certain sheet to the SQL table?
When I'm in VS2008, and I go to File > Open Project/Solution, it won't let me select a .vbp file type when I have it set to Objects of type "All Project Files (*.sln; *.dsw; *.vcw; *.rptproj; *.dwp" (it looks like it's cut off at that point). Why can't I open a .vbp file with Visual Studio 2008?
Iam using a PDF file as 'n Manual. It opens perfectly on my machine , but it does not open on the client computer.I set the reference up and think it should work. Asyou can see in the picture.

I am currently writing a program in VB 2008. Here is what the program is intended to do: I need it to have two forms of input, so I want it to open existing text files and create new ones. Once the user has selected what input to be taken (either a file is opened or a new one is made, guessing multiple forms need to be used here) the user will then take the text file either created or opened and then be able to click a button which will sort all the text in the text file into alphabetical order and then display the results to the screen. While this happens, I need the words in the file to be counted by a counter (so a loop i guess) that then displays on which line each word appears on. I then need this information to be displayed in a text box on screen.
Am looking for away to have an area in the application window to display the open files and folders basically whats open on the task bar. Also if the above is possible is there away to have this clickable so if something is minimized it will open upon clicking it.
I'm trying to create something that will intercept requests to open a file or folder in Windows Explorer. So far, the only thing I can come up with is that I need to make a file system filter driver.
Dont know how easy this would be, but basically I'm just wondering if there is any way in VB.net you can close open files on a remote PC.In my scenario the vb.net app would be running with domain admin permissions in most cases so would have access to things like the remote Computer Management console, which of course has the Open Files section in it which lets you close any open files on the remote machine its connected to.So I fugured there must be some way to do it in vb.net... I just dont know if its going to be more hassle than its worth and I dont really know where to start looking (ive used googled but not had much joy).
how I can implement my calendar with VB .net express 2008 and MSSQL 2008 Express. How do I get it to work with datasets, binding source etc.If I go to Properties>settings my connection string is:

I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.
Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.
I am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.
there Dream in Code Community!
