At home I use Visual Studio 2008 Pro but a class of mine is trying to have us use Visual basic 2005 express edition. Since we need to submit source code files will there be a problem if I just submit the .vb file instead of the whole solution?
I get the error message: "Format of initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0" What does this mean and how can I get the database to open in vb express 2008?
I'm using VB Express 2008 and I would like to open an excel file and save it with different name file. For example, I would like to open a file in C: est.xls And then I want to save them with different file name such as C: ry.xls
What is the code to open a text file and append data to it, in visual basic express edition?Normally one would write:open "data.txt" for append as #1 but visual basic express does not accept it.
The program I am trying to modify was initially written using VB 2005 Express. I have subsequently downloaded the 2008 version. The program creates a monthly spreadsheet from a template. The old code that will no longer (highlighted and underlined) compile is as follows:
I am trying to use the open file dialog box in VB 2005 to open up an existing txt, or rtf file from a directory into a rich text box. I am able to get the Open file dialog to appear and the directories, but when I try to open the file it doesnt import it into the text box. Here is the code I am using
I would like to open the excel file after create the excel file. The creating file function is done, but the system unable to open the excel file. My coding as below:
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application Dim xlWorkBook As Excel.Workbook Dim misValue As Object = System.Reflection.Missing.Value
I am having trouble opening these files on VB 2008. I basically need to open them so I can have a better idea of how to program i.e. look at the source code. I ended up looking at the code via note pad but I had to create the forms, buttons, etc. I then copied the code and I am getting errors all over the place, specifically "statement is not valid in a namespace.
I couldn't find an appropriate forum which would suit the type of problem I am facing so I am putting it here.I needed to create an intranet web application that has pages with hyperlinks to eml files. The eml files as is known are email files in MIME format which outlook express can open. However what I found was if eml files are on your machine, it opens in outlook express but when opened as an hyperlink, it opens in Internet Explorer (IE) as an mhtml file. And any attachments that may be in the eml file are not displayed at all!I didn't understand why IE has to poke inbetween. After searching the net, I came across a solution that required changes in the Registry of the client machine. The change is to be made to the node HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTMIMEDatabaseContent Typemessage/rfc822.The following is a REG file that can be imported for this change.[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTMIMEDatabaseContent ypemessage/rfc822]"extension"=".eml""CLSID"=""However after this change, though eml files opened in Outlook express, MHT files stopped opening in IE.Then I simply deleted the rfc822 node and to my surprise, MHT files opened in IE and eml files opened in outlook express and everything was fine!!But I don't want to use this sledge hammer solution. I want to know what this registry key is for and how can I set it to achieve what I want . i.e. open eml files from web pages in outlook express without affecting other file types
I have both the VB and C# versions of Visual Studio 2008 Express. When I run a console application in either version, instead of the console opening in an old DOS style command window like it does in VS 2005, it actually blacks out both monitors attached to my computer and treats the entire screen real estate as the console.Anyone know how to get the app to run in a small command-type window when I run it? It's like the console is running Full Screen. If I set a break point, switch from the IDE t the console and then hit Alt+Enter it switches to the small window that I want, but I still can't figure out how to make the app start with the console that way.I could post a screenshot but it would look like a big black square...no window, no frame, just the inky blackness of frustration.
I got the following code snippet, but it shows errors in 3 places, the error is type "item name" not defined. I underlined and made bold where the errors show up below'Firstly retrieve data from Access database
Dim con As OleDb.OleDbConnection = New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=E:myDB.mdb") con.Open()
How hard is make listening connection? Game? Program? Example: Server where people can connect? Just ready opened connection example where another program connects or something? (Console where you see when people connects and disconnects.....=>)
We use VB to create an HMI for an industrial environment. Currently, the computer we use has VB2005 Express Edition installed. When the application is developed, we take the Release folder which contains 7 files and place in on the computer with a shortcut to the executable. My boss stumbled upon another integrator that has a single executable. They apparently can stick this executable on any computer and it will run. He says that the "visual basic runtime" is included in the executable and it "just runs".I know just enough about VB to do what I need to do and am not overly familiar with all the inner workings. I seem to recall VB5 & 6 having a single executable as long as the runtime was installed already.Does VB2005 have the capability of a single executable?
I am trying to connect VB 2008 express with sql 2005 standard edition on a reomte server. Is this possible or VB 2008 express version limits this Can some one guide me with the connection string to achieve this.
I have noob question. I made a dataset of a sql express 2005 database using the designer. So it's a typed dataset. Then I declare some tableadapters and fill them. Now I do this to add a record to my dataset:
Private Function SaveOrder(ByVal controlenummer As Integer, ByVal PK_BaanID As Integer, ByVal starttime As DateTime, ByVal stoptime As DateTime) As Integer Dim orderRow = dsIntveen.tblOrder.NewtblOrderRow orderRow.Controlenummer = controlenummer orderRow.FK_Baan = PK_BaanID
I made a VB6 project.I have read a lot on VB6 to VB.Net.I want to open my VB6 project in Visual 2008 Express. I realize that a converter will run through Visual 2008 Express (I understand my code will have to be changed then/updated), but will there be any permanent changes done to my VB6 project files?
Before I try to open it in the new .Net, I want to make sure nothing messes up my original VB6 files.
Am a 1st year student of IT Management, i have been trying to install VB 2005 and/or the VB 2008 Express from msdn and also from disc given to me from college but it wouldnt download coming up with an "Error 1935". what does this mean?
I have been learning about working with databases and VB. I have coded the connection string for a MS Access database to my VB project but i cannot establish a connection with my sql mdf database.
The code i used to connect to MS Access is:
<Dim dt As New DataTable()/> <Dim match As String = ""/> < Dim connStr As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _
[Code]....
What is the connection code in order to manipulate data from the mdf file. Is it similar to the above code.
I have Windows Vista Business on my machine and running visual studio 2005 (Version 8.0.50727.867 (vsvista.050727-8600)) as well as "ENU Service Pack 1 (KB926601)" and "Update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition - ENU (KB932232) "I'm trying to connect to SQL server 2008 Express via Visual Basic and I've gone through all the forums to try to resolve my issue and it seems that I have to install " Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Support" However, when I try to do this I keep on getting the error "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the programme to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the programme.
On my computer I've VB.net 2005. and also office 2007. I try to open an excel file like that
Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _ ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
would like to know if it is possible to have my application launch and open a file which will be called todays date. its just a simple text file and i am basing it on the streamreader style function.
The following code works to check if a file exist, but I need to also check if the file is open. How would I do that?
If System.IO.File.Exists(Application.StartupPath & "players.txt") = False Or System.IO.File.Exists(Application.StartupPath & "preferences.txt") = False Then bla bla bla End if
When the main program is doing it's routine, it is looking at, and using, data from the two files. So, when the user pauses the program by opening the control panel, one or both of the files may still be opened. When the control panel tries to open them, it causes an error.(I am guessing that to just tell it to close them will cause the same problem if they are already closed.)
I am new to SQLSever, Visual Studio and Visual Basic. I have read through Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 by Michael Halvorson and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 by Lars Powers and Mike Snell. These books mention the ability to use SQLServer as the DB but I am not clear on the process. I am not knew to programming an have had training in OO programming but have never done any OO programing professionally. So, you can assume I am new to OO programing.
I have created an SQL DB using the Server Explorer in VS, and created a Windows form with Labels, TextBoxes, and ComboBoxes for the application's user to add the demographic information about a new employee. I created a new query with the Query builder that is in the Employee table of the DB which contains all the field for the record for inserting. I have a few questions to understand the process for inserting into the DB.
The DB fields are defined as numeric(6, 0), nurmeric(5, 2), and char(30) for some examples.
The maxlength on the form windows are in sync with the maxlength of the DB for the various fields.
1. What is the process to update the DB with the fields from the form?
2. Do I need to declare and set the results from the form first? If so, how do I call the function (query) that I created in the Employee table.
3. The emp_num I would like to be a dynamically incrementing number starting from 1000. How do I make this a dynamic? The emp_num is also the key on the Employee table.
4. I have a decimal field on the Employee table to hold emp_rate (pay rate). Does the user enter the decimal on the Form or is this resolved by SQL to take the 7 numbers and insert the decimal beause of the table's field definition?
