View 4 RepliesI have a text reader and I wish to parse the readline string data in double.[code]...
I do not necessarily wish to define the split to interpret double space as separator as I do not know whether this is always the case. I would rather like to tell the program that there are three double format numbers -> go and parse.
in parsing a string which is delimited by space in to a Double Array
View 1 RepliesI have a DGV with a column bound to a Double. When I enter "1%" I get:
System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
I then try: MsgBox(System.Double.Parse("1%")) and get essentially the same error. (same for "$")
Is there a setting that will allow "$" & "%" as not only valid Double input but also do the correct adjustment for "%"?
I am trying to put the following command into a FOR / NEXT loop but I can't parse the variable correctly The first line looks like this:
[Code]...
This form works in VB .NET
sendMsg = "<CStatus timestamp=""0"" " & _
"type=""login"" " & _
"cid = """ & cID & """ " & _
"key=""" & loginKey & """ />"
But I can't get it work in C#
sendMsg = "<CStatus timestamp="0"
type="login"
cid="" + cID + ""
key="" + loginKey + "" />";
It does not give the same effect. I want this as an output:
<CStatus timestamp="0" type="login" cid="var_cid" key="var_key"/>;
Is there any stringXml command in C# or another way to use double quotes in string?
Solved it with XmlTextWriter
I have a CSV file where the values are in double quotes and seperated by a comma. I'm getting incorrect data if I try to seperate the string with my Split function. How do I do it?
Example:[code...]
Is there a better way to parse percentage to double like this?
Dim Buffer As String = "50.00%"
Dim Value As Double = Double.Parse(Buffer.Replace("%",""), NumberStyles.Any, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) / 100
I'm trying this in two application; a console application and a web application.
In the console app when I try Double.Parse("0.5") it gives 0.5 or Double.Parse(".5") gives 0.5
But in the web application Double.Parse("0.5") gives 5.0 and Double.Parse(".5") gives exception
Input string was not in a correct format.
how can resolve the issue in web app?
I have a field that I display via: String.Format({0:c},amount) This produces the string "$28.28" However, when I try to convert back to a decimal amount, I get an incorrect format exception: amount = Decimal.Parse(amount.Text, NumberStyles.Currency) I also tried it with NumberStyles.AllowCurrencySymbol with the same results. I verified that the value in amount.Text is "$28.28". Am I missing something? Shouldn't these two operations use the same currency symbol and formats?
View 2 RepliesI have written a program that uses an array of the english alphabet and Morse code. I also built a form with a input box for the alphabetic information and an output box with the Morse Code. What i am trying to do is basically type a word like "Hi" in the input box and produce the Morse Code equivalent in the Morse Code output box. [Code] This works but only one letter at a time. Do i need to Parse the string of characters one at a time, and then run it through a loop like i have created?

View 4 RepliesI've been just making random programs trying to get the hang of the new language this time I was making a leap frog game where it switches back and forth beetween frogs every time a button is pressed. It also checks if the frog can land in the text box above the button pressed, if there is another frog there a message box will pop up saying sorry space is filled other wise the frog should land there.
[code]...
The error message says "Conversion from string "frog1" to type 'Double' is not valid." I understand what a double is but I've tried And If and that causes a bunch of errors.My Question is whats wrong with this cod and how can I make a double if statement???PS I did try to make an array to shorten this but thats in a different fourm will post URL later
I have an third part dll that have a function that returns a string.When I call the function I got for example "123456" back. At least it seams like that, but when i do mystring.length it does not return any length. If I set the text property of a label it shows "123456".
When I have the string I got from the dll I send it to a webservice function:
rem call dll and get string
dim mystring as string=mydll.getstring()
rem Send it to the webservice
webservice.SaveString(mystring)
The webservice crashes with an webexeption ("protocoll error") when I send in the string I got from the dll. If I instead send it like this:
rem call dll and get string
dim mystring as string=mydll.getstring()
rem Send it to the webservice
dim FixedString as string = mid(mystring,1,6)
webservice.SaveString(mystring)
Then it works and everything is fine. That leads me to think that the string I got from the DLL is in someway not terminated correct.And I dont know how to fix it from vb.net (I cant change the DLL)and I dont know in beforehand how long the string will be.The dll does only work on site when specific hardware is connected so I can't sit at the office trying to fix this in dev-environment. So I would like to have some possibly solutions to this before I go to the customer again.
Edit 1:I tried to just do a loop that looped from 1 to 100 (because I dont know the real length) and tried to copy all characters that <>"" to a new variable but it didnt work. I didnt try other variants because the day was over and I had to leave the customer site.
Edit 2:The DLL Im talking to is made in VB6. That DLL is talking to other DLLs that is made in C++ (I think).
My program < - > vb6-DLL <-> c++-DLL <-> hardware
I have been unable to correctly convert a string to date. The string is read from a text file and placed into a string, below is a snippet of how the text file is read until the date is field is read:
Dim varOrderNo As String
Dim varDate As String
Static Dim currentrow(20) As String
[Code] .....
I have then tried loads of different ways to convert it to a Date so when I then write it to a SQL Database it enters as a date. The string read from the text file is in the format of 13122011. If I don't try to change it to a Date before writing to SQL it doesn't recognise it as a date and sets the field to 01/01/1900. I have tried and searched loads online and everything i try should work but doesn't.
Dim varDateConvert As Date
varDateConvert = CDate(varDate)
varDateConvert = Convert.ToDateTime(varDate)
varDateConvert = DateTime.Parse(varDate)
All of the above cause my program to drop out / crash at the point of the converting.
I have also tried to format the string to insert the '/' before converting:
txtDate.Text = varDate.Substring(0, 2) & "/" & varDate.Substring(2, 2) & "/" & varDate.Substring(4, 4)
varDateConvert = DateTime.Parse(txtDate.Text, Globalization.CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture("en-GB"))
The result for the above is:
From File: 13122011
Substring: 13/12/2011
Convert: 12/13/2011 - Crashes here
I am making a change to an existing process. Currently the csv file (which can have embedded "," with the field in quotes), i being passed as an
IO.StreamReader parameter pStreamReader.
dim vLine as string = pStreamReader.ReadLine
dim vFields () as String = vLine.Split(","c)
Well ... obviously the split does not work with embedded commas in a field. Looked at TextFieldParser, but it is in the FileIO class and the module is passed a IO.StreamReader. Can it work?
Or how abour a RegEx? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have look around on the internet and it seems like a common questions with a bunch of wild goose chases.

I am writing some code which needs me to parse the integer from a string. For example:
Dim str as String = "300ML"
I need to store the 300 to an Integer and discard the "ML" from the end. I can't seem to find a sensible way of doing this other than using RegEx. However, for the life of me I can not get my head around RegEx.

I am trying to take a string that I have marked up through vb.net code and cross-check it with the text file it came from originally. This is for proofreading the html output.To do this, I need to parse an HTML snippet that does not come from a URL.The examples of HTMLAgilityPack I have seen get their input from a URL. Is there a way to parse a string of marked-up text that does not include a header or similar parts of a well-formed webpage?

I am trying to parse a particular attribute/value pair from XML in VB.NET. The XML is originally a string that looks like XML but it needs to be converted to an XML-like datatype or structure before I can parse it. How can I convert this string into XML, and then parse the info that I need?

I would like to parse a string to extract embedded parameters. [code]...
I split on the colon, then check each entry for the string "image", when found, I then extract the next entry.
I would like to use the ParseQueryString()method which works fine with equal signs and no spaces. Does anyone know if this method can work with other delimiters and spaces?
I am writing a VB.NET application which needs to extract data from an XML document. The Dataset.ReadXML function would be suitable, if the XML document was held in a disk file. However I would prefer the XML document to be passed via a string property of my class object, not as a disk file.
Is there a way to make the ReadXML function take its input from a string instead of a file ? If not, are there other functions which can be made to parse XML which is held as a string.?
