View 19 RepliesI have a string I want to parse. I could write the code to do so, but I figured that VS.NET has a parser that should do this for me.however, I can't find it. All the searches I do return info on how to parse numeric values in string form into real numbers. It would be nice if the MSDN search had some ways to allow users to enter more details than just search text and 3 ways to filter out irrelevant stuff. In any case, I also tried things like string.parse (nope - although I kinda figured this would be it.) I also looked at Enum.parse, but the code indicates that it works with arrasy of items, not strings.

I want to search a list for a given string, and if it matches, then print it out. If it doesnt match, then it moves to the next item in the list. If if doesnt find any matches, it says "no matches found".

I have to scan through documents. Excell, Word, txt, ect looking for company names that match a pre-difined list of companies.I then email the companies some specifics in regards to that doc.The problem I have been having recently is that the list of companies keeps growing and I am starting to miss some more than I used to.What I would like to build is a tiny app that has 2 Text boxes.1 on the left for input (where I would copy/paste) the document text I receive.and one on the right for the output where it will highlight any line that contains the name of any of the pre-defined companies.
I started toying with the idea and so far I have form with a SplitContainer. Within that SplitContainer each side has a TextBox... Below the Textbox on the left hand side splitcontainer I have a submit button with no actions currently assigned to it.
I need to test a string of text that needs to contain a certain type of char values. The known is allowing of a-z,A-Z,0-9. But the variable (which will be coming from a database field) will be the allowed symbols. The allowed symbols will look something like:!@#$%^&*()
So using regex, how can I check a string of text to make sure it ONLY contains a-z,A-Z,0-9 AND the allowed symbols as shown above? Remember, the allowed symbols is dynamic at run time so I need to somehow be able to plug that in to the method at run time.
The following examples would be valid using the above symbol string:

The following example would NOT be valid:Test1234%_

I have two forms. on the first form I have a button which calls another form that has a List Box.
When I select the value from the list box and click on the apply button then the value should be
passed to the first form that will also have a text box. The text box should contain the value of

I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I'm lost as how to change this string into the form (nnn) nnn-nnnn. This is what I have

My program creates a array of numbers as entered by a user and then finally adds them up. The form should be able to display the numbers typed in by the user. I know how to put one of these numbers into separate labels and could display each number that way but I wanted to know if there is a simple way to display the string that is created as a list in perhaps a read only text box or similar?

I have a field that I display via: String.Format({0:c},amount) This produces the string "$28.28" However, when I try to convert back to a decimal amount, I get an incorrect format exception: amount = Decimal.Parse(amount.Text, NumberStyles.Currency) I also tried it with NumberStyles.AllowCurrencySymbol with the same results. I verified that the value in amount.Text is "$28.28". Am I missing something? Shouldn't these two operations use the same currency symbol and formats?

I also built a form with a input box for the alphabetic information and an output box with the Morse Code. What i am trying to do is basically type a word like "Hi" in the input box and produce the Morse Code equivalent in the Morse Code output box. [Code] This works but only one letter at a time. Do i need to Parse the string of characters one at a time, and then run it through a loop like i have created?

I want to take a string from a text box and split each letter of the string into an array. Then, I want to take the first item in the array(the first letter of the string)and capitalize it. Once I've done all that, I want to combine the array and convert it back to the original string it was, except I want the first letter to be capitalized(I've already placed this into a variable.)
