View 2 RepliesI'm wondering how do I get a version of an external executable when Launcher_Load, then after version is found I want it to Label1.Text = "[version]"I've tried searching through websites and from codes I found it didn't manage to do the job.
View 2 RepliesI have a XML file with the latest application version number, I have this loaded into a variable, how can i compare this against the application.info.version to see if it's the latest version??
View 3 RepliesIt appears that the executable application I created can only be run on a computer with .net 4. How can I compile/create the executable to run on a computer with .net 2?
View 3 RepliesMy question is im rebuilding an app i made years ago but i want to add the auto update i have the file downloader down to a T but i dont wanna use the Click once auto-update So i want to read a text file from a online server and then check if the version info inside matches the my.setting.build string inside my application if it doesnt it opens theupdate.exe the that dose what i have it programmed to to
View 3 RepliesI would like to build a text string that is the build version of my program. In VB6 I would use the values retrieved from App.Version.Major/Minor. I have looked for something similar in VS2010 VB but unable to find it. I did find information on the .NET framework, but I am looking for a build version of my program.
View 3 RepliesI am developing an application that will run with a GUI when no commandline args are passed, but can also run invisibly if started from the commandline and passed necessary arguments. I have been asked to include a /version argument that will return a version number. For simplicity this version number can be stored in a variable. Without doing something like writing the version number out to a file, what is the best way for me to return this info to the caller? My app will almost always be started from a script, so the script will have to read the version number and make decisons based on the version.
View 2 RepliesWe're using team build with AssemblyInfoTask to increment the build number in a nightly build. The build number is displayed in the application using My.Application.Info.Version.Build.This has been working fine for years. But since we branched the sources and started using file references instead of project references (have no idea if that's what causes the problem), the last build number is displayed instead of the current one.
The compiled files (dll's and exe's) have the correct build number, if checked by right clicking the file in Explorer and viewing detailed properties. However when the same exe-file is executed, the UI displays the previous build number. If I edit the AssemblyInfo.vb file manually (just set another number, save the file, and set it back again), both file properties in Explorer and the UI at runtime displays the correct build number. How can this happen? What can be done to avoid this strange behavior?
I was wondering if it is possible to have persistent changes to resources in an executable. I am using VB 2010. I don't know how to be much clearer than that but I will try.
> User opens program and picks 'File A'
> 'File A' is now copied into the executable, thus storing it forever (or until deletion of .exe
> .exe is now slightly larger because 'File A' is inside the program
> User can extract or delete 'File A'
How do you change the build executable image for your program? Right now mine looks like a blank form. I would like to add a custom image.
View 2 RepliesI want to add version info to my mobile device exe fileand apparently the following line is not supported in CF (windows mobile 6.0), ideas?:<Assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("1.0.0.0")>I want to be able to to right-click on the .exe after it is copied over to the PC and have the version displayed in a version tab just like any other .exe. I would then be able to read this version in code from a VB6 program.
View 1 RepliesThe version in the Publish page of the project properties is set to 1.4.0.1, but My.Application.Info.Version.ToString returns "1.0.0.0"
View 7 RepliesHow they relate and differ from each? What are the best practices for version control? Is there a primer about publish online? Or a good book?
And is it possible to make ClickOnce and a msi in one solution of VS 2008? If so, is there any conflict or pitfall?
BTW I am using VB if that makes any difference.
I have a program that outputs a file. I want the user to be able to just double-click the output file and launch the program, just like Word and Excel. In Word for instance, one doesn't necessarily have to open WORD then click on File--> Open and locate another Word doc. He can just go to the folder and open the Word doc. I want to implement the exact scenario in my program.
So far I have tried creating TextFile and added it to the Resources. On FormLoading, I simply I stream-read the Resouce file, but I can't write to the Resource on FormClosing, since the Resource is ReadOnly. Also, the Resource is built & compiled so I suppose you can't add anything to it at run time. How you lunch an output file without launching the Executable program that created it?
I have an executable that I was able to get working on all XP machines by registering all the .dll's associated with it.On Vista, however, I go through the exact same registration process but right when I open the executable it goes to a "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working" dialog. I registered the DLLs in the SysWOW64 folder. I also ran Dependency Walker which came up with IEFrame.dll as flagged, don't know if that is relevant though.

View 9 RepliesThis is probably an easy question: I need to change my version number from 5.4 to 5.5. This is not the assembly version, but the version (I think) of my executable.

Its creating problem for me as the setup used to deploy the application at client side does not replace the dll if the version is same as before. I want to change the version of the interop dll (created using vb6 dll). I read it cam done using tlbIMP but how to create tlb file for vb6 dll.
View 2 RepliesI wrote a programme and sent it to my client, (it was not a deployment or install file - just the .exe). He responded that it would not run and the PC reported "this program requires Net Framework 2.0". He cannot update the PC in question with Net Framework 2.0. So my question is can i somehow change my program to use an earlier version of Net Framework?

I am attempting to write a program in Visual Basic Express 2010 that uses .NET Framework version 3.5 instead of 4. (The computers that I plan to use this program on only have .NET 3.5 SP1, and are painfully slow, so I don't want to upgrade them to .NET 4.)I have seen in the documentation that the Express edition does not have the option to change the target framework in the "New Project" dialog. However, when I go to the Project Properties window, there is not a drop-down list for the target framework, either. Can I change the target framework version in Visual Basic Express 2010?
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create a 'trial version' for a software of mine, currently it is pay-only. Basically the most efficient way I can think of is to simply change the startup form of the trial version after 15 days. The new startup form will simply be a request to register.
-How can I change the startup form after 15 days?
-How can I ensure that this cannot be changed afterwards (so it isn't easily pirated).

I have successfully converted the FullCalendar into asp.net / VB and it works perfectly. I am struggling to change the background colour of an event based on a SQL query. I have tried many of the links on StackOverflow and on the Full Calendar Docs [URL] but I have barely any knowledge of jQuery/Javascript so this is proving very difficult for me.I have 5 Employees and I would like each of them to have a unique colour on the Calendar. In my SQL table there is a SalesPersonID field for each employee. I want to change the colour based on the ID. e.g.: (I know this will not work in this scenario, it is purely for info)
If "SalesPersonID" = "1" Then
cevent.className = "Steve"
ElseIf "SalesPersonID" = "2" Then
