Change Datasource For Dataset?

I have a vb.net window application project that connect to Access database.
I use dataset for all Forms and Reports.
Now I would like to change back end from Access database to SQL Server 2000 database.
I change the connection string(Data source, Data Provider etc)to connect to SQL Server 2000.
But it is not convenience bcos Dataset Designer codes are still connect with OLEDB Provider instead of Sql Client Provider.
So I can't do my application with SQL Server database.

I made an application that was used by one person only, but now my boss told me that this application it'll be used by all company.I made the application with a dataset that have the datasource in a access database that's installed with the application. The user can add, delete and change values in the database, so i had to put the database in a sql server to everyone see the changes.There's someway to change the dataset datasource/connection string?

my question is, is there a way to filter records in the dataset and use that records to fill in the datagridview? for example, a datatable (with 3 columns: ID, StudentName, Gender) is filled with list of students. i have two datagrids in the form namely DatagridView1 and Datagridview2. DatagridView1 is where the the list of student where Gender is equal to M and DatagridView2 is where the the list of student where Gender is equal to F.in my current solution, i am using a loop.

Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition.I have a have a DataSet, created from (part of a) Access database. I have tow tables in it (say A and B). When I change something in table A, I need to get data from table B to complete table A.My approach was to use the RowChanged event inside a (Partial) Class of table A. For that to work however table B needs to be shared. (I don't like to refer to an instance.) I got it to work by changing the DataSets designer code, but don't want to do it all over again when the code is regenerated for some reason. So: would there be any way to have these tables shared by default?

When I try to change the datasource of my DataGridView, I am loosing the order of the columns and their type(checkboxes,comboboxes) that i specified on designtime! It's like changing the datasource is generating again the datagridview, why ? and How can I change the datasource without losing these information ? on form load i do something like

I have a vb.net project. I have used the GUI and wizard to create a DataSource pointing to a SQL Server Stored Procedure. It works great! However, a new column has been added to the stored procedure.In the GUI if I right click the data source name and refresh, nothing happens.If I right click the stored procedure name and refresh, nothing happens.If I preview data I can see the new column returned.If I choose edit with wizard there is a red exclamation point next to the name of the stored procedure and red X be each column name.
When I hover over the field name it says "Column ABC in the DataSet references a column missing from the Database".When I hover over the stored procedure it says "STORED_PROCEDURE is mapped to STORED_PROCEDURE in the DataSet. Element STORED_PROCEDURE in the DataSet contains columns that do not exist in the Database".I can't figure out how to get the new columnd in the dataset.

Let me try to describe my problems in the simplest way: I have combobox1 and combobox2. I hope to achieve two things: Combox1 is bound to list1 (a list of string). When a user selects an item in list1, list2 (a list of string) will be obtained from database and combobox is bound to list2.If user specifies text1 in combobox1 and text2 in combobox2, then these two values will be shown in the comboboxes regardless of the bound lists.

So the results of above code is that goal 1 is achieved, but goal 2 is never achieved. combobox1.selected index is always 0 and combobox2.selected index is always 0 too.

Ok, so I've got this Visual Studio 2008 Project I was working with about a year ago perhaps. And this project had a datagrid that was linked to an external database running on a server off the internet. Now, this databinding was all done using Visual Studio 2008's built in features. But how can I now change the binding to a different server, without destroying the project? I've noticed that a lot of the code that Visual Studio creates makes a mess. So manually trying to change the datasource has allways f*cked up the whole project for me.
I'm not all that good with this stuff, that's why I used the built in features of Visual Studio. But I noticed that several things appear, like a binding source, and a dataset. Is it possible to do this? Perhaps even better, making these settings be controlled after the program has been compiled. The way it is now, it's all hard coded after compiling, and that kinda sucks. I remember trying to do this about a year ago, trying to bind these settings to variables stored in settings. But I never got that to work. Just throwing around ideas here

I am using Visual studio 2008 trial edition and SQL server to make a VB.NET app. I have a windows form which i use to add information to a database, by using a dataset. I recently increased the precision of a column using SQL server manager. I went from numeric(8, 4) to numeric(10, 6). I have my datatable's column set to system.decimal with a maxlength of -1. The problem is when i try and add a row using my program, the column now truncates the values as if it was still set to numeric(8, 4). I have checked my controls to make sure they are not truncating. I am currently creating a row and filling it with values and then adding it to the dataset and then updating the dataset. When i look at the locals during run time the row has the correct truncated value before and after i add it to the dataset but the truncated value is getting added to the database. I have tried manual entering data that is to large for the numeric(8, 4) and the database excepts it. It seem like the dataset does not realize the database has changed.

I am using VB 2008 frountend & Access Databases for my backend.When i make changes to Database such as Change In Field Name, Change In Data Type, Change In field size Addition of new Fields, Deletion of old fields, ReOrdering fields names I use to reconfigure DataAdapter in dataset to take those changes in effect, however some changes took place where some other doesn't.get those changes in effect in right order.

I built my programs in VB 2010 using a temporary dataset on my computer.I am not ready to have them address the dataset on the server, but when I call up the dataset to change the path, the full path is light gray and I can not change it.If I delete the dataset, it will ruin all of the forms that automatically populate from the dataset. Is there an easy way to change the full path of a dataset?

I have a table in my database that the fields of it are not fixed in number and name. in fact this table is the statistical report of other sections of my database.I want show this table in a data Grid View after finish calculation. I created a dataset and connected it to my Data Grid but the number of columns and names of them are not flexible and don't change according new statistical reports that would be available in my table.Is there any way to update my dataset and recreate it according to my new information in my table and show it correctly with Data Grid?

I have a dataset that I created through the wizard, to pull the data and their types from the database tables and prevent some of the headaches of creating the tables and data types individually.I am looking for where the database connection for the dataset is defined at so I can change this. The reason being is I have added a database connection dialog where the user will select the location of the database server and I am wanting to pass the connection string from what the user selects to the dataset so the dataset uses this as its connection string instead of the default one I defined in the wizard.Where is this defined at so I can change it?

I'm wondering if its possible to change the query that grabs the data from the dataset at runtime, in order to produce a report based on different criteria.My project doesnt use dataset, and I've had to make one purely for the reports I'm currently using the mySQL .net connector calling everything via code, as well as the query I want to make at the time.Also, I don't want the report to be embedded in the application but be a seperate file as the report may change frequently (the layout of it)I've tried setting the build action as none, but I just get an error in the intermediate window.

The way the code is suppose to work is that when a user logs in, the application gets the user's site ID (gvUserSite), then uses that to set the connection string. But when I log on with a SiteID of "21" it always uses the Case Else value. Also when I set breakpoints in settings.vb the application never stops on the breakpoints I set during runtime. As if the breakpoints were never set. Also if I put any code in the "MySettings_SettingChanging" in settings.vb I get a runtime error
