In my application, I have a dataset, automatically created by the VB, called "Batabase1Dataset".This dataset, will "connect" to the file Database1. sdf in the directory of my solution..Is some moment of the program, I need the dataset will read the data from the file "c;estdatabase1.sdf", instead the file: "....MyAppdatabase1.sdf"..How can I change the path of the dataset reading?
View 3 RepliesI built my programs in VB 2010 using a temporary dataset on my computer.I am not ready to have them address the dataset on the server, but when I call up the dataset to change the path, the full path is light gray and I can not change it.If I delete the dataset, it will ruin all of the forms that automatically populate from the dataset. Is there an easy way to change the full path of a dataset?
View 9 RepliesI have a dataset that I created through the wizard, to pull the data and their types from the database tables and prevent some of the headaches of creating the tables and data types individually.I am looking for where the database connection for the dataset is defined at so I can change this. The reason being is I have added a database connection dialog where the user will select the location of the database server and I am wanting to pass the connection string from what the user selects to the dataset so the dataset uses this as its connection string instead of the default one I defined in the wizard.Where is this defined at so I can change it?
View 6 RepliesWe have upgraded our project from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010 without any issues until now. Our project contains a folder call Libraries which contains different versions of Oracle ODP.NET DLL's as well as different versions of Telerik DLL's. Our project contains references to one of the versions of each. The problem is once we remove the reference and re-add it by browsing to the new version, again inside the Libraries folder inside the project, it adds the reference, but to the same version we just removed. We can even copy the DLL to our desktop, remove the reference and add to the new one on our desktop and it still will point to the Libraries folder version???. The only we we can actual change the reference to the new DLL is by manually changing the path in the .vbproj file, which is obviously not going to work for us. The same behaviour worked perfectly in VS 2008. We switch our references quite often, when new versions come out, but also far more often to QA different versions of ODP.NET and Telerik Control DLL's, so manually editing the .vbproj file is becoming quickly cumbersome. If I browse to a specific version at a specific path, Visual Studio should ALWAYS do what I'm telling it to do..
I did some seaching and came across a few other people with the same issue. This better not be as designed and if it's a bug, which I believe it to be, when will it be fixed?[URL]..
Update problem : When i check DataSet.HasChanges() it return false, unless position change (move next or previews) it return True.
After position changes every things is OK and updated!!

I have to read dataset in javascript. So that I have to bind Study_Desc in DropDownList.
- Below code is in the LOAD form event.
- Within TMEMBERS table there is a TOTAMT field.
- Question is: What is the code to read TOTAMT field as I need to do some calculations as part of the LOAD event in this form. Not sure how as this was generated by the dataset wizard and not the tipical Dataset manual definitions.

My application uses a badly arranged Excel spreadsheet as a data source. I say badly designed because there's no unique identifier to each row aside from the column where dates and times are found. My app uses the date and time on each row as an identifier to retrieve information from the other columns in the row. The idea is that the user will select a date/time from a ListBox at which time, the app will loop through the DataSet and find the date/time in the right column and display the rest of the info in that row. My issue is that the ListBox control isn't being populated and I can't see why...

This basically works on a search where the user will specify a term to search for (be it a telephone number or (in this case) a telephone extension) and a date range. Now, I know for a fact that the spreadsheet (and thus, the DataSet) has information where the date column - column index 2 - falls within the date range I'm specifying and the column after that contains my search term, but I'm not getting any results.

In this case it's one field and will always be one field.. I am filling a variable with that query.. however instead of the fields returned I need the actual data.

I'm working on my first web service and I'm having a blast doing it. I've got a client that talks to the web service installed on a test server. I'm ready to release the code and I realized that when I created the web reference I gave it a path to the web service. I do not want to hardcode this in my program, so I'm looking for a way to dynamically change the path to the web serivce.
What I've done is --
1. Create a web reference to the Web Service:[URL]
2. Built my client using this web reference
3. ... not sure where to go from here.
Basically, I want to stash a value in the app.config file and, on load, use this URL as the web service. Can someone point me in the right direction? There has to be a property I can modify at run time to point it to a some location.

I am using Visual studio 2008 trial edition and SQL server to make a VB.NET app. I have a windows form which i use to add information to a database, by using a dataset. I recently increased the precision of a column using SQL server manager. I went from numeric(8, 4) to numeric(10, 6). I have my datatable's column set to system.decimal with a maxlength of -1. The problem is when i try and add a row using my program, the column now truncates the values as if it was still set to numeric(8, 4). I have checked my controls to make sure they are not truncating. I am currently creating a row and filling it with values and then adding it to the dataset and then updating the dataset. When i look at the locals during run time the row has the correct truncated value before and after i add it to the dataset but the truncated value is getting added to the database. I have tried manual entering data that is to large for the numeric(8, 4) and the database excepts it. It seem like the dataset does not realize the database has changed.
